The first thirteen laps took forever to complete, as they were caution-filled thanks mostly to the inexperienced rookie drivers. Opening lap was no exception, as it saw a massive pileup in the 2nd turn. Afterwards, the rookie drivers then angrily whined for their entrance and kart rental money donations back due to a lack of completed laps, but seemed to overlook the fact that they caused most of the cautions and caused costly damage to the karts. This has forced Chris to institute a new "Heat qualifier" race for rookies only, and if they cannot complete the heat without wrecking and/or breaking, then they will not be allowed to race in the feature event with the experienced drivers.
Last week's winner, Gary Miller (#24), didn't have the same luck, as he found things a little tougher when you don't start on the pole with a points handicap. Early on he was pressured and then passed by Chris and Matt Stevens, then Matt somehow mysteriously spun-out. Gary then stormed off the track due to the amount of cautions. The constant arguing over the amount of cautions and repair breaks has led to a new time-limit system to be discussed and voted on by the drivers. The system would give more time for drivers in the thick of the points race, but rookie drivers who are not competitive will not have as much repair time allotted to them.
(Left) The caution that Gary and Matt collided in also caused another accident. At the time, the race was led by another handicapped rookie driver named Derek Woodworth who saw the caution, but then slowed up too quickly by slamming on the brakes and caused several karts to check up. This chain reaction saw Ogre then catching a tire and slamming into a tree. Thankfully, with a used Supermodified tire in front of it, he was not injured. (Right) Rick Maynes (#9) and Jason Mills (#6) battle near the front.

After Jason Mills (#6) retired with carb pickup problems, the battle for the final twenty-seven laps saw Chris Crusher Stevens (#8) followed by Ed Maynes (#43) and Matt Stevens (#3). The battle for second was particularly furious as Matt kept getting runs on Ed, but couldn't get the pass.
The final lap saw Chris "ChrusherComix" a pull away from Ed Maynes and Matt Stevens to get an impressive victory and take a slim lead in the point standings. 2006 Galletta's Go-Karts Point Standings: After 3 races from 6/11/2006 thru 6/25/2006

Galletta's Karting Club @ Oswego Speedway Exhibition #1 - Friday, June 23rd 2006:
Oswego Speedway's dirt track (2005 pic) where we race once per week June-August!
On Friday, June 23rd 2006, a handful of the Galletta's Go-Kart Association ventured to the Oswego Speedway and put on an exhibition that had a 10-lap heat and a 20-lap feature with our limited modification Racing Yard Karts (right-turn, motors must be gas, stock carb, stock motors but w/shaved heads allowed). Matt Stevens, Chris Stevens, Gary Miller, Wesley "Ogre" Stevens, Brian Bortel, Robbie Jimenez and Josh Schute put on a great show, had a great time, and we plan to be back every week with more drivers and karts. Matt won both the heat and the feature - passing Gary Miller on the last lap, but it didn't count for points. Also there are a fledgling amount of WKA-spec methanol kart classes. We are more than happy to help support the track as a stable, 10-16 kart "affordable" pump gas, stock motor class, as it gives us a secondary track to run, maybe entice some new drivers to join us, and also show off that our veteran drivers are just as good as any other karting class around as well. For more info, go to the Speedway's official site here (the track would later go on to be named "Oswego Kartway" in 2008). We later went back and counted all of these drivers and races for separate Oswego Points here. Now, onto next Sunday's point race at Galletta's....
DVD is available for $5. Galletta's Go-Karts 2006 Volume 2 DVD features 6/18/2006 and 6/25/2006 races on one DVD (each race videotaped in it's entirety from 2 angles [Pits & Tower] totaling 2 hours of racing footage.
2006 Volumes #1 & 2 DVD set: Contains the June 11th, 2006, June 18th, 2006 andJune 25th, 2006 races at Galletta's. Two discs contains highlights from 2006 and on. Two camera angles of each race. Price $5 each disc.
DONATIONS / FEES / RENTAL KARTS:
Arrive-and-drive karts may be rented. Rental donation is bare-bones, covering gas and parts wear only! Galletta's operates on a nominal "donation fees to keep the track ready and karts running. Anything you can donate to the track and karts helps. We also allow drivers to race with us provided they agree to sign a waiver, and the land owner allows recreational karts to run under the New York Recreational Use Statute.
We run 1-wheel-drive gas flathead motors with some racing enhancements all done on site.
Bring your own kart:
- $5 donation to enter your own kart (donation to Matt for his track work, donation waived if you bring multiple racers to rent). If Matt or Wes works on YOUR owned kart, please give him MORE than this $5 bare bones tip. It's worth it, as you will NOT find another karting division ANYWHERE where the top driver and mechanic will help you have a kart capable of beating them on any given race day for so little. We LOVE racing, and we sacrifice our own karts by helping our friends, relatives and total strangers to compete against us!
Galletta's Team Kart for Regular Event (40-70 laps):
We have over 15 arrive-and-drive karts on-site, all competitive feature winners and waiting for drivers to pilot them.
- Regular Driver / Returning Veteran: $20
- Newbie Driver / Rookie Driver: $25
Ask Matt about a full-year membership rental, or rent a kart with your own motor/drive system, which would be considerably less than weekly AND have that kart reserved for you every week.
Galletta's Team Kart for Regular Event (200 laps + qualifiers):
Klassic rental will be more. Contact Matt, as deals can be made, depending on how many laps you run and if you don't break the karts!
We can help you build your own Galletta's-style kart for only a few hundred dollars. From time to time, some drivers sell their Galletta's-style karts for $200-300 as well. You will NOT be able to spend that little on a competitive, feature-winning kart in any other karting division around. Period.
Spectators:
- Spectators are free to watch! (But stay safely away from the track!)
- Pose with a kart and be counted in our points race via 1 lap? Free! Just ask!
The above countdown is usually updated as soon as news breaks (rain-dates, postponements, reschedules, etc.), so pay attention to this sidebar.
If you have not raced with us before, you are welcome to join! We have many arrive-and-drive karts available, and you will not race with a more talented karting group, empirically proven on this website (and erased from the local pay track website because of how good of a show we put on for bottom dollar)! Even if just a lap to earn points, or race in a newbie qualifier... give it a shot. 99% of the time, people love it! 2014 will now have membership, which will help regular drivers race the full season. Contact us.
Galletta's Backyard Go-Kart Speedway is a free-to-race-on and free-to-watch 0.133887 mile dirt oval with 20-degree banked turns . It is located behind Galletta's Greenhouse in Oswego, NY, and can be seen from outer space! The single-wheel-drive gasoline-fueled flathead motor karts take the track between 15-17 seconds per lap which averages over 30 mph (approximately 45-50 mph top speed in the straights). Our speeds are comparable to alcohol/methanol-fueled karts that cost 8 times as much because we use mostly homemade or rebuilt go-karts and gas on a large track; leading to more karts, more competition, and more fun. Our class is usually the largest and most competitive in the area. Thanks to Google Earth for this Spring 2006 photo. Our karting club's home track is located in back of:
