6/24/2017 – Kevin Galletta & Keith Raymond make it 4-Winners-for-4-Races this season! [+YouTube]

 photo WP_20170624_22_08_47_Kev-Keith-win-800px.jpg

Saturday, June 24th, 2017 – We took another preemptive Saturday race (to avoid rain forecast on Sunday) and held another twin-feature night to get caught up for missing the 1st two weekends of our usual season (1st weekend in June through at least September). And lo-and-behold, the polar opposite of last year’s start has occurred–where Kelly Miller, Matt Stevens and Chris Stevens hogged all the wins in the 1st EIGHT features–we have four features and FOUR different winners! Kevin Galletta outlasted early leader Adam Lytle (who broke down while leading) to win the 1st one, and Keith Raymond outlasted Chris Stevens and Matt Stevens (each of whom ALSO broke down while leading), although Josh Arnold gave him a great run. (And Kevin had to take his kids home before the start of the 2nd feature, so he is represented here by his Force Ghost.) More details and FULL race video (including BOTH Tower camera AND Matt helmet camera in full HD) below:

1st Feature – 35 Laps

 photo 2017-06-24-1st-feature-start.jpg

Adam Lytle leads the field as the green drops! He later would suffer a slipped throttle cable, which took him out of the lead and the event. Adam has been VERY frustrated, finishing precious few races in the last two seasons. Oddly, when he finishes, he’s won quite a few of them, so it’s all about him keeping the kart on the track — to which he has had tremendously bad luck.

Matt Stevens again sported a helmet camera for the event. Full video is above! Passing has been a difficult task thus far in 2017. There’s a few reasons for it: 1) Everyone is an experienced driver, 2) the karts are all EXTREMELY close in speed, and 3) the track has had rough patches which has been breaking a lot of karts down.

 photo 2017-06-24-1st-feature-finish.jpg

After Lytle broke down, Kevin Galletta took it from there to hold off his cousins Chris and Matt Stevens for the win. And look at Josh Arnold there, getting 4th in the Galletta’s #5 after his #93 broke down on lap 1… another good finish will serve him well in the points!

 photo 2017-06-24-2nd-feature-start.jpg

Due to the lateness of the start of the 2nd feature, only four competitors stuck it out: Chris Stevens, Josh Arnold, Matt Stevens and Keith Raymond. Chris was in the lead early, but a slipped throttle cable took him out of the lead (and also collected 2nd place Josh). Matt Stevens then inherited the lead and ALSO broke down with a slipped throttle cable. Did someone loosen them all before the race? Three leaders lost leads due to it. Hmmmm….
[Edit CORRECTION: The #9 stalled while leading due to an accidental hitting of the kill switch with his leg. Matt resumed in last, but then a tire fell off the very next lap, ending the night for the #9. Matt elected to not jump in another kart to finish with a -5 point deduction. Chris did the same last week, meaning the ever rare occurance of Chris and Matt scoring DNFs in a race. However, due to not many drivers active in the race, their points did not suffer as dramatically as whena  driver quite a race with a fuller field.]

 photo 2017-06-24-2nd-feature-finish.jpg

This then put Keith Raymond in the lead with Josh Arnold on his tail. They put on an incredible duel for the lead, with Josh getting some good runs and Chris staying within striking distance, but Keith holding on for the win. I have said this time and time again all over this website: You will flat out NOT find any motor racing as affordable AND CLOSELY competitive anywhere, especially as long as we’ve been doing it (started in the 1990s, but in our 22nd year of Summer Points racing). That shot is just one more close finish in our long history of weekly close finishes, year in and year out.

SCORING NOTES:
For today’s race, Starter Wes Stevens was found up to his inconsistent lap counting habits again, Today, he counted cautions (we usually never do except in the Klassic 200), yet went one lap short in 1st feature, 1 lap long in 2nd even counting the yellow flag laps. When we count cautions, they do count as a lap, but no bonus points are given for top three positions (you earn that for a completed lap of green flag racing, not for a defaulted caution lap). They are always counted for green (unless a post-Klassic/Fall bonus points race or a heat, which they are never counted).

The chart is easy to follow. Regular season feature races at Galletta’s are handicapped by these tie-breakers in this level of importance:
(1st) Inverted by Current Season’s Wins,
(2nd) Inverted by Current Season’s Points-Per-Race
(3rd) Inverted by All-Time Galletta’s Wins
(4th) Inverted by Weight
In the case of twin feature races, field is inverted from finish of the 1st one, except the current season’s feature winner’s in the back inverted by wins no matter where they finished.
In the case of the Annual Klassic 200 race, start is determined by fastest time trial lap.

Watch the UNEDITED footage here:

BONUS: Since neither the victory photo NOR the edited race video got finished in time to post the following morning, I decided to just put up the playlist of all the unedited race footage. I actually do very little editing, mostly just compiling the clips and adding text and pictures. I’d like to narrate the races as well, but at the moment I do not have the time or a PC that can handle it (and one of the biggest reason why I put almost no videos up between 2012-2015. Every video in our history is up now, so enjoy them!)

7/3/2017 – Independence Day Makeup Points Race!
photo 2017-07-03 race at Galletta's (Oswego's finest karters, bar none, try if you disagree)

Due to regular drivers missing out on both Sunday and Monday evening races, and Kelly Miller bringing two drivers (son Stephen and nephew Griffin) and a 1st timer rookie also joined, we had a makeup points race. 35 laps, so we are counting it for two weeks of racing action due to so many laps run. Matt Stevens wanted to test the Galletta’s #6, so although he joined them, he is not counted for points.

35-Lap Makeup Points Race START:

  1. Griffin Miller (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
  2. Kelly Miller  (Galletta’s Greenhouse 7)
  3. EXHIBITION: Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
  4. Stephen Perez (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9)
  5. Nicholas Cassano  (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)

35-Lap Makeup Points Race FINISH:

  1. EXHIBITION: Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6, #33)
  2. Kelly Miller  (Galletta’s Greenhouse 7)
  3. Stephen Perez (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9)
  4. Griffin Miller (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
