After a 20-month hiatus (two offseasons and all of last season), Galletta’s Backyard Karting Speedway was back to racing for our 26th Points Racing Season (out of 27 years). It appears that we didn’t get a 200 in due to a startling lack of regular drivers, but we still got a bunch of excellent races in when a limited number of drivers did show! Enjoy! Below is that season thus far:

Week #18: Saturday, November 5th, 2022 – LAST CALL for Our ’22 Klassic 200? Nah, Twin 20s! [+YouTube]

Saturday, November 5th, 2022 – Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting 2022 Season Week #17: Another weekend and another mixed bag of the good and the bad. The bad was this was yet another disappointing weekend continuing our unfortunately sparsely populated 2022 season where only a single race event had a full show. This also was the 8th weekend in a row where we could not gather enough guest drivers to race the Klassic 200 DESPITE having great weather and an early start time (afternoons have been open every weekend, and most drivers complain of our late starts, then never show when all is ready to roll in the 1-4pm range!). And although this weekend came the closest, a handful of vets bailed on race day. The good news is we had a returning veteran racer and two newcomer guests – an SBS driver and his brother. And other than we didn’t have enough drivers, the racing didn’t disappoint! View the complete race in HD from 4 Camera Angles & Updated Points Here!

Week #17: Saturday, October 29th, 2022 – Postponed (Not Enough Drivers + Halloween Festivities).

Week #16: Saturday 2022/10/22 – ANOTHER Pre-Klassic Tune-Up Twin 20s! [+YouTube]

Despite an unseasonably warm, beautifully sunny, and PERFECT Fall day for racing, due to a lack of drivers available in the early afternoon (2?!), our 26th Klassic 200 got delayed… AGAIN! We’ll try again for the 200 on the 1st Saturday in November… IF the weather cooperates. Next time… with or without enough drivers or else face the 2nd straight year without our 200-Lap Point Finale Championship race. More info here.

Week #15: Saturday 2022/10/15 – Pre-Klassic Tune-Up – “The Return of The Reuter” 25-Lapper [+YouTube]

Saturday, October 15th, 2022 – In our struggle to get both the weather (seasonably unpredictable as we go on in the Fall) and driver attendance (work conflicts, scheduling issues, people getting sick, people just getting sick of it, etc.) to align to have our Klassic, we didn’t want to waste yet ANOTHER pretty nice Saturday. We just don’t know how many we have left in 2022 and we lost most of our race dates all Summer to extremely poor driver attendance. So we held a small, but action-packed Pre-Klassic Tune-Up 25-Lapper, with one of the top guest drivers in GKC history, Kyle Reuter. And as the picture above shows, Kyle didn’t have much rust to shake off for his 1st race at Galletta’s in years… View 3 Camera Angles HERE!

Week #11: Saturday, September 17th, 2022 – Postponed (Not Enough Drivers).

Week #10: Saturday, September 10th, 2022 – “Snooze-U-Lose Bonus Points” Race! [YouTube]

Saturday, September 10th, 2022 – As one can see scrolling through this season’s schedule so far, we have only had 4 race events out of the last 10 weekends since the ’22 GKC Season kicked off. Why? No other reason than we have had a hard time getting enough racers to meet the minimum requirements to have a race. It used to be 12, 10, 8 drivers, and hell, we even dropped it to 5 or 6 drivers! But 4? That’s just 1 visiting guest driver! That’s like how we ran in the 1990s when it all began with two brothers and maybe their dad or a friend or cousin over! Since we were running out of weekends to race and the track was watered, we went ahead and ran a 3-kart race (a 4th started and dropped out after a lap). It’ll be for bonus points and not a full-fledged feature (although after the season’s end, we may flip it into one if we flat out don’t get very many more races — something we had to do in 2014 and 2018, the last two times that we had this much trouble getting enough drivers to have weekly races). Here are 3 camera views of the action in the above playlist and this page!

Week #9: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, September 2nd-4th, 2022

Race Postponed [Not Enough Drivers + Labor Day Festivities]

Week #8: Saturday, August 27th, 2022 – Attack of the Crazy In-Law (Again!) Twin 20s Nite!

Oswego, New York – Never a dull moment with the karting. Well, no, actually most of the time it’s pretty straightforward racing (when we get enough people up and start on time), but there’s been one particular crazy lady who has (on and off since around 2010-ish) made for some interesting evenings by blasting us to our karter friends, and lo-and-behold, she was caught red-handed once again trashing us to our friends/relatives/co-workers/bosses/authorities/etc. And boy did those birds fly, along with insults and threats! But when the drama settled down and the race started, we went 40 laps with only a single caution (for a sputtering carb). Pics, videos, and more are available now on this page. In the meantime, points are updated here for your ease in viewing:

Week #3: July 24th, 2022 – Newcomer 15-Lap B-Main & Regular 25 Lap Feature won by Logan Crisafulli and Matt Stevens [+YouTube]

SUNDAY, JULY 24th, 2022, Oswego, New York – We had a packed show with several relative newcomers who raced a 15-Lap B-Main event, and then a few of them joined in with the veterans for the regularly scheduled race. Young Oswego Speedway hot shoe Logan Crisafulli took the B-Main, and then led most of the regular feature after starting in the 2nd row, but that crafty Galletta’s veteran Matt Stevens was able to do what he seems to always do… slip by people to win the 25-Lap 2nd Feature. We had a lot of drivers and a lot of footage to go through! Let’s dig into all those videos here! MORE->

Week #2: July 17th, 2022 – “Okay, No Pool This Time, But I Ran Over That Bunny!” 25 & 20-Lappers!

OSWEGO, NEW YORK – Sunday, July 17th, 2022 – Four features, four different winners! The racing has unfortunately been starting late (we had a nearly 2-year delay, after all, so we’re all out of our groove), but it has been extremely close, competitive, quick, and clean when it finally does start. Nicolas Olivares (in the Galletta’s Racing #1) started on the pole and held off challenges by Chris Stevens (in the Galletta’s Racing #8) for the 25-lap feature win, and Andrew Hook (in the Galletta’s Racing #0) did the same and held off challenges from Matt Stevens (in the Galletta’s Racing #74) to get that monkey off his back and collect his first career feature win in the 20-Lap Feature win. Oh… and…. Um, so that bunny we missed last week. Um… yeah… he didn’t make it. ? R.I.P…. READ MORE->

Week #1: July 10th, 2022 – 26th Annual Season Opener – “Mama, I Ran Over A Pool, and Almost Hit a Bunny, Too!” 25 & 20-Lappers!

OSWEGO, NEW YORK – Sunday, July 10th, 2022 – After a lost season due to problems with Matt’s home and family, karts finally took the track for the 1st time in 22 months for our 26th annual points racing season. Travis Bartlett picked up his 1st regular Galletta’s Summer Point Feature win in his #39 kart (formerly the Platt-Num/Brian & Kevin Galletta #28), while David Hartpence Jr. also picked up his 1st regular Galletta’s Summer Point Feature win in the #2 house kart. Both drivers had won Fall non-point races in the past but had regular point wins elude them until tonight when they both started on the front row and pulled away for the wins! Read more->
