6/12/2005 – Mark Miller Leads the OHV Invasion & Dominates the 14-Kart Field!

Welcome! We are a Dirt Go-Karting Club that races for a Points championship every Sunday from June-thru-August & every weekend from September-thru-October since the early 1990s, counting points since 1996, and online since 2005!  We race gas-only stock 5-horsepower class at Galletta's Greenhouse's not-for-profit/race-at-your-own-risk Go-Kart Speedway, and a gas-only 8hp-and-less Yard Kart summer Thursdays at Oswego Speedway's Clay Dirt Oval. Always looking for new drivers to join us! Serious racers only!

JUNE 12th, 2005, OSWEGO KARTING LEAGUE - The invasion of the 5.5hp OHV motors began this hot, humid, and sweaty week. Mark Miller (in his Briggs 5.5hp OHV-powered #00/007) marched off with the win after starting from his 6th place and dominated the final twenty-nine laps that he led.

Wesley James "TrOgre" Stevens (in the Galletta's #4)  had his best race in nearly a year finishing a strong second place and keeping fairly close to the leader, a feat that is rare for the old gray-haired veteran.

Matt Stevens (in his Galletta's #3) passed his ailing brother Chris Stevens (in his Galletta's #8 kart) late in the race for third. Chris was feeling sharp pains from the sore ribs and back (that he suffered via last week's wreck) and barely held off  from last week's winner, Ed Maynes (in his #18) for fourth.

However, the early stages of the race saw a severe accident that took out the early front-runners. Gary Miller (in the Galletta's rental #0 featuring a brand-new Fun-Power Briggs 5hp engine) led the first eleven laps before spinning in front of 1st-time driver Mike Billion (in his Briggs 5.5hp OHV-powered #57), causing Mike's kart to vault into the air, landing on Adam Barlow (in the Galletta's rental #1). Adam suffered a blow from a tire to the face and chest, and was too shaken up to continue the race. A string of bad luck for Adam, as he also had some nasty wrecks late last season. He never came back. The #1 also suffered a severely bent steering wheel from taking the brunt of the #57's weight, leading many people to believe that the #1 kart may be cursed due to the long history of the kart getting into some nasty accidents dating back to when Chris and Matt's cousin, Brian Galletta used to drive it into the Race Tower years past. The accident took both Adam and Mike out of the race.

Several regular competitors believe that the new visiting OHV karts are built far too heavy, and the horsepower clearly far more than the Galletta's Box Stock Briggs 5hp flatheads and wonder if their motors should have their own class. A few drivers vowed never to return because of the OHVs. Nevertheless, everybody loves more competition, so the rule is to allow them for at least this season and re-evaluate in September.
