FALL CHALLENGE TWIN-30s at GALLETTA’S on OCTOBER 12th, 2008:
 photo gallettas20081012kartwinsv2_zps97cbea5a.jpg

The track was perhaps better than it has been all year as the clay took the cool, mildly damp weather well. Tons of grip, and very little breaking up, unlike the Klassic, which saw a loose track that dug up badly in turns 1 and 3 in the first few laps. A case could be made that Gary Miller Sr. deserved to win both features, as he led late in the first (passing Matt, Chris, and Russ), and led all but the final lap in the 2nd. But it wasn’t to be.

The first feature saw Russ Hockey FINALLY get his first feature win by leading most of the event after passing polesitter Larry Phillips for the lead,  re-inheriting the lead after Gary Miller Sr. passed him but retired with a leaking carb in the Galletta’s #0 during a caution. Russ then held off Matt Stevens (in the Galletta’s #2) who barely passed his brother Chris (in the Galletta’s #4) when Russ got sideways in turn 4 with a few laps to go. Following them were Melissa Gabel (#80), Gary Miller Jr. (#24), Larry Phillips (#04), and the only DNF went to  Gary Miller Sr. (#0).

Start of the 10/12/2008 events!

The 2nd feature was an invert of the first feature, and it saw Gary Miller lead the first 29 laps, holding off a hard-charging Melissa Gabel for 28 of them. In fact, Melissa even forced Matt to go to the rear when he pressured her into Gary early on, and Matt accepted the punishment with Gary and Melissa staying in their spots. However, once he got by his big brother on lap 26 (who was trying to hold him off so that Gary and Melissa could duel it out for the lead), Matt Stevens went from 3rd to 1st on the last lap and stole a win from Gary and Melissa. Poor Gary had a strong night leading 34 of the 60 laps and no wins to show for it. Again, once Matt gets by Chris (who held him off for around 50 laps in the two feature), nobody else could hold him off for even a few laps once he got by his big brother. Following Matt were Chris Stevens (#4) who also passed Gary (#0) on the last lap, Melissa Gabel (#80), Russ Hockey (#00), Larry Phillips (#04), and Gary Miller Jr. (#24), DNS. Gary led and scored the most extra-point leader-laps and Chris by far had the most 2nd/3rd-place bonus point laps. Pics later.

Russ Hockey & Matt Stevens win the Twin-30s on 10/12/2008

Now… where are these seven karters on…
THE GALLETTA’S KARTING SPEEDWAY
ALL-TIME POINT STANDINGS?

Two of them moved up a few spots, and one joined the ranks of the Feature Winner’s Club!

Also, though we have already announced it earlier, we wanted to reiterate it here that in 2009, the Galletta’s Kart Club will re-institute a mandatory minimum weight (yet to be determined) and possibly fixed gearing to go with the pre-existing 5hp flathead rules in 2008. By using the weight rule, we have also re-enforces our ban on 6.5hp-masked Gas Animal motors from our competition as well, which is the only way we can institute a weight rule (and the only reason why we didn’t institute one in the past couple of seasons like we wanted to). Also, if you are a gas stocker driver that races at Oswego Kartway with us, then please fill out a driver profile at the Oswego Kartway Driver Profile page on the Oswego Kartway website! Or, tell me and I’ll fill it out for you. Thanks! Also, again, check out the Oswego Kartway track records to see that affordable “gas stockers” AKA “Racing yard karts” can reach speeds close to expensive WKA methanol karts on Oswego Kartway for a small fraction of the cost. The problem, however, is that it appears that our class may no longer welcome there, as management wants to only allow us on the track if we race against gas OHV “Animal” (6.5hp-appearing) motors, which not one active member of our racing club will do, as racing them forever altered our “box stock 5hp” rules that we had from 1990-2004, in addition to forcing us to not use weights and try to go lighter in order to combat their obvious horsepower advantage.   This will stop the crybaby sore-loser whiners who cry “Waa, waa, I’ll only race if you let me have a bigger motor, waa, waa! Jimmy make them race with us, waa, waa!” We will not race on any track that discriminates against our class rules and meddles with our established and thriving karting club. We are sick of people who do not support or race at our track changing our rules multiple times between 2004-2008 (when we had all box stock 5hp motors and a general weight rule between 1990-2004 before they got involved) because they have friends who don’t have anybody to race against, THEN make a box stock class after forcing us AWAY from our original intent of box stock. Thanks a lot, tyrants. >:(

Welcome! We are a Karting Club that invented and races extremely affordable 5hp, Single Wheel Drive “Gas stocker” karts for a Points championship every summer at Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway and a Gas Stocker division at Oswego Speedway‘s Clay Kartway. We also record weekly dirt karting classes in the Oswego area and make them available on DVD! Join us racing by either building your own or renting one of our team backup karts. Our "Away" track: Oswego Kartway!

The Galletta’s Go-Karting Club was founded by brothers Matt and Chris Stevens in the early 1990ss when they modified yard karts for racing purposes. They are the inventors of “clockwise 5hp flathead gas stocker kart” racing, and have a 13-kart race team that includes several backup karts available to be rented and raced at both Galletta’s and Oswego Speedway all summer. Invented with specifically “gas stock 5hp motor” rules so that a person doesn’t have to spend thousands of dollars to race in extremely competitive racing events, the class grows in talent and competition every single year. Join us by building your own kart for around $500 or rent one of our team karts on Summer Thursdays or Summer Sundays in Oswego, NY!

The Oswego Gas Stocker Kart Club races at Galletta’s Greenhouse Kartway & Oswego SpeedwayKartway.

Due to the fact that the karts are so affordable and the oldest veterans have been racing for nearly two decades, it is one of the most difficult karting divisions to win at, but yet you can be instantly competitive for just a couple hundred dollars IF you’re a good driver. You can’t outspend your opponent due to our gas-powered stock-only rule, so you must out-race them and out-setup them. In fact, nobody has ever defeated Matt & Chris in the open challenge: race a stock 5hp flathead and stop them from scoring 1st & 2nd in a points season. Though hundreds of people have tried in hundreds of races since the early 1990s, Chris and Matt have scored 1 & 2 every year. But it’s not just them you have to race. Our regular drivers are all talented and experienced. You can prove your skills against the winningest karters in the local area AND you won’t even have to spend a lot of money to get started! We dare you to try! Make your own or rent one of our racing team karts. Sound like fun? Read on, explore the website, and join us!

Galletta’s is a backyard karting track that does not charge anybody to watch or race (though we ask for clay donations). If you want to rent a fast Galletta’s 5hp Gas Stocker Kart on Oswego’s dirt karting tracks, then inquire! There’s always at least one or more karts open and waiting to be raced! Bring your own 5hp gas stocker kart or rent one of ours and join us! We usually run 8-12 kart races weekly, but we’d love to have more on both tracks that we race at, so we ask for more people joining us. Experienced drivers or beginners? It doesn’t matter, you can race! Interested? Call us up! Plus, everybody is getting tuned up for the Oswego Speedway Classic weekend at Oswego Kartway. Did you ever think that you could be racing at the famed Speedway on Classic weekend? You can, and for VERY affordably. Rent one of our karts for $20 a week (averaging around 100-130 laps of action on two different Oswego tracks), or we’ll help you buy or create your own for just a few hundred dollars. Call us up or email us and find out more details.

5hp gas stocker race at Galletta's Speedway on 7/18/2008.Want to join us? We invite drivers (either people to rent our karts and/or with their own 5hp karts) to join us and race at Oswego and Galletta’s. We have our own motor class at Oswego now, but still need regular drivers to fill the karts.  If anybody is interested in filling a kart on Thursdays at Oswego ($5 to rent for 10 lap heats and at least a 25 lap feature plus Oswego track entrance fees) or Sundays at Galletta’s ($20 for a 10 lap heat and at least 45-lap feature), just contact us. At Galletta’s, it is free to bring your own kart (though we accept $3-5 clay donations). NEW SPECIAL DEAL: If you rent a Galletta’s racing kart for $20 at Galletta’s on a weekend race (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday), then you can also drive it at Oswego the same week (a Thursday or Friday) for free (just help us load up or truck the kart)! Why allow someone to race our karts for free at Oswego? Because we are seeking new drivers on BOTH tracks after a transitional period of some retiring veteran drivers, some drivers jumping to different (more expensive) divisions, and lack of new developing rookies, and Oswego already has a entrance fee to consider anyway. We want more drivers, and we’ll cover your gas if you race with us at Galletta’s on Sundays. You will not ever get the opportunity to sit in a racing vehicle of any type and be given a competitive car for a more affordable price than a Galletta’s 5hp race. Go ahead and try your own for anything less.  Now the season recaps…
