10/13/2013 - 2013 GAS FLATHEAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP / GALLETTA'S GREENHOUSE TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY CHRIS STEVENS, DECLARES HIMSELF BEST KARTER ON OSWEGO, NY!
With a season-high 6 feature victories, an overwhelming amount of top-3 bonus points all year long, and 193 out of 210 laps in the top three followed by a 3rd place finish in the Klassic (including nearly winning it - but was trapped in traffic) to clinch it, Chris "The Cerebral Chrusher" Stevens clinches the 2013 Gas Flathead World Championship at Galletta's Greenhouse Speedway! And, with 38 competitors competing in 24 feature events, it is by far the largest and most experienced karting class in the city of Oswego and for a large part of Central New York as well. When asked about his declaration of bestistism, he stated, "My brother is and has been the best karter in Oswego - his record is untouchable. And I owe him for setting up my karts so good, and in fact, everybody's karts so good. When he touches your kart, it's up front. No question. But at least this year, I took the track title in Oswego's biggest and longest-running class and came so close to winning my 3rd straight 200-lapper. And Rumble got more screen time than Frenzy, so yep, it's me. I cannot deny it. I'm the best. I declare myself champion. Don't like it, come take it. Gauntlet gets thrown every year, a lot of empty scrots in cookie-cutter pre-fabs proving nothing elsewhere, we know. We know. We see ya'. It's cool, y'know. Know your limits. Thank you, bubs." In addition to the below 2013 point tallies (found below the page reviews on this page), the All-Time Points & Win Tallies to every Galletta's Karting event on the two Oswego Karting tracks from 2000-2013 has been updated and located on this webpage. Next season, we will be racing on more Saturdays than ever before in order to allow more drivers to make it on a regular weekly basis. See you then!
The year in review, including the giant point finale "Klassic 200-Lap Championship" that he clinched it in is below. On...
10/13/2013 - The 18th Annual Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200 won by Kelly Miller in the Galletta's Greenhouse #7!!!

9/18/2013 - Adam Lytle wins "A Klassic is a Comin' 50" Full Moon mid-week Special in the Lytle Motorsports #33c. his 1st career feature win!
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY - The race that was scheduled for Sunday, September 15th, 2013 got the heats in (won by Adam Lytle in Lytle 33c and Chris Stevens in Galletta's #5), but the feature rained out before lap 1 was completed. So, we were able to get almost all of the drivers who qualified in the heats back for a special mid-week race, and made it a 50-lap shakedown for Klassic, which may be our next race depending on weather and driver availability. And some crazy full moon incidents went down, including Matt Stevens (driving his pregnant wife's karts) taking the lead then sputtering, Lytle passing him back, then Chris Stevens breaking tie-rods on the #5 by hitting his bro and becoming the newest entrant into the Nature Boy Club by crashing into the woods THEN having the throttle stick on the #0 and almost going BACK into the woods FROM the pit (WOW!), a few drivers breaking before the checker, and finally Lytle getting passed by Kevin Galletta, then getting him back and holding on for his 1st career win. As if you couldn't tell with that ear to ear smile! Whew! Quite a race! And Lytle earned and deserved it, as he has run most of the schedule for 2 years and has had all kinds of freakish bad luck, late restart passes and mechanical problems take him out of near-victories before. Now, the race page is finally complete!
RACING SCHEDULE NOTE: This weekend, we are not planning any races for Saturday-Sunday, September 21st-22nd, 2013, due to family, the forthcoming birth of Matt and Melissa Stevens' firstborn, Lilybeth, work, weather, driver availability, football, one of our drivers due date, and closeness to the approaching Klassic 200, where we need at least two weeks to prepare each and every one of the karts and track at their tip-top shape for the big one. We are looking at Saturday, October 5th, 2013 for our 18th Annual Klassic 200, with a Sunday the 6th rain date, and we are looking for ONLY the best drivers in Oswego, NY to prove themselves in the most competitive and ONLY 200 lap go-kart race in Oswego - our 18th!
9/8/2013 - Brian Galletta and Ryan Palmer win The Track is Loose as Heck Twin-30s!
9/1/2013 - Branden "Tumor" Matott & Matt Stevens Win The 18th Annual Oswego Karting Labor Day Championship Twin-30s!
8/25/2013 - Matt Stevens Triumphs in Galletta's Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74 at the "War of Attrition & No-Shows 25" Shortened Event!

8/18/2013 - Eric Woolworth wins his 2nd career Feature in the Raven Tavern #88!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 18th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY - Eric Woolworth swept the night's heat and feature in his Raven Tavern #88 by passing Dave Spanfelner in the early stages, running away and hiding enough on late-charging Matt and Chris Stevens to collect his 2nd career win, both this season. 10 karts were used, and c'mon... we have so many open karts people. I guess it is true... people really do fear us as the best karters in Oswego and puss out on race day. Period. Word. Pass it. Do you think don't want more people to beat? Bring it, son. More details are on the race page here! All drivers raced hard.
8/10 - 8/11/2013 - Justin Galletta, Chris Stevens & Kevin Galletta won the "Triple 30 Lappers for Tim Galletta" weekend
8/4/2013 - Dave Spanfelner Plows Through Dominates Traffic to win "Mr. Oswego Karting 10,000-Rocks-To-Win" 45-Lapper in the D.S. Humphrey's #54!
SUNDAY,AUGUST 4th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY - The "Mr. Oswego Karting 10,000-Rocks-To-Win" 45-Lapper was utterly dominated by Mr. David Spanfelner in the D.S. Humphrey's #54! Dave blasted from 4th to 1st at the drop of the green flag and held off countless pass attempts from point-leaders Matt and Chris Stevens and 7/28/2013: Chris Stevens wins the 10-kart "Chris' Declaration of Bestism 40" in the Galletta’s/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi LLC #4!
SUNDAY, JULY 28th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY - Driving the Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi LLC #4, Chris Stevens wins his fifth feature of 2013 (and since 2000, his 73rd feature win combined at Galletta’s Karting Speedway and Oswego Speedway’s Dirt Kartway) and has long sung the praises of his brother’s unbelievable stats, but has gone a step further to declare he and his brother the best adult Oswego Karters, period. Clue delivered. *FLUSH* Guess what? There are lotta' more details on the weekly race page here.
7/21/2013: Joe Sereno wins the 10-kart "Full Moon 45" in the Galletta's #5!
SUNDAY, JULY 21st, 2013, OSWEGO, NY - Joe Sereno wins the Full Moon 45 in the Galletta's Greenhouse #5! Taking the lead in the fairly early going, then holding off challenges from Eric Woolworth and Matt Stevens proved a task not too difficult for our Popeye-armed / Bearded Brawler/ Husky Helper Joseph! More details, pictures, points, and comedy awaits you on the race page... now updated for you HERE!
7/14/2013: Matt Stevens Breaks Bro's Streak in 45-Lap Feature Triumph
SUNDAY, JULY 14th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY - Matt Stevens (in the Galletta's Greenhouse #3) snapped his brother's 3-feature win streak by passing polesitter and early-leader Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c) on a lap-16 restart and led the rest of the way. Matt wins his 3rd feature of 2013 with the triumph, coming back from a lap 0 warning where flagger Wesley "Ogre" Stevens claimed Matt jumped the gun (he did go from 5th to tied for 1st at the start before Wes threw the yellow for the warning). Meanwhile, his brother Chris trapped Lytle in traffic for 2nd and was hoping for 10 more laps and a little mre traffic so he could challenge. Honorable mention goes to Adam Lytle, who is continuing to show improvement with his fresher motor prepped by Matt a few weeks back and if not for a slow restart and lapped traffic, may have had his 1st career win. The hot temperatures kept some from making the race - and we almost had to postpone, but some late arriving rookies made for 10 competitors in the show, which qualified for our self-imposed minimum driver requirement at 8. However, missing was Brian Galletta, who took some damage in the points race after being in the top-3 all season until now. (And Buddy the Galletta's Greenhouse Patrol cat photo-bombed victory lane... AGAIN!) Points, pictures and descriptions are done, please check them out here!!
7/7/2013: Chris Stevens wins 3rd Straight Feature at 18th Annual Independence Day 45!
SUNDAY, JULY 7th, 2013 - Chris Stevens took the Galletta's Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #4 into victory lane for his 4th feature win of 2013 (including 3rd in a row!) with a strong performance in the Independence Day 45-Lapper, our 18th annual race to celebrate America's birthday! Initial leader Joe Sereno was holding strong - as Chris, Matt Stevens and Brian Galletta all passed each other back and forth behind him - until his drive tire blew shortly after the #4 passed him for the lead. Then another battle occurred as the leaders came up on traffic between Chris, Brian, and Matt... a tremendous contest from start to finish. (And Buddy the Galletta's Greenhouse Patrol cat photo-bombed victory lane... AGAIN!) TONS of pictures showing the exciting action, descriptions, and points are updated and located on this page!
6/30/2013: Chris Stevens Sweeps the Twin-35s in his Galletta's Greenhouse #4 & the #0!
SUNDAY, JUNE 30th, 2013 - Chris Stevens duplicated his brother's previously undone feat of winning back-to-back Twin-35s in two different karts. Tearing up the 1st feature in the Galletta's Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #4 with a nice fresh replacement engine he purchased off eBay for $25 (he blew a rod in the opener), he then hopped into the often ignored Galletta's Greenhouse #0 in the 2nd feature and promptly looked just as fast, if not faster taking the win in that, after the initial leader - a VERY game and rocketship fast Dave Spanfelner - slowed up due to what seemed to be a burnt out clutch on the DS Humphrey's #54. Thirteen karts and 70 laps in one race! This is what we mean when we say biggest and most competitive karting class in the area, bar none. PAGE AND POINTS ARE NOW UPDATED!
6/23/2013: Matt Stevens Sweeps the Twin-35s in his Galletta's Greenhouse #3 & 33!
SUNDAY, JUNE 23rd, 2013 - Matt Stevens is like a high-scoring MVP in a sport. You can contain him, slow him down for a bit, even think you got him figured out. Then he explodes. Matt took over the lead from his handicap starting position of 2nd place in the 1st feature and led most of the race to win the 1st feature. But in the 2nd feature, he really didn't deserve it running 4th the whole way. But Chris Stevens, Dave Spanfelner, and Billy Truax all had serious shots at the win but all made mistakes that Matt capitalized upon, taking Truax by a bumper at the checker. The kid just cannot be stopped, and no driver at the local pay karting tracks is in his league in terms of experience, motor building, and sheer volume of wins and championships. His record speaks for itself, ignored or not. More pictures and points are now updated!
6/19/2013: Dave Spanfelner and Brian Galletta take the Mid-Week Twin Features!
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19TH, 2013 - Sunday, June 16th saw a muddy track prevent the 2nd of 3 regularly-scheduled Sunday races for the 2013 season. So for the 2nd time in this young season, we ran a mid-week special rain-date event! Dave Spanfelner won the 1st Twin-30 in his DS Humphrey's #54. Then Brian Galletta stormed by his brother Kevin to take the 2nd feature, which was shortened to 24 laps by starter Wesley TrOgre Stevens due to dark (despite Chris and Matt's protest to finish the last 6). These two also won the last Twin-30s, the DS Humphrey's 2012 Fall Finale! (Behold! Buddy the Galletta's Greenhouse patrol cat got in the pic, too! Ogie's gotta' be gettin' jealous.) Sorry we were behind due to the shortened race week, but rest assured... more pictures and points are here!
6/9/2013: Eric Woolworth picks up 1st career win in Raven Tavern #88!
SUNDAY, JUNE 9TH, 2013 - Eric Woolworth had flirted with victory lane a handful of times in his rookie season last year, but always had a freak luck break or lose control of his kart at the worst time. Not today. Eric led all 45-laps from his pole starting position, and -- although Brian Galletta pulled alongside of him, and Matt and Chris Stevens kept him within sight -- none of the nine other competitors could get him. More details are found HERE!
6/5/2013: 18th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Season Opener (45-Laps)

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5TH 2013 – The 18th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Club Season Opener (the original, longest-running, most competitive, and largest karting class in Oswego, NY) was scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd, 2013, but for the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th?) year in a row, rained out (technically, the rain stopped in time for a race, but the track was far too wet to prepare). We did not announce a rain date publicly because we flat out did not know what day we were going to run (a lot of track work and kart work was needed and rain was on the horizon). Wednesday wound up being the best day with rain forecasts for the weekend, so we hurried up and ran with it. 8 veterans made it, no surprise that they were the top-8 points-earners in 2012 – and we obviously lost a few rookie 1st-timers because of our short-notice wid-week rain date – but we still put on a tremendous race for our opener. Chris Stevens won the opener in his old kart, the Galletta’s Greenhouse Bluestreak #2! Why was he in this usual Galletta’s Team “rental” kart when he has two karts of his own? And why is his cousin Brian Galletta sneaking up behind him with an evil look in his e

We have discussed changing time of our weekly races on many occasions through the years. What happens is that we don't have very many racers (the ones that do come at a good attendance clip we call "regular veteran drivers"). Of those, many are unable to come until after 5pm (and some not until 6pm or even 7 or 8pm), and any earlier would usually be too hot in the semi-full-to-full sun and for all of us to get everything ready. So, we are completely open to maybe 5-5:30pm, but getting every driver at the track on time, all karts ready to roll, all drivers, camera people, and what limited flaggers we have in position, track watering at the EXACT right time (not too early or late) waiting for drivers to make it (we can't cut off late arrivals because we don't have enough as it is), and last but not least, we have one head mechanic who is responsible for almost all of the motors and karts. Due to all of these things, it usually winds up being later than any of us intended due to unforeseen circumstances (late or non-arriving drivers, broken karts i need of repair are the two main delays). <!–mep-nl–><!–mep-nl–>
1. May is the family business – the Greenhouse, and we only made allowances one year in or 18-year racing history, and we suffered for it, so we can't race at all then.<!–mep-nl–>
2. Early in the summer (all of June), the greenhouse is still busy, but not so busy that we can race after 7pm.<!–mep-nl–>
3. After June, we usually can try 5-6pm starts, provided that all drivers arrive on time and all karts are ready to go and people are in place.<!–mep-nl–>
4. If we race too early, it's often too hot until we get past maybe Labor Day. Then, we could have earlier starts on quite a few Saturdays and some Sundays.<!–mep-nl–><!–mep-nl–>
So, in short, we'd like to start the races at 5pm and be done by 7pm-8pm, but due to us being a backyard speedway with nothing but volunteers, no paid employees, no cash prizes for drivers to win, no big track's promotion and attention, and ONE head mechanic who is responsible for preparing 100% of the motors and most of the karts, it is very hard. It happens often actually, that races are done before dark. But one or two late shows and everyone remembers.<!–mep-nl–><!–mep-nl–>As for different days, we often run rain dates on weekdays (Monday through Wednesdays), and for many years we have been open to Friday, Saturday, or earlier Sunday races. We can never get a majority of regular drivers to agree to any other day than Sunday. We personally thing Friday and Saturday would be better as there is no work the next day, but many people who don't work on those days make plans on those days and our club rarely takes priority for many people and it doesn't work for the races. We used to go to the Oswego SPeedway every Saturday and would count that night out, but since we were booted from the track out back and our favorite driver doesn't go anymore, we haven't gone more than 1-3 races a year in the last few years. So, we'd be really open to Saturdays, but… not too many people will show.<!–mep-nl–><!–mep-nl–>
So… this is how we shaped Sunday nights after 5-6pm from June through August, then either Friday, Saturday, or Sundays September through October, usually can do 3-5pm on those days. Klassic is as early as we can make it, so that is a win-win for everyone.

Race with us!
DONATIONS / FEES / RENTAL KARTS:
Arrive-and-drive karts may be rented. Rental donation is bare-bones, covering gas and parts wear only! Galletta's operates on a nominal "donation fees to keep the track ready and karts running. Anything you can donate to the track and karts helps. We also allow drivers to race with us provided they agree to sign a waiver, and the land owner allows recreational karts to run under the New York Recreational Use Statute.
We run 1-wheel-drive gas flathead motors with some racing enhancements all done on site.
Bring your own kart:
- $5 donation to enter your own kart (donation to Matt for his track work, donation waived if you bring multiple racers to rent). If Matt or Wes works on YOUR owned kart, please give him MORE than this $5 bare bones tip. It's worth it, as you will NOT find another karting division ANYWHERE where the top driver and mechanic will help you have a kart capable of beating them on any given race day for so little. We LOVE racing, and we sacrifice our own karts by helping our friends, relatives and total strangers to compete against us!
Galletta's Team Kart for Regular Event (40-70 laps):
We have over 15 arrive-and-drive karts on-site, all competitive feature winners and waiting for drivers to pilot them.
- Regular Driver / Returning Veteran: $20
- Newbie Driver / Rookie Driver: $25
Ask Matt about a full-year membership rental, or rent a kart with your own motor/drive system, which would be considerably less than weekly AND have that kart reserved for you every week.
Galletta's Team Kart for Regular Event (200 laps + qualifiers):
Klassic rental will be more. Contact Matt, as deals can be made, depending on how many laps you run and if you don't break the karts!
We can help you build your own Galletta's-style kart for only a few hundred dollars. From time to time, some drivers sell their Galletta's-style karts for $200-300 as well. You will NOT be able to spend that little on a competitive, feature-winning kart in any other karting division around. Period.
Spectators:
- Spectators are free to watch! (But stay safely away from the track!)
- Pose with a kart and be counted in our points race via 1 lap? Free! Just ask!
The above countdown is usually updated as soon as news breaks (rain-dates, postponements, reschedules, etc.), so pay attention to this sidebar.
If you have not raced with us before, you are welcome to join! We have many arrive-and-drive karts available, and you will not race with a more talented karting group, empirically proven on this website (and erased from the local pay track website because of how good of a show we put on for bottom dollar)! Even if just a lap to earn points, or race in a newbie qualifier... give it a shot. 99% of the time, people love it! 2014 will now have membership, which will help regular drivers race the full season. Contact us.
