6/23/2019 – Our 24th Annual Season Opener’s Twin-25 Wins Go To…

20190623_211508-Lytle-Sixbe

20190623_211508-YouTube-Th Sunday, June 23rd, 2019 – Our 24th Annual Season Opener had been postponed three weeks week for several reasons — late growing/selling season in the greenhouse, track not ready, karts not ready, driver availability was spotty, Father’s Day, and the weather (needless to say all the rain), all played their part in the delays. But conditions wound up being excellent for some Twin-25s that finally kicked off our 2019 Season! Complete Tower-cam race video and helmet-cam race videos are here!

Offseason News & Notes

In Memoriam of Paul B. Galletta Sr.

Paul Galletta Sr.

Paul Galletta Sr.

First, a very sad note to pass along. On May 16, 2019, Paul Galletta Sr. — uncle to to current and former Galletta’s racers Matt Stevens, Chris Stevens, Brian, Kevin, Timmy, Bobby and Gary Galletta, father to former club racers, Anthony and the late Paul Galletta Jr., brother to Galletta’s Greenhouse owner Mary Stevens and former club cameraman Gene Galletta, and son to the late Galletta’s Greenhouse Founder John Galletta — passed away.

Paul would occasionally watch our races and one time even raced in the 1990s before we video recorded and counted points and wins for the website. But he was probably best known as an extremely accomplished bowler (used to bowl on television in the 1980s), an avid Bingo player, a songwriter, a passionate fan of the Washington Redskins, a fan of Oswego Speedway racing and would occasionally accompany Chris and Matt there to watch races, especially Classics, where he would often crack jokes about the races.

Paul will be missed by all who knew him. Sadly, he had to go to heaven to understand how much we cared about him, but we fully believe he is there now with family that was there waiting for him, including his son, his parents, and the Lord. His surviving family is in our thoughts and prayers. God bless.

Visitor’s Points Fund:
For the 2019 season, R&C Sushi Bar LLC will be sponsoring a Visitor’s Points Fund. Each racer will be required to put a minimum of $1 per race into the purse. we will also do a weekly 50/50 with spectators and drivers (50% to the ticket winner, 50% to the points fund). At year’s end, after the regular Summer season and Klassic 200’s final points have been tallied, the top visiting drivers will be awarded winnings. However, if we don’t have enough drivers committed, we’ll drop the plan.

Double-File Starts:
For races with 8 or more drivers, we will do double-file starts (based on driver vote). All restarts are still single-file.

New Offseason Race Video Uploads:
As most readers know, nearly every race in our history (dating back to mid-2005) has been video recorded and uploaded to our site, sometimes years after the race. If you can think of a race with the Galletta’s Karting Club (both at Galletta’s or Oswego Kartway), chances are that we have the COMPLETE race video, it is on this site and free to view, just look it up in our archives! If we recorded it, it’s probably there! But sometimes we can’t find some (RARELY… mainly just pre-2005 races and pre-2003 Klassics). But when we do locate them, we put up years after the fact.

New videos this offseason are:

New Kart Profile Pages:
In addition to every race page and driver profile that we’ve always had on our website, we recently completed kart profiles, which can be accessed via the top banner menu! Yes, each kart in the Galletta’s Fleet has a long history and feature wins. So while some people look at them like people looked at the Millennium Falcon — like a piece of junk — they are all fast and have a proud history of wins… with competent drivers. Are you one? Show us.

NEW! Complete Helmet camera angle by Chris Stevens – Sponsored by R&C Sushi LLC!

New GoPro Helmet Cam:
R&C Sushi Bar LLC is sponsoring a GoPro helmet-cam angle for the weekly race video, on whatever kart Chris Stevens is driving. This week is the #8 in the 1st feature, and the #4 in the 2nd feature. R&C Sushi is sold at select locations on the SUNY Oswego campus every weekday when school is in session from late-August to mid-May since 2011! Now for…

Adam Lytle was able to get past the two sputtering (half-throttle) karts — the #4 of Chris Stevens and #6 of Josh Arnold — to dominate the 2nd feature for his tenth career feature win at Galletta’s. Adam is the all-time leader in visitor points and wins (seen here, last updated after each completed season).

I usually edit the race videos (when time permits me between two kids, my job and other non-racing hobbies). However, whether I do or do not get a chance to edit, I also upload the raw footage, available exclusively here. If the above embedded video playlist does not work, please feel free to view on YouTube here.
