JUNE 19th, 2005 - OSWEGO KARTING LEAGUE AT GALLETTA'S GREENHOUSE -
Matt Stevens (in his Galletta's #3) got his first win of the year today but it wasn't easy. First he had to follow Neil Gosch (and his brand new #44), as he dominated while leading laps four through twenty before the #44 broke down for the night. Then Matt had to ward off the charges of last week's winner, Mark Miller (in his #007). Mark had actually passed Matt late in the race, but rightly relinquished the lead because he accidentally bumped the #3 out of the spot as he lost control of his #007 in turns three and four.
Chris Stevens began the race in his Galletta's #8 kart, but when his chain gave way he hopped behind the wheel of the Galletta's #1. He was able to mount an impressive charge and reel in the battling leaders Matt and Mark -- even passing them both in one turn -- but couldn't hold on.
Late in the race, a wreck in turn two took Mark and Chris out of the lead and gave Mike Billion (in his #57) the opportunity to take 2nd place, holding off Wesley, Mark, and Chris.
This week brought the debut of two more brand-new karts in addition to Neil's. Brian Bortel debuted his own #15 kart this week, but a violent barrel-rolling flip in practice followed by setup problems parked him for the evening after three laps in the lead. Mark's son, Shane Miller also debuted his new #32 kart, but also had to retire early due to engine problems. However, the week saw a shortened field due to it being Father's Day, and several drivers didn't show up for the event.
