SUNDAY,AUGUST 4th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY –  The “Mr. Oswego Karting 10,000-Rocks-To-Win” 45-Lapper was utterly dominated by Mr. David Spanfelner in the D.S. Humphrey’s #54! Dave blasted from 4th to 1st at the drop of the green flag and held off countless pass attempts from point-leaders Matt and Chris Stevens and avoiding a wreck involving lapped traffic in front of him en route to leading all 45-laps for his most dominant win – a perfect sweep of a heat win and leading every lap of a feature. More to come very, very soon, so come back later!

RETCON MAKEUP POINT EARNINGS:
We had two first-timer rookies racing this week, although one of the newbies had prior karting and dirt racing experience, and scored points in a hot laps session before the heats. A legendary old veteran returned as well – Jason Mills also showed up late and took some hot laps before the feature event and was also credited points. Brian Galletta earned makeup points in the heat, although he was unable to complete the race.

1st. Ed Lawton (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1, 6) – earned 20th in 6/5/2013’s 45-Lapper
2nd. David Turner (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2) – earned 21st in 6/5/2013’s 45-Lapper
3rd. Jason Mills (Galletta’s Greenhouse #0)  – earned 22nd in 6/5/2013’s 45-Lapper
4th. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta/Plattitude/Platt-num #42) – earned 11th in 7/21/2013’s 45-Lapper

Adam Lytle got blown by at the restart by both Dave Spanfelner and Chris Stevens. And 8 laps later, that was how they finished. 1st-timer rookie Dave Turner also looked smooth out there, and with more races under his belt, he should be highly competitive.

Finish:
1st. Dave Spanfelner (DS Humphrey’s #54)
2nd. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #8)
3rd. Adam Lytle (Lytle Racing #33c)

HEAT TWO

WHA?! Who on earth is that bending over Brian Galletta?! With pasty white legs and harshly tanned arms?! Holy smokes, it’s the long lost Plattitude/Plattnum kart chassis builder / multi-time feature-winning driver known as “The Bobandinator” – Randy “Bobandi” Platt! Completing his 3rd or 4th or 5th creation, the Brian Galletta #42! But, sadly, Ran the man refused to race (he has not raced since the 2012 Klassic, which hurts all of Ran’s fellow drivers, who love racing him – he’s not just another kart on the track, but a very good driver at that – one of our best vets! And with all the work he does to the karts, he definitely earned a if not a free, at least a reduced rental, but he declined it) and just tinkered with the kart, being Brian’s personal pit crew.  (Also, the helmet cam malfunctioned this week, and the above snapshot is basically all we got out of it this week. Sad, because Matt would’ve caught an amazing wreck on it in the feature. See below.)

Start:
1st. Billy Truax (Truax Racing #02)
2nd. Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #78)
3rd. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta/Plattitude/Platt-num #42)
4th. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
5th. Ed Lawton (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
6th. Melissa Stevens – w/Lilybeth Stevens (Scissors ‘n Fur #19)

Of course, with any new kart, bugs are to be worked out, and Brian could not complete the race – a slipped throttle cable and a bent sprocket asked him for the evening. The Ran left, as secretly, quietly and mysteriously as he has been all season thus far.  What’s up, Boban? We miss you, get your butt in a kart and roll! 1st-timer Rookie Ed Lawton looked good out there for his 1st race, but usually drivers with prior experience in other forms of racing do pick it up quicker.

Finish:
1st. Billy Truax (Truax Racing #02)
2nd. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
3rd. Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #78)
4th. Ed Lawton (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
5th. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta/Plattitude/Platt-num #42) [Did Not Finish]
6th. Melissa Stevens – w/Lilybeth Stevens (Scissors ‘n Fur #19) [Did Not Finish]

Dave Spanfelner must’ve been paying attention to Chris and Matt, who have been absolutely dominating on the initial race starts. Dave did it so, and as soon as the green flew, Dave had passed 3 karts and stormed into the lead. Chris and Matt also stormed into 2nd and 3rd and resumed their 20-year karting battle (30-year battle if you count the pedal karts) behind Dave.

Th D.S. Humphrey’s #54 was storming around the track, and Matt and Chris passed each other  a couple times behind him. The rest of the field simply could not keep up.

The new clay in turn 1 broke up a bit during the feature, and forced the action inside a bit, as the outside was very loose. Here is another shot of the three leaders and you can see them going lower than they usually do, and although there were some decent battles behind them, these three put on a clinic of exciting, competitive, and fun racing.

The night was nearly accident free. Nearly. On lap 44, the leaders came upon the two rookies and it got a bit crazy. Leader Dave Spanfelner ran into traffic. LITERALLY, he ran into Ed Lawton, who actually got airborne when he then hit Dave Turner in front of him. Dave got spun around and Chris banged up  the #8’s drive wheel on the front bumper of the #2, but all parties kept going without a hitch. It is an entertaining video, but a little dangerous and we’ll have to let drivers know not to plow people out of the way, especially in turn 1. Thank God it wasn’t worse than a busted rim (on the #8) and maybe some scrapes and bruises.

A little video snippet of the crash (Camera by Rungnapha “Aou” Stevens):

Edit: Errrrrr, so… ladies and gentlemen… PHOTOBUCKET. SUCKS. ASS. They are supposed to be a free photo & video hosting site (free with ads, pay for ad-less, I get it…), but then, after using it — for over 10 years without a hitch — they extort your pictures and videos, hinder your ability to upload or post them, AND prevent you from using them on an external site (your own website or blog for example) unless you pay much-higher-than-standard-internet-hosting. After a viral internet backlash, they let users use them again… just with watermarks. Fine. I get it. But not the videos? Apparently, they’re gone and you can never use them again. How does YouTube do it, then? I tell you how they don’t lose customers — THEY DON’T TREAT THEIR USERS LIKE THIS! Thanks for pissing millions of people off, Photobucket. Anyways, I digress…

Let’s try this again, this time via YouTube, which while not perfect, at least allow you post stuff forever (as long as it isn’t what they deem controversial to their PC-based ideology… bad in its own right, but nothing controversial about backyard karting videos, so we should be safe!):

Dave wanted that win… AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!! 😀 😉 😀

Meanwhile… on the restart, 4th-place Adam Lytle pulled off with seemingly no issue (?), and lost himself four spots! Even with a kart with poor handling, finishing the lap would’ve netted him a lot more points.

Finish:
