July 24th, 2022 – “Newcomers 15 & Regular 25 Lappers”

SUNDAY, JULY 24th, 2022, Oswego, New York – We had a packed show with several relative newcomers who raced a 15-Lap B-Main event, and then a few of them joined in with the veterans for the regularly scheduled race. Young Oswego Speedway hot shoe Logan Crisafulli took the B-Main, and then led most of the regular feature after starting in the 2nd row, but that crafty Galletta’s veteran Matt Stevens was able to do what he seems to always do… slip by people to win the 25-Lap 2nd Feature. We had a lot of drivers and a lot of footage to go through! Let’s dig in!

The evening started with newcomers who populated a 15-Lap B-Main Qualifier. Now while they’re technically rookies at Galletta’s, they had prior racing experience, including two of which are successful young racers at Oswego Speedway.

Newcomers Practice & 15-Lapper [Rear-Turn Angle]

Newcomer Practice, Rear Turn angle.

Rear Turn angle of the B-Main

We have more action than seen above, and victory photos, but between being tired from the race and loss of internet, we were only able to get the rookies/newcomers practice and feature from the rear-turn angle up Sunday Night/Monday Morning, and more all week long.

The newcomer group did lag on a bit with a few cautions but wound up being a good show all things considered. Logan Crisafulli made his way to the lead twice (after blowing blue smoke out of the exhaust and having to come back from the rear after a short timeout) to win the B-Main.

15-Lap *20-Lap B-Main Qualifier – Finish

  1. (R) Logan Crisafulli (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #78)
  2. (R) Hunter Lawton Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #7)
  3. (R) Austin Carroll (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #1)
  4. (R) Devon Tonkin (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #5, 0)
  5. (R) Tucker Wells (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #43)
  6. (R) Aiden Caroccio (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #33c)
  7. (R) Kaleb Fravor (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #6)
  8. DNF – (R) Tyler Thompson (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #2)
  9. DNF – (R) Ethan Hotaling (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #9)
  10. DNF – (R) Alex Vescio (Galletta’s Greenhouse Racing #93)

* = Counting the laps via the videos, it appears that we went 20 green. The points were updated as a 20-Lap scoring event instead of a 15-Lap scoring event accordingly. At Galletta’s, if the leader gets out of the rear turns before the caution is waved, we count that lap as green (due to the track conditions being less than ideal and kart wear because of it). Exceptions can be made for the final lap, which must finish green.

15-Lap Newcomers & 25-Lap Regulars – Full Event [Tower Angle]

The whole event from the OswegoSushi.com Racetower angle.

At Galletta’s, every driver who enters a heat, makeup race, or B-Main is counted as “started” in an accompanying feature. So while 6 out of the 10 drivers in the B-Main left before the A-Main feature started, they are credited at the end of the field in the same order they finished the B-Main. Usually, we put relative newcomers in the back for thier 1st race, then work them into the handicap start for when they come back again in any following weekend, but since we only had 4 veterans racing (Chris, Matt, Nic, and Travis), and the four are experienced racers (Hunter, Ethan, Tyler, and Logan), we voted to waive this rule and started them in front!

25-Lap Regular Point Feature – Starting Lineup

ERRATA:

  • Apparently, in the 2nd feature, Tucker Wells hopped onto the #7 in the A-Main after starting in the #43 in the B-Main. It was initially scored as Hunter Lawton, who started the B-Main in the #7. It is now corrected.

25-Lap Regular Feature [Helmet Camera Angle]

The 25-Lap Feature from Chris Stevens’ OswegoSushi.com GoPro Helmet-cam.

Notes:

  • The racing was pretty impressive, with Logan Crisafulli setting a fast pace despite a rough racing surface (and only a few races on the track), but Matt Stevens was able to perfectly time a pass attempt and hold on for his 1st win of the season, which prevented what would’ve been the fourth 1st time winner in five features this year!
  • Oswego Supermodified Classic 200 winner Tyler Thompson was strong — (after mechanical problems [pull cord] took him out of the B-Main), moving up to third after he capitalized on Chris Stevens getting rocked by a bump — but then stalled the #2 when attempting a pass on the #78 Crisafulli late. The caution did not fly, which cost him a shot at regaining lost spots.
  • Speaking of that… 2-Week Points leader Travis Bartlett also lost position and points, as the #39’s steering wheel came off in turn 3 in the early going. But he was able to salvage and get back to 5th in the #93 and still retain 2nd in the points (to that tricky, tricky Matt who just took the points lead with tonight’s feature).
  • All the newcomers did well, but Thompson and Crisafulli in particular both showed their big track experience in racing toe-to-toe with the veteran drivers — we LOVE that stuff and hope they come back as often as possible! The wiley old karting legend Matt himself said if they got more experience on the track they’d be extremely difficult to deal with.
  • Counting the laps via the videos, it appears that we went 30 green. The points were updated as a 30-Lap scoring event instead of a 25-Lap scoring event accordingly.

The live stream footage did get saved this week (last week it seems to have been lost…).

Although we had an action-packed race, the following three weeks were… not so much…

July 31st, 2022 – Harboremess Championship ’22 Race Cancelled [Not Enough Drivers]

SUNDAY, July 31st, 2022, Oswego, New York – Apparently the raw and unbridled excitement of Oswego’s premier event to shock the world and universe was too much to squeeze in a race at Galletta’s, folks. That’s right… between the karts and track taking a bit of a beating from the prior weekend’s newcomers along with not enough available drivers and the annual festival in the city below us, we took the weekend off. See you next week!!!!

August 7th, 2022 – Race Postponed [Not Enough Drivers]

SUNDAY, August 7th, 2022, Oswego, New York – Apparently the conditions were too hot, as the track was ready, karts were ready, but sadly not enough drivers showed. In fact, only 5, and our minimum is 7. We will try again possibly mid-week or next weekend.

August 14th, 2022 – Race Postponed [Not Enough Drivers]

SUNDAY, August 14th, 2022, Oswego, New York – The air was PERFECT for a top-notch night of racing, as a practice session proved that the motors were FAST! The track was ready, karts were ready, but sadly… yet again, for the third weekend in a row, not enough drivers showed. Our minimum of 7 drivers fell woefully short with only 4 (that means only a single regular driver made it, Andrew Hook, who picked up a makeup race heat victory credit). We will try again possibly mid-week or next weekend, but we are running out of Summer fast!

August 20th, 2022 – ERRATA & UPDATES:

Here are a few things to update the points.

  • Apparently, in the 2nd feature on 7/24/2022, Tucker Wells hopped onto the #7 after starting in the #43 in the B-Main. It was initially scored as Hunter Lawton, who started the B-Main in the #7. It is corrected below.
  • Andrew Hook was the only visiting driver who came out to race on a PERFECT race evening on 8/14/2022. He helped with track work and took some warmup laps, and was awarded makeup points for the equivalent of if he was able to make the 7/24/2022’s A-Main Feature and scored last on track, and ahead of everyone who completed more than a lap. The updated points are as follows:
