8/25/2013 - Matt Stevens Triumphs in Galletta's Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74 at the "War of Attrition & No-Shows 25" Shortened Event! SUNDAY, AUGUST 25th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY -  Usually, late Summer at our fine backyard speedway in out 18 seasons of point racing and 20+ seasons of racing in general, we hit a late-Summer/early-Fall rut. This week was the case. Rut hit. Various events (golf tourneys, g@y vampire TV shows that absolutely cannot be missed at 9pm, work, whining-about-not-starting-on-time-but-never-showing-on-time, and broken karts) caused our show to go from an expected 10+ kart Twin-35 night to a 7-kart 25 lapper. Almost 8, but then that g@y vampire show couldn't be DVR'ed! Even though we only had 7 karts on track the racing was exciting. Even if the webmaster and points leader was pretty damn miffed about being bumped out of precious point-scoring positions for the second week in a row - first by a friend last weekend and then (see pic) by his own brother this weekend! *Sigh* Still, in hindsight, despite the small show, the racing was quite good, as we almost had a 1st-time winner (Branden "Tumor" Matott, who blew up his drive-wheel system while leading), and almost a 2-in-a-row-winner (Eric Woolworth, who also broke in the lead after his brother did). But that tricky Matt Stevens won, even if he had to resort to some rough riding on his own bro to get his first win in over a month. But one thing is neat... the Galletta's Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74 finally found victory lane after three full seasons of rebuilds, changes, tweaks, and different motors befor it finally has become a feature-race winning machine at Galletta's (although it won at other tracks, including Oswego).   More details are on the race page coming soon! TWIN 35 #1, SINGLE 30-LAP FEATURE, SINGLE 25-LAP FEATURE

Start: 1st. Branden “Toomer” Matott (Inkings Tattoo/Woodchuck Saloon #781) 2nd. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c)* 3rd. Randy Platt (Brian Galletta/Plattnum #13) 4th. Brian Galletta* (Brian Galletta/Plattnum #28) 5th. Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #88) 6th. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74) 7th. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #8) 8th. Melissa Stevens (Scissors n' Fur #19) * = Did Not Start (Due to leaving over late start) The race's late start due to the lack of active drivers showing up late (and sometimes not at all) has once again pissed all parties involved off. Three to five regular drivers did not show up at the intended race time of 5:30pm when the track was getting watered for the race. Due to this, two drivers that did show had karts that were not ready to race, and we spent two hours fixing them because... well... we had nobody to race with and had to wait to even have our cutoff of at least eight drivers making a race. In addition, Chris (webmaster, racer, stat-guy, race organizer) and his wife Aou (tower angle camera person) got home from work at 5:30pm to see only a few people here for the start of the race, and thus Chris resumed getting his page and points caught up on this very website you are reading. When the race was ready to start (it would up being closer to 7:50pm than 5:30pm), one of the drivers (who said nothing as we worked on all the karts, his included) also left. And, one of the drivers who was golfing, showed up to watch the race and flag, but not race. Well, since we started the day with 8 drivers (and lost 1, then gained 1 who didn't run), we decided to run. 9 drivers did show, but 2 who did not race (one left early and one came late and watched), and 1 who pulls off on lap 1 (for points because she is pregnant).  We planned Twin-35s and were ready to roll them out, 7 drivers only... so be it. Nine drivers were in attendance for the twin-35s, and seven raced. Hard. photo 2013-08-25-feat1_zps539e77f6.jpg Branden "Tumor" Matott has struggled all year with slow and/or breaking karts. This race looked to be the end of it, as he was a rocket in 1st place as all of the other competitors passed each other back and forth behind him, but Tumor had the lead to himself! Everybody (who showed) had fun. photo 2013-08-25-feat2_zpsf0e72b2f.jpg Brian Galletta was loose as hell in his refurbished #28, as the setup was clearly off. Here Chris and Matt Stevens battle back and forth in back of their cousin until Brian had enough with it and had to park the kart for safety concerns. Every racer (on our track and every other track in the world) is great and raced hard and flawlessly. photo 2013-08-25-feat3_zps32962ada.jpg Matt got by Brian and went after The Flying Tumor, followed by the others (including Eric Woolworth and Randy Platt). Nobody reads the website, so look at the neat picture of the close racing and that's that. photo 2013-08-25-feat4_zps81b9ece7.jpg Matt actually jumped the gun on one restart, pulled up and several competitors got by him. Tumor again was able to take off, but not for long. Unfortunately, Tumor's streak of bad luck once again reared its ugly head, as his chain, hub, wheel, and sprocket shattered into a dozen or so pieces in turn 3.  Oh, and his gas cap, for some weird reason, wasn't on either. He looked good until the mechanical failure took him out. At the same time, we lost another driver to a family concern, so we were now down to three. Wait, I was also told that nobody cares about the pictures and their captions, so nevermind. Wait... one more. photo 2013-08-25-feat-chris-mad-a_zpse9874b3b.jpg For the second week in a row, points-leader Chris Stevens emerged in 2nd place and trying to track down the leader (Eric Woolworth), with his brother (Matt Stevens) behind him. However, for the 2nd week in a row, Chris was rammed from behind and then passed by his brother - with whom he is in yet another epic point battle with. Last week, it was a racer who got terribly offended that his bumps were pointed out on the website, so we won't mention his name here. But this time, his brother did the honors. After getting knocked out of the main groove, Chris then flipped his brother off as he passed him (note he did not cut him off and cause a potentially dangerous crash like SOME people would do). On the next caution (for Eric Woolworth, who broke while leading and then hopped into his backup), Chris then rammed his bro and let him know that he did not appreciate getting rammed out of position for the 2nd week in a row. The bros exchanged some heated words and plenty of f-bombs, but resumed the race. Chris being mad at being rammed out of his spoint, do note that Chris did not exact revenge and ram his brother out of the lead. Just think about that. There. Now... Nobody reads the website, so screw the pictures too. Due to only 3 karts remaining, starter Wesley Stevens decided to shorten the race to a SINGLE 25-LAPPER, despite what Chris wanted to change it to, a single 30-lapper. Chris had enough at all of this - after working like hell to get the points done, website updated, and then having only 9 drivers, only 7 start a race, then losing precious point positions by getting bumped two weeks in a row, only having 3 drivers finish the race AND getting gypped out of the last few laps, he stormed off the track and was done with the whole thing, which was crap from the get-go due to a bunch of people who complain about not starting on time, then stop racing completely, leaving us high and dry with a dozen or more fast-and-feature-winning karts AT THE TRACK and unused on race day. Apparently, which he didn't know at the time, the driver who didn't race was actually cheering for two brothers to actually get into a fistfight over the bumps (cheering for one brother to beat up the other brother), then got wicked mad after misreading last weekend's page pointing out his dangerous habit of ramming people in turn 1, and has taken himself out of our races, with apparently some unexpectedly really hard feelings for Chris and even including some somewhat thinly-veiled threats. Oh well, he's not the first. Safety, who the fuck cares. Let's ram all day when we get passed, if people get hurt, oh well, if people get mad, cheer for fistfights to occur. Except Matt, let him go. Yay Matthew! Best ever... whoops, sorry pay track guys, shucks golly, you all are all swell too! [Side Note: I keep getting told by people that pointing out that we are just as good as any pay track driver yet race for a fraction of the cost that they do is insulting to pay track drivers, who apparently have delusions of arrogance over what they do. Pull up your diapers and race us then if you don't agree. I keep hearing them say they have "real karts", but I never see them have "real balls" and show up to race us, now do I? Meanwhile, been there; won that. We raced at the local pay track that they are so proud of for three years, forced to run against BIGGER motors, ignored on their website and speedway publications despite actually making logos  and banners for it, and we STILL swept the podium spots in the first THREE track Championships (2006, 2007, 2008) and first TWO Classics (2007, 2008) in our gas kart division there, only to be barred by the track operator, erased from their website despite being the biggest class there for most of the first THREE years of the track, and mocked/threatened by pussies who used fake names on the internet to bash/threaten us. Nice. If anyone has a problem with Chris and Matt stating that we are the #1 and #2 winningest karters in Oswego County, show up and try to beat us. We know you won't, so... silence, bitches. We know why you talk. It's ok. All talk, no walk. Enough already. Keep your pride and race your overpriced/overrated cookie cutter karts. Thanks.] Finish: 1st. Nobody cares about the points. The points are deleted. Races cancelled. Not enough people show, the people who do show need karts worked on, and we are to be blamed because we help them out. Let Matt win, ram anybody else. Point race is concluded. Videos, done. Everyone shows up late, blame the guy who organizes the whole thing because he was last on track after organizing the whole thing AFTER he worked all day, and threaten him, that's cool.

EDIT... Okay, so I changed my mind...

Okay... so... although I was quite stunned/shocked/sad/mad/insulted/devastated/depressed about being somewhat betrayed and verbally attacked by someone who I thought was a friend and racer for most of the week, I decided to add up the points. I figured it would be selfish of me to throw a big temper tantrum, take my ball and go home, and several people (albeit less than earlier in the year) are depending on my work to keep the club running smoothly from the statistical end, otherwise a bunch of guys (and a girl) would just be meaninglessly running in circles (at least we're meaninglessly running in circle for points this way). Besides, it's not very often where anybody can be leading in points and wins at this point of the season, like I am, to throw it away because someone surprisingly doesn't like me and decided to take offense and blow up on someone at a few innocent pictures and their captions. Or was it that we were getting out late and I was blamed despite the fact that I never had to work on my kart for hours. We also feel that if Dave feels like this is a reason to be angry, verbally express a physical threat (saying that HE can ram CHRIS, but if CHRIS rammed HIM BACK, there would be some kind of confrontation and implied that it would may be a physical one!? Okay, that's logical...), and QUIT the club, then there is nothing we can do about it. Nobody ever called him out nor kicked him out, but if he cannot control his anger or his kart enough to not ram people who pass him clean, maybe he should not race karts until his anger issues and kart handling issues are corrected. If he feels that the late starts are a reason (due to late arrivals, no-shows, and drivers who need an hour or two to have their karts race ready) to be extremely angry and blast the club co-founders/co-racers, one of which is the head mechanic/track operator, and the other who is the statistician/video producer/webmaster/promoter/organizer, then, again, there is nothing we can do. The club runs on both Matt and Chris' contributions, but it cannot run with both of the brothers AND enough drivers to join them on the track. If someone wants to get angry and quit the club and blame us for a collective problem, then, again, there is nothing we can do. He would not be the first passionate driver who quit the club for various reasons and unfortunately, he will likely not be the last one to do so, as you can see here. Well... I guess it doesn't matter. The club will go on without the guys who quit on us over start times, money, getting mad at one of us.. whatever... Here they are anyway....

Final Note on a Driver Angrily Quitting the Club:

Again, in a final note, we did not kick an above noted someone out of the track, club, or property. Someone -- whom we all respected and loved racing with, and is family to a few of our racers -- didn't like our late start times (understandable) and blamed them mostly on Chris (despite Chris not being in control of the actual race start times, that is completely Matt, and Chris only rarely slowed a race start for a few minutes), and didn't approve of Chris' race descriptions -- which included pointing out said person was (at times dangerously) bumping people and causing wrecks. It was more or less a tongue-in-cheek note that it shouldn't be done.
Number one rule at Galletta's above all else: No pass is worth getting into a crash that damages karts and possibly hurts or kills people, period. Also, threats of confrontations or violence is kinda' up there, too (which actually technically happened as well). Two big no-nos. Drivers usually all agree, and in particular the property owner and primary race sponsor is obviously extremely insistent on those things. Like, shut the whole thing down if repeated and avoidable dangerous crashes or threats happen. If ambulances or cops need to show up, something is going on that should not be going on.
In addition, Chris apologized if the race descriptions offended him and offered to edit it, but the apology was never accepted, the person insinuated much anger, used a few irrational insults, and hinted a confrontation of some sort, never came back, and the offending page was strikethroughed. All were stunned that any of this happened and most of us still don't know why it did. All of us were caught off-guard, confused, disappointed and upset at what transpired, but, again, we never once kicked said person out, and the said person could've cooled off, talked it out, came to an understanding, and came back.
Sadly, his absence was completely his own. And while the club feels saddened that we lost a passionate driver we must go on.
