8/20/2017 - Cancelled due to insufficient Driver Attendance

SUNDAY, AUGUST 20th, 2017: A Galletta's Greenhouse Backyard Speedway Points race requires at least seven drivers to count for points, and due to only four veteran drivers available, it is not enough and the races for this weekend have been cancelled. R&C Sushi Bar LLC's surprise 50/50 prize for the winner & points fund has also been cancelled due to low driver turnout.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 26th, 2017: Several drivers (a few that raced with us before a couple of years ago) enabled us to get a show in and it wound up a good one. There was also a nasty wreck late in the feature with bodies flying. But why read my words? Watch the video playlist!

As many know, we hold heat races that serve as a dual-purpose for newbies and returning veterans: Makeup points for races they missed AND get some track tie in before a feature with the vets that have been out there every week/year. However, in late-August, due to work and seasonal activities, I simply do not have the time required to look over the season and grant makeup feature points like I can do most of the summer, so a deadline for FULL makeup points is usually mid-August. Don't despair though, as makeup races still count as bonus points and scored as a heat race that the regular drivers are not in. 1. Lee Gleason (Gleason #29) +20 pts 2. Mike West (Galletta's #1) +18 pts 3. Rob Vanderladen (Galletta's #2) +16 pts 4. Justin Thurston (Galletta's #43, #7, #6) (+14 pts -6 pts = ) +8 pts 5. Dave Hartpence Sr. (Galletta's #5) +12 pts 6. Dave Hartpence Jr. (Galletta's #78) +10 pts Now on to the regular feature. What a conundrum this season has been! Due to nearly ALL of our regular veterans either quitting outright or being too busy to race, we only have THREE drivers actually in the points race: Josh Arnold, and Chris and Matt Stevens! What's great is that these guys are having a very close battle and it's anybody's track title with every race the potential for leap frogging over each other from week to week. A negative that has been diminishing this great 3-man race? The trio has NOBODY to race with. If it was not for the 6 new drivers, we would have had to cancel this race. * = NOTE on starting order and Lap 2 accident: #19, since having her daughter in 2013, usually just takes 1-2 laps to score points and then pulls off. This means she is ALWAYS to start in LAST PLACE regardless of points handicaps, UNLESS she plans to actually race (to which she must inform the statman/scorer BEFORE the race lineup is set). For some reason, she started in front of #5, and she shouldn't have, because this creates a conflict between racers and non-racers. Rather predictably, because of this, she crashed into the driver behind her when trying to exit the track. Although she complained to track officials and the property owner that she was wrecked and the drivers were out of control (actually, all inexperienced drivers take anywhere from one to a handful of races to get the hang of the karts and track, and vets must know this and be aware when racing with them), the video showed what was suspected: It's her job to let people pass before exiting the track, not the driver that doesn't know she is pulling off after a lap or two instead of being out there to race. You can't get mad if someone doesn't know you are going from racing full-speed for position to suddenly swerving off the track in front of you when they crash into you. He could not have known, and this is critical to always try to know what the other people in your immediate vicinity are thinking too, not just tunnel vision yourself and your own thoughts and ambitions only, then get mad if something bad happened that was likely the consequenses of not considering others in wake of your otherwise unpredictable and rash decisions that occur without warning to others. Important lessons learned on the track that can also go for real life, too! Oh, and don't get mad and shoot the messenger when someone speaks up when nobody else does because they're afraid to tell you the truth. Who said racing is dumb? Two nice things to know rght there!

SCORING NOTES: Due to flagger error again, we went two extra laps and will be scored as bonus points (per usual). We need a flagger and a lap counter, as time and time again, we keep going extra laps (which sometimes drastically change the outcome of the race). Also, #93 was actually involved in the big nasty lapped traffic accident on lap #34. Technically, he should have gone to the rear, but since nobody noticed due to the chaos of the wreck, he will lose only -5 points for not restarting in correct position and nobody catching it until scoring the video. When directly involved in a wreck, you are always to go to the back, even if it wasn't your fault. Exceptions are if you spun or went off the track to avoid with no noticable/notable contact with another competitor or large object (and usually, if karts get damaged during the indicent, then it shows that contact was made). Since the #93 did a good job of making sure he didn't run over anybody and it was clearly not an intentional thing, he will not get the full penalty of -10 point deduction. Also, #19 gets -5 point deduction for crashing with a competitor and then complaining about the competitor to the property owner.

Finally, Josh Arnold gets a regular season victory when it wasn't a twin-feature night! But we weren't done for the weekend, yet! The following day, another crop of newbies AND two returning veteran drivers showed up for another race! NOTE: We are open to a Sunday, August 27th 2017 rookie/makeup point race if there are enough drivers and if Matt can repair the damaged karts in time. It would only count as a new 2017 Points Event if the top 3 scorers are also able to run, otherwise. Contact Matt Stevens during the day if you are interested. Wait... IT HAPPENED! 8/27/2017 - Two big races in two nights; Matt Stevens wins 35-Lapper!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 27th, 2017: Several MORE drivers (this time a handful of rookie 1st time racers at Galletta's and a surprising return of Team Dann) joined us for a surprise Sunday evening showdown. As you can see from the video, the racing was actually extremely good both Saturday AND Sunday considering the amount of new drivers in both. Die to work, I have been delayed in making victory lane pictures and doing points, so enjoy the unedited race video playlists in the meantime! Should be a barn-burner of a race for this upcoming weekend and hopefully thereafter (wait... after a small welding incident fixing a kart during the race... maybe we shouldn't use the term 'barn-burner'). SCORING NOTES: On restart #9, karts #9, #0, and #78 started in front of #33cII (Josh), and will be penalized -5 points each for not restarting in their proper position. #2 was passed as a lap kart by the top 3, but then went a lap down by the entire field after he let them all by on the next restart. Per usual, every driver that used a 2nd kart during a regular season race is deducted -5 points.

Ooh, that tricky Matt! Matt Stevens again prevailed in the double-header weekend at Galletta's after he trapped his brother Chris on lapped traffic (oddly enough, of Jason Sixberry, the contractor that Chris and his wife hired to work on the foundation of their house! Costing Chris again! ;) ). Matt held on for the win without further traffic to return the favor. This makes the 3rd time this season that Josh and Matt have won the weekend's two feature events (pretty soon, we can just re-use stock photos). If Chris wasn't consistently racking up bonus points in top-3 laps, he would be way behind the both of them, as he only has two wins on the season, while Matt and Josh have 4 and 3 respectively. And get this: All three were leading feature events and broke down, so it could be even worse. I am a bit behind on the points and edited YouTube video due to work and annual festivities, but I will get it done ASAP!  9/8/2017 Update: Done!

Race schedule is also difficult to plot out this time of year, but we are looking at Saturday. HANDICAP ORDER In order to make more competition for the points leaders who keep starting on the pole (or near it), we are letting ANYBODY who has raced at least once at Galletta's this season start on the pole unless they deeply are against it and WANT to start in the rear. Usually, drivers must get a few races in until they learn how to hold a firm line so that racing can be possible without an accident. But this season, we simply just do not have any choice, as Chris, Matt and Josh start 1-2-3 and only a breakdown, crash, or lapped traffic is the only way a pass ever happens. Too easy, so we're trying to make things interesting (which usually only happens when lapped traffic comes up). The usual habdicapping goes as follows: starting grid is determined by inverting (1) Season Wins, (2) Seasonal Points Per Race, and if no current season wins, we invert by (3) All-Time Wins and then (4) Seasonal Points Per Race, and if no all-time wins, then we simply invert by (5) Seasonal Points Per Race. Newbies and returning veterans not in the points must start in the rear until they get into the system.

Sunday, September 3rd, 2017 - Due to lack of available drivers (only 5-6, and just short of our 7 driver minimum field), Labor Day week festivities, two races last weekend, Oswego Speedway's Classic 200 delayed due to rain and work (we've raced after the 200 many times), SATURDAY, September 2nd, 2017's race was postponed. Go figure... as last weekend we had SEVENTEEN DRIVERS racing on TWO NIGHTS thanks to two batches of newbie drivers last Saturday and Sunday... and this weekend, we could only get a hold of 5 or 6. Next weekend, we project a bigger driver count, as long as some of last weekend's new drivers come back. (Reading this guys? Let's make another big field! Out track and club history is littered with dozens of examples where hundreds of drivers quit just as it's getting good. If they didn't quit when they did, we would be having 23 kart fields instead of 5-10 kart fields. Simply because 4-5 drivers quit as soon as another 4-5 other drivers joined).  There's a slight chance for a Monday, 9/4/2017 show, but probably not (due to the webmaster/racer/stat/video guy -- myself, Chris --  actually works on Labor Day Monday of all things (and we have a family cookout planned after work. Don't ever let anyone tell you I'm lazy! Tired from work, family stuff and a lack of sleep, but not lazy! ;) Oh, and Matt has informed me that his wife is training Lilybeth to sleep at dusk and get up at the crack of dawn for pre-school, so for sure no Monday night race). Friday, September 8th, 2017 - As the weekend approaches, we have noticed extremely little conversations about the racing and a strange radio silence amongst every driver who has raced thus far this season. Quite frankly, even though two weeks ago was great with 17 drivers over two nights, we need more drivers and a few regulars to come back on a weekly basis and not just 'one-and-done' or 'make-one-race-then-skip-the-next-month' types. We need weekly competitors. If the rookies don't keep coming back and the veterans don't start coming back, the rest of our season -- including our annual 200-Lap Klassic Championship -- is in serious jeopardy! Years ago, people kept telling us our track is unsafe and someone was gonna' get hurt and we'll close down. While we've had some crazy wrecks and a few bumps and bruises, we've never had a truly serious accident, and we have tried our best to make the racing clean and keep the prayers coming in order to race as safe and as sound as well as we can. However, our club IS in danger, and nothing to do with injury potential: The danger of nobody wants to race anymore! We're still scratching our heads as to why, but in what is allegedly a racer town and in an unstable economy where people shouldn't be so quick to spend grand after grand to field a race car or kart, one would think our club would be thriving more than the occasional great race followed by several weeks of nobody showing up. If you are in the area, come on out! We need drivers to have fun doing what we've been doing for over two decades -- racing equalized karts and having a ton of fun.

9/9/2017 - Race Cancelled Due to Lack of Driver Availability

Saturday, September 9th, 2017 - Due to lack of available drivers (only 4, far short of our 7 driver minimum field), our races are again cancelled for the week. Once again, we are only open to Thursday, Friday, or Saturday races from Labor Day on, so if you want to race, contact us. However, if more racers don't start coming soon, we will be forced to schedule our 200-Lapper with only a few drivers and be done with the season.
