6/23/2012: The Brian Almost Had It 50 60 Lapper?!

SATURDAY, JUNE 23rd, 2012: That gosh darn it all to heck Matty-Joey. Already he is a class above all Oswego area karters (yes, that includes the other tracks) with his experience and win 
totals (racing more years that some local racers have been alive, more years than other tracks have been open, and having more wins than countless of the other leading racers combined have), and many have been hard-earned/"damn-it-he's-good" wins, but he wins some where he just doesn't really deserve them as much as another driver... they just fall into his lap anyway! This was another one. Brian Galletta deserved to win this one. He has raced for years - being one of the original members of the club that his cousins founded - with only one regular feature win to his credit (that happened so long ago--2004--most of us forgot about it, including himself, and a second "All-Galletta" race where it was technically a rookie race where he was the only experienced driver on the track at the time). He had been fast in prior Klassics. And tonight, he led fifty four of the first fifty-six laps, and at times pulled away from the pack. But then here comes Matt. Now keep in mind, Matt hears the rumors that some people actually have the gall to believe that Matt's karts are just better than the rest and he rigs it. When he hears this, he gets pretty peeved off considering that he often spends more money on and more time repairing everyone else's karts (usually they are slow, and he helps speed them up for them! Yes, that's right... he helps speed up his competition!) and often neglects his own (like in the opener, he gassed visitor's karts while his own was not gassed since last year and he ran out of gas in the lead!). So, he likes to prove naysayers wrong and hops into a kart that everyone else says sucks and can't win. Something that Kyle Reuter also has done - and almost did it twice. Then he proceeds to smoke them in said kart. Oops, Matt did it again, and it's far from the first time (we lost track). Here is the tale...
...but first... if you wonder why Brian is flipping Matt off... it's a long story of Matt being a victory hog. But it quite possibly began here.. as Matt was a BALL hog here, pushing poor Brian to the ground like a rag doll! Oh that ruthless bully Matt!!! :
(BTW, the cousins always got along 100% great, but I've noticed that if I do not expressly put that this is HUMOR and NOT serious, some people will read this site, take it literally, and get all Haterade on us. No hyperbole. So, no, Matt and Brian always get along, again... this is HUMOR. SMH...)

Brian Galletta storms by Adam Lytle for the lead on lap two! Shortly after this, Justin Galletta, who started 3rd and looked to be the fastest kart on track last week, dropped to the rear with a sputtering motor. Apparently, the choke lever was accidentally hit during the startup and not noticed until the green flag dropped. This leaves all kinds of room for conspiracy theories to be alleged. Hmmm.... Now, all kidding aside, when inspected, the carb indeed get clogged, and we joke because the last time after someone was wickedfast, then had a carb clog, accused us of a conspiracy and never came back... (waaah waah, amazing his nickname turns so easily from "flyin'" to "cryin'" like Buddy said!)
Brian Galletta was smoking! The field that is! He was pulling away from (2nd) Chris Stevens, (3rd) Tim Galletta and (4th) Matt Stevens. But he then started slowing down once he realized that Chris and Matt (who slipped by Tim - slowed by a leaking head gasket) were starting to challenge him. This set up a tremendous triangle of racing for the lead between three of the original members of the club! Jared Halstead (Tim's brother-in-law from Ohio in only his 3rd feature race - he won his 2nd feature two years ago this week!) even snuck up and challenged the trio in stunning fashion on one occasion, but spun out.
The race was supposed to be 50 laps. Flagger Wesley James Trogre Stevens wound up giving us an addition TEN laps, much like last year's Klassic went more laps than it was supposed to, too. This was basically the battle for most of the time from laps fifteen through fifty-three, with Chris and Matt side-by-side trading places and ducking down under Brian. Brian held them off in exciting, wheel-to-wheel action! This was until a restart on lap fifty-four, when Brian, who knew his #28 was sputtering, started to realize he needed that checkered to fall soon or else the kart was not going to keep the pace needed to hold on to the win, and several times exclaimed "F***!" On that restart, the kart didn't make it... and he dropped to the rear on the backstretch. When this happened, a lot of tire brushing happened on the back stretch and a small pileup happened in turn 4, and Brian's drive tire popped. Chris even lost two spots during the ordeal, and managed to gain them back on a restart, but Matt had the win sealed.
