The July 4th, 2008 event was a Friday Night Lights Money Show, which featured NINE karting divisions in racing action! It also marked the first time since our first visit in 2006 that our invented brand of Galletta’s style 5hp flathead gas stockers were allowed an exclusive division at the track instead of mixing with 6.5hp open motors, which now rightly have their own class called 6.5hp Open Outlaws. Though the track was rough due to working in some new clay, the feature was an exciting success as we put on the closest kart division of the night. Though every karting class is also recorded on the DVD, this website specializes primarily in the 5hp Gas Stocker Championship of Oswego, County, NY – which races at Galletta’s Greenhouse and Oswego Kartway all Summer.

: The July 4th, 2008 event was a Friday Night Lights Money Show, which featured NINE karting divisions in racing action! It also marked the first time since our first visit in 2006 that our invented brand of Galletta’s style 5hp flathead gas stockers were allowed an exclusive division at the track instead of mixing with 6.5hp open motors, which now rightly have their own class called 6.5hp Open Outlaws. Because Jim Losurdo graciously FINALLY allowed us to run our own class again (for the 1st time since 2006!), we will be able to talk some people back into coming, as one of the major reasons against it was forcing us to run against motors that had a lot more horsepower than our whole class, making it very unfair from our point of view (we were called whiners, but to anybody who says that I ask, “What if you or your kid was forced to run against bigger motors? I bet you’d never come back!” )Gary Miller Sr., Dick Dann, Nick Dann, and Wesley “Ogre” Stevens — in his first race since his 2007 Klassic accident —  all elected to come back! More will probably be talked back into it in the future.

This was an Oswego Money show, meaning the winners got cash prizes. BEFORE THE SHOW, WE ALL AGREED TO DIVIDE THE MONEY EQUALLY NO MATTER WHO WON.

Here is more from the 7/4/2008 show:

Start of the 5hp gas stocker heat race won by Chris Stevens.
Chris Stevens (Galletta’s #8) won the heat and was followed by Gary Miller (Miller #24), Nick Dann (Dann #68), Russ Hockey (Hockey #00), Matt Stevens (Galletta’s #33), Wes Stevens (Galletta’s #4), Joe Miller (Galletta’s #9), and Dick Dann (Dann #86) in last with a flat tire.

Nick Dann wins his 1st feature of his 3-year karting career!
Wavin’ Nick Dann (AKA “Chris Griffin” in the Dann #68) led every lap from his handicap pole sitting position to win his first feature race of his three year career! All people familiar with Galletta’s karting were thrilled for Nick! He was followed by is dad, Dick Dann (Dann #86); Chris Stevens (Galletta’s #8); Matt Stevens (Galletta’s #33); Wesley Stevens (Galletta’s #4); Russ Hockey (Hockey #00); Gary Miller (Miller #24 DNF – handling); and Joe Miller (Galletta’s/Miller #9 – DNS – Joe had to leave before the Feature began). Now here are the updated points standings, although the 6.5hp karts have their own division now, they are still counted in the races that they did complete.

After the show, when we got the money that we previously agreed to divide evenly, Dick Dann utterly refused and kept the winnings for himself. Chris, Matt, Wes, Russ and Gary were pretty pissed off, but Dick said he didn’t have any money and he deserved the winnings. We figure it’s okay, because Dick doesn’t have enough money to race professionally, the money would help him keep his two karts barely running weekly with us and he certainly wouldn’t lie to us, right? Oh, wait…

Galletta's Kartway of Oswego, NY 7/6/2008 start

Next Race-> The Independence Day 50 was held on July 6th, 2008 at Galletta’s Kart Club at John J. Galletta Memorial Kartway. ->

Our next race at Oswego Kartway on July 10th, 2008. Want to join us?
We will need renters and/or visiting 5hp karts to join us in order to race at Oswego, so please contact us. Though we have our own motors now, we still need regular drivers to fill the karts. On the 7/4/2008 race, we had FIVE Galletta’s karts with competitive motors sitting idle in the heat and SIX sitting idle in the feature (two with special race cam handicap motors for heavier drivers over 200 lbs. and went unused). With all those racers and race fans in attendance,
and only a $5 price tag for using them, it is hard to believe nobody wanted to drive them. If anybody is interested in filling a kart on Thursdays at Oswego or Sundays at Galletta’s, contact us. You will not ever get the opportunity to sit in a racing vehicle of any type and be given a competitive car for a more affordable price than a Galletta’s 5hp race.

[Well… seeing how he, just a few short years later, abandoned our races entirely, joined classes where he put a few grand into his machines every year and won many races, in hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have pulled our punches on our pass attempts and tried harder to pass the Dann team. We enjoyed the feel good moment for the father-son duo, and were proud of them until in hindsight those events happened. So much for friendship in sports, I guess. Even backstabbery in go-kart races though? He  wouldn’t backstab us ever again, would he? Naaahhh. He’s a stand-up guy. Must be the influence of his admitted cheat idiot sasquatch-gut buddy who lives vicariously through his son’s racing in the kiddie classes. Stay classy Mexico area racers!]
