7/8/2012 - Twin-30s (11 karts)And now rule the galaxy... as FATHER AND SON! Tim and Justin Galletta win the Twin-30s on 7/8/2012 at Galletta's Greenhouse Backyard Karting Raceway!SUNDAY, JULY 8th, 2012: Father and son – Tim and Justin Galletta – took the eleven-competitor twin-30 features at Galletta’s, finally breaking their cousin Matt’s furious streak of FOUR straight wins to open the 2012 season. It was Tim’s seventh feature win in his four year career, while his son Justin secured his second feature win in just his second season. And both look stronger and stronger with each race. Here is the story….

HEAT 1:

Again, heat races serve as warm-ups that count for bonus points, and have no effect on the starting lineup of the feature race, although they do provide a sneak preview as to who is running good while giving time to those who need to wrk a bit more. The handicap starting lineup of the feature is split into two and we race.

START:
Pos. | Driver (Karts driven)

  1. William Ruggio (Ruggio #02) {NR}
  2. Eric Woolworth (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2) {NR}
  3. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
  4. Brian Galletta (Platt-itude #287)
  5. Tim Galletta (T-Galletta #54)
  6. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33) [4 Wins]

    {NR} = Newbie; Inexperienced Rookie

Heat action!

Justin Galletta looked like a man on a mission as he took heat one, always difficult to do when Matt is in your heat!

FINISH:
Pos. | Driver (Karts driven)

  1. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
  2. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33) [4 Wins]
  3. Brian Galletta (Platt-itude #287)
  4. Tim Galletta (T-Galletta #54)
  5. Eric Woolworth (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2) {NR}
  6. William Ruggio (Ruggio #02) {NR}

    {NR} = Newbie; Inexperienced Rookie

HEAT 2:

START:
Pos. | Driver (Karts driven)

  1. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c) {NR}
  2. David Spanfelner (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9) {NR}
  3. Joe Sereno (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
  4. Melissa Stevens (Scissors N Fur #19)
  5. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #4) {NR} = Newbie; Inexperienced Rookie

Our heats are bigger than the average local pay track. Yeah, they brag about 50-70 karts overall, but that's the total between several divisions based on age, weight, and motor. In the end, we have bigger races, and more drivers on track.

Heat two saw Joe Sereno come back after a stall to beat Chris Stevens to the front for the win via boxing him in on the Galletta’s #9. A very funny closeup of Adam Lytle’s right front tire coming off (and thde said tire being run over) is on camera (buy a DVD or watch it on YouTube).

FINISH:
Pos. | Driver (Karts driven)

  1. Joe Sereno (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
  2. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #4)

  19. Open kart (SNF #80 – reserved for Melissa’s backup)
  20. Open kart (Platt-num #187 – not ready to race; blown motor)

    {NR} = Newbie; Inexperienced Rookie

Per usual with the Twin-30s, the first feature is lined up via the Galletta’s traditional handicap start (inverted by wins and points-per-event)!

11 karts. And room for more. Yep, this ain't a kiddie-kartway with 2-5 kart kiddie, teens, and senior classes.

Billy Ruggio got out to a wicked fast start, pulling away from the pack. Lots of great racing action took place, which you can see via the DVD and/or the YouTube video. And great racing it is… these are open wheel vehicles driven by grown men – no overpriced missionary-position sittin’ bumper karts here, kids.

Chris and Justin race for the lead, while Matt and Joe race for 3rd.

Justin Galletta proved capable of pulling a clean sweep (heat and two features) as he stormed into the lead on lap nine and held off challenges from Chris Stevens for the win. Matt was able to sneak into third by passing Joe Sereno with just a few to go as well. Damn that tricky Matt! No wonder most local kiddie-kart track drivers want nothing to do with him. They don’t want to look bad. 😉

Again Matt does the ol’ “I’ll show you that all my karts are capable of winning” and climbs in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #1. Another comical interlude happened, this time in the feature when Bill Ruggio did a partial spin in the opening stages of the feature, which caused karts to scatter to avoid (well, except Tim wh just plowed through him, haha)!

Funny how Bill Ruggio did his best impression of a ping-pong ball here!

Joe Sereno flew off the track to avoid a prone kart, which would’ve been a third comical scene if not for the fact that neither camera caught it! D’oh!

Close finish after 60 laps. Flatty's, Clones and Champs are for ripped-off pussies.

This is how it went down when the checkered flag dropped. This shows just how close our racing is, folks.
