October 1st, 2005 - Matt Stevens picked up where he left off during the 2005 Klassic — winning in the #3 kart. Matt has been the master of the low-groove, thereby passing people and then has enough top speed to usually not just hold off but pull away, leading him to be the man to beat every race. Here was no different. Matt picked off every driver one-by-one, trapping his dad (Wes) and brother (Chris) on a game Brian Bortel’s #15, then hunted down and defeated Robbie Jimenez (who put forth his best race of his young career before getting passed. Rob keeps improving and will eventually get a feature win sometime soon). In fact, only the OHV Outlaws challenged Matt all year, and they needed a bigger motor to do so. October 2nd, 2005 – Josh Schute was looking for his 1st feature win and led the early going until Gary Miller Sr. extracted the lead from him. Gary then had to contend with traffic while Chris Stevens hunted him down like a dog and looked for a pass until the right rear wheel in the #8 locked up and forced a pit. Matt Stevens then did something he does all the time (win a feature event) in something rarely done (win it in the #2), when he trapped Miller on the lapped kart of Ken Pitsley, meaning Matt AGAIN prevented another 1st time feature winner, just like the week before! (Gary had won a non-winners race before the ’05 Klassic). Matt also again proved that any of these karts can win if the driver is experienced and talented enough to do so. October 8th, 2005 - Jason "The Hand" Mills survived an opening lap pileup that put four drivers to the rear of the field and then led all fifty laps in the Galletta's #6 en route to his first career win at Galletta's Speedway. Chris "The Chrusher" was 2nd (in his #8) and a hard-charging Matt Stevens (in his #3) settled for third. Young Eddie Scruton (in his #12 kart) impressed and showed vast improvement by racing in third for a large chunk of the race (holding off Matt and nearly passing Chris before a caution and a spinout in caution prevented the pass), but finished behind The Ogre. First time drivers, The Vanvorst brothers, had some comedic accidents that were caught on videotape. October 16th, 2005 - Wesley James "TrOgre" Stevens won his first race in around two years in a cold and wet October race. Ogre inherited the lead when pole-sitter Josh Schute had to stop the Galletta's #7 after it began making vibration noises, which forced Josh to hop into the Galletta's #6. Young Eddie Scruton (in his #12 kart) held a strong second behind Ogre for many laps, even challenging him a few times until Eddie's motor began sputtering and he was forced to retire. Gary Miller and Chris "The Chrusher" held off hot-shoes Matt Stevens (in his #3) for almost the entire race until Mattie-Jo snuck by Chris on the outside as Chris showed a wheel to Gary. Then, one lap later Gary hit a rut and spun out with only a few laps remaining. Chris challenged Matt while Matt challenged Ogre for the remainder of the race but the track was too slick for any solid passing opportunities. We're sorry, but the race video is currently missing... :( If found, it will be transferred and uploaded to the site.

10/31/2005 - Before one of the last-season Fall Races, we had a Haunted Halloween Trail of TERROR behind the track and greenhouses!

Oh, and we also had a Costumed Halloween Race on 10/31/200 as well -- but if we find it, we'll upload it! Matt racing in a William 'Braveheart' Wallace costume yelling, "FREEDOM!" is freakin' hilarious!

'05 Fall Series Notes: Although Matt and Chris are cemented in 1st and 2nd in the 2005 Season Points-Per-Race standings, the battle is for the other money-spots; places 3-5. Gary scored enough 2nd/3rd place points to pass Rob Jimenez for third place overall (Rob was suffering from soreness due to his girlfriend Amanda crushing him that may have slowed his racing). The race is so close between places 3 through 7, that every single race can change the order significantly, and the drivers that do not show for every race usually wind up losing valuable positioning, especially in these late-season 50-lappers and wetter passing conditions. Gary, Rob, Jason and even Ogre have benefited greatly from Ed's lack of post-Classic visits and the banishment of 5.5+hp motors and refusal of their drivers to race same motor type as the rest of us.

Well, that wraps up the 2005 season, a large and fun one, with some excellent new competitors joining the club. Unfortunately, we also lost a handful of competitive racers because they could not agree to use the same motors that the rest of us used. Maybe someday they'll come back and race our type motors or have a second motor class. Either way, they would be welcomed back. Regardless, get ready for an even bigger season, as the Oswego Speedway is building a dirt track. Gary Miller tested it out the 1st day of operation in September during Classic Weekend (while we watched from the crowd), and although it seems to be like it is going to be very small, our class - as long as we are allowed our own right-turn, gas stock flathead motor class - will likely give it a shot when it opens for business. Get ready for... 2006!

Please contact Chris Stevens via email for ordering/buying a DVD that will contain anywhere from 1-4 races per disc. (2-angles: Middle track and Tower). The first three Fall events (10/1, 10/2, and 10/8) are videotaped races (2-angles: Middle track and Tower) and available on DVD. The others have been lost in our archives, but if found will be updated.
