Saturday, August 27th, 2022 – “A Crazy Lady & Her Son Called Us Gay Pussies With No Balls And Said She Was Going To Kill Us On The Track & Flipped Us Off!” Twin-20’s

Oswego, New York – Never a dull moment with the karting. Well, no, actually most of the time it’s pretty straightforward racing (when we get enough people up and start on time), but there’s been one particular crazy lady who has (on and off since around 2010-ish) made for some interesting evenings by blasting us to our karter friends, and lo-and-behold, she was caught red-handed. And boy did those birds fly, along with insults and threats! But when the drama settled down and the race started, we went 40 laps with only a single caution (for a sputtering carb). Pics, videos, and more will come soon. (Sorry, I usually have it up before the following morning, but yours truly has to work… I will do my best to update ASAP!)

HANDICAP START:

More often than not, we don’t post the handicap start order cluttering the pages, but occasionally we do as a reminder how we start each race. The formula does have a little flexibility to keep it fresh if the order is too similar every week, but 99% of the time, it goes like this:

Handicap Tier #1: Inverted Track Wins (Current Season)
Handicap Tier #2: Inverted Points-Per-Race (Current Season) *or*
Handicap Tier #3: Inverted All-Time Track Wins (3 and 4 sometimes swap if the order is the same every single week)
Handicap Tier #4: Returning Veterans (Inverted All-Time wins, PPR tie-breaker)
Handicap Tier #5: Newcomers/Rookies (Ordered Heaviest to Lightest)

  • * = Since the season has been so sparse of features thus far, the B-Main win will count in as a win for just handicapping purposes.
  • ** = Rookies/Newcomers will be handicapped by weight (heaviest to lightest)
  • *** = Returning Veterans will be handicapped at the rear of the field, then by total wins and total points tie-breaker.

Without a lot of drivers, the handicap system unfairly places multi-time winners too close to the start. This was the case today, as 2nd in All-Time wins Chris Stevens started on the front row in the Galletta’s #4 and led all 20 laps without even a single caution let alone a single challenge. Nic Olivares tried out the Galletta’s #5 tonight, and held that ever-persistent Matt in his Galletta’s #33 off for the entire race, and Andy Hook actually was able to pull off a last-second pass of the #33 piloting the Galletta’s #0! Chris always tells people how Matt is susceptible to getting passed when he so aggressively tries to pass others, and Andy did a great job capitalizing on that at the stripe.

7. DNS – Melissa Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #19)

Bad news here, as the 2nd race in a twin-feature night, is usually an invert of the 1st (with the exception of multi-winners start in the rear no matter what). And here, just like Chris started too close to the front in the 1st as he hadn’t won yet this season, Matt starts too close to the front in the 2nd due to not only his poor finish in the 1st race, but only two rookies starting in front of him. The key is: We need more drivers! The more competition, the better! Nic switched to the #1, Andrew to the #78.

Unedited Stationary Camera (Rear Turn)

Boring, for archival, and mostly multi-angle editing purposes only.

Lance was prodded by his fellow karters during the intermission to race harder this one and boy did he!!! He held Matt off for a large portion of the race and was in the top 2 spots for almost all of it. Inexplicably, he lost a few spots on the only restart (for Chris when the #4 stalled out due to a bad sputtering problem — either carb or electrical; he then hopped into the #8). Nic ran in the top 3 all race until he got passed by both Andy and Chris at the stripe, with something going wrong on the #1 on the last lap. 1st-time driver at Galletta’s Camden Fix loved it and seemed to be picking it up, staying in 2nd on track (although a lap down to Matt).

8. Travis Bartlett (Kraken Racing #39)

Sadly, Travis Bartlett was busy with emergency work in his home and missed his 1st points show since he started racing at Galletta’s, which stung his 2nd place standing in the ’22 Point Standings! However, because Travis was at the track for a handful of weeks (both helping the club greatly working with the karts, track, and track work vehicles AND ready to race without enough fellow competitors showing up), we have awarded him a preemptive makeup race credit. He and Andy actually are owed a few of these for their work when they were the only drivers who showed for a few weeks this season.

September 2nd-4th, 2022 – Race Postponed [Labor Day Weekend; Not Enough Drivers]

This time of year it gets trickier scheduling races. We usually race on Summer Sundays because on most Summer Saturdays many of our drivers watch or participate in the local races at Oswego Speedway (which being fans of greatly inspired us in our own backyard races from pedal carts to go-karts since we are kids). But come Fall Sundays, between the return of NFL Football (most of us are avid fans), and Chris (this club’s racer/webmaster/points statistician/video producer) and his wife Rung (head camera woman) getting back to work, we try and schedule Friday or Saturdays. But with Oswego Speedway’s Classic Weekend and other Labor Day festivities, we once again just couldn’t get enough drivers to agree on a race day at all, so we postponed. The next race should be this Saturday. And we are running out of weekends to get races in, folks! Hell, if we don’t get more races, (our head kart & track maintenance man) Matt says that it’s going to be difficult to even schedule our annual 200-Lap Klassic! So… Let’s go!
