GALLETTA’S KARTWAY GAS STOCKER KARTING 2008 RACE #3
~ June 22nd, 2008 Races at John J. Galletta Memorial Speedway ~
6/22/2008 Galletta's Kartway Twin 30s Winners - Matt Stevens & Ryan Coleman!

The Galletta’s Karting Club Speedway held a Twin-30s night, both having 11-karts each! And all *gasp* with 5hp flathead motors! There were several almost, shoulda’-coulda’ winners: Dick Dann, Russ Hockey, Nick Dann, and Chris Stevens all had race leads, but either a wreck or mechanical failure took them each out of the top spots. Though they each came so close to taking the features, it was Matt Stevens and Ryan Coleman that took the checkered flags to both using both great driving skill and a little luck. More details and pictures will come later in the week below.

PRACTICE

Colin Miller gets some practice in the Galletta's #0 kart (His dad, Gary Miller looks on).
For openers, Gary Miller Sr.’s son Colin Miller got some practice laps in the Galletta’s #0. Looks like the kid has potential to be a future Galletta’s Karting feature winner! More pictures here. Now to the racing action…

HEATS

Heat 1 DVD captureHeat 2 DVD Capture

10-lap Heat 1 (left) went to a first-time winner in Russ Hockey (#00), holding off Ryan Coleman (#7), Matt Stevens (#33), Nick Dann (#68), Melissa Gabel (#3), and rookie Rob Clarke (#6). 10-lap Heat 2 (right) went to Chris Stevens (#8), who was followed by Mike “MC” Howell (#5), Jim “JP” Stepien (#0), Dick Dann (#86), and rookie Jeff Tetro (#2).

TWIN FEATURES

Galletta's 1st of Twin 30s Feature Lineup 6/22/2008

John “JP” Stepien and Nicholas Dann lead the field away!
Highlights from the first 30 lapper (forgive the bad sound and video quality, as it is compressed for the internet. The DVD has DVD-quality video and audio.)

1st Feature finish as follows: Matt Stevens (#33) and Chris Stevens (#8) both passed Russ Hockey (#00) on the final laps only after he got out of shape. They were followed by Dick Dann (who almost won in the #86 but got spun by the #7 while leading), , JP Stepien (#0), Ryan Colemen (#7), Jeff Tetro (#2), Melissa Gabel (#3),  Rob Clarke (#6), MC Howell (#5), and Nick Dann (#68-DNF/#1-DNF).

Here is a highlight reel of the second feature. Lots of close racing, drama, and competition throughout. And *gasp* all 5hp flathead gas stocker motors, evenly matched, several almost-winners, and no complaints of cheating! Remember, these are VERY low resolution clips from the weekly DVDs. DVDs are only $6 (or $5 for Galletta’s Visitor Kart Racers, and $4 for Galletta’s Team Kart renters).

The 2nd feature finished as follows: Ryan Coleman (#7) won, followed by Matt Stevens (#33), JP Stepien (#0), Dick Dann (#86), Melissa Gabel (#3), Russ Hockey (#00), who barely nipped Chris Stevens (who nearly led with the #8, until the carb/tank came loose and he finished in the#4), MC Howell (#5), Jeff Tetro (#2), Rob Clarke (#6), and Nick Dann (who led the 1st 22 laps before losing a pull cord and scored a DNF in the#68). *WHEW!* Now… adding it all up:

This website covers the Galletta’s Karting club, which is a group of racing-modified yard karts founded in in the early 1990s. We race exclusively box-stock 5hp flathead Briggs & Stratton 90’s-and-up style motors without any expensive racing parts (except shaved heads), and run on pump gas-only. We are also staggered to turn right instead of left due to the single-wheel drive system found on most yard karts. This enables us to corner faster without using a live axle like found on WKA-style karting leagues. We document our race descriptions, points standings, and video captures from our DVDs.

The Oswego Gas Stocker Club races at Galletta’s Greenhouse Kartway & Oswego Speedway Kartway.
