Labor Day Weekend ’22 – Race Postponed [Not Enough Drivers + Labor Day Festivities]

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, September 2nd-4th, 2022 – As one can see scrolling through this season’s schedule so far, we have only had 4 race events out of the last 10 weekends since the ’22 GKC Season kicked off. Why? No other reason than we have had a hard time getting enough racers to meet the minimum requirements to have a race. It used to be 12, 10, 8 drivers, and hell, we even dropped it to 5 or 6 drivers! But 4? That’s just 1 visiting guest driver! That’s like how we ran in the 1990s when it all began with two brothers and maybe their dad or a friend or cousin over!

Saturday, September 10th, 2022 –  Since we were running out of weekends to race and the track was watered, we went ahead and ran a 3-kart race (a 4th started and dropped out after a lap). It’ll be for bonus points and not a full-fledged feature (although after the season’s end, we may flip it into one if we flat out don’t get very many more races — something we had to do in 2014 and 2018, the last two times that we had this much trouble getting enough drivers to have weekly races). Early on, Andrew Hook pulled away in the Galletta’s #0, but when it developed a slow air leak in the left rear drive tire, Chris and Matt caught back up. However, Chris (Galletta’s #4) attempted a pass in the rear turn of the final lap and nailed a bump in turn 3, which enabled Matt Stevens (Galletta’s #33) to steal 2nd at the line.

The complete race went smoothly enough that the tower angle recorded by Rung Stevens was uploaded without the need for an edit.

Week #11: Saturday, September 17th, 2022 – Postponed (Not Enough Drivers).

We will be trying again Sunday, September 18th, 2022, however, completely dependent on (1) visiting driver attendance (2) weather, and (3) myself and my wife — website guy, video editor, and racer Chris Stevens and the head camerawoman, my wife, Rung respectively — getting back from work on a reasonable hour, which has been quite late, so a VERY tentative chance, but we’ll try! SIKE! Not enough drivers and camera people again!

Week #12: Saturday, September 24th, 2022 – Postponed (Not Enough Drivers).

Week #13: Saturday, October 2nd, 2022 – Postponed (Not Enough Drivers).

Possible Klassic date or Klassic Prep date, it wound up being neither due to lack of available drivers.

Week #14: Saturday, October 8th, 2022 – Postponed (Not Enough Drivers + Bad Weather + Work Schedules + Sick).

The original date for the 26th Klassic was postponed due to bad weather (very wet and cold), and driver attendance (a handful of drivers are under the weather and sick, and/or unable to attend), pushing our rain-date towards next Saturday.

We have only raced feature races on 4 of 14 possible race weekends, and ONLY ONE was missed because of the weather. All were missed due to not enough visiting drivers attending, leaving 2-4 drivers without enough for a points feature race. Where is everybody?
