2006 Race #3 @ Galletta’s Backyard Speedway Results:
Sunday, 06/25/2006
The first thirteen laps took forever to complete, as they were caution-filled thanks mostly to the inexperienced rookie drivers. Opening lap was no exception, as it saw a massive pileup in the 2nd turn. Afterwards, the rookie drivers then angrily whined for their entrance and kart rental money donations back due to a lack of completed laps, but seemed to overlook the fact that they caused most of the cautions and caused costly damage to the karts. This has forced Chris to institute a new “Heat qualifier” race for rookies only, and if they cannot complete the heat without wrecking and/or breaking, then they will not be allowed to race in the feature event with the experienced drivers.
Last week’s winner, Gary Miller (#24), didn’t have the same luck, as he found things a little tougher when you don’t start on the pole with a points handicap. Early on he was pressured and then passed by Chris and Matt Stevens, then Matt somehow mysteriously spun-out. Gary then stormed off the track due to the amount of cautions. The constant arguing over the amount of cautions and repair breaks has led to a new time-limit system to be discussed and voted on by the drivers. The system would give more time for drivers in the thick of the points race, but rookie drivers who are not competitive will not have as much repair time allotted to them.
(Left) The caution that Gary and Matt collided in also caused another accident. At the time, the race was led by another handicapped rookie driver named Derek Woodworth who saw the caution, but then slowed up too quickly by slamming on the brakes and caused several karts to check up. This chain reaction saw Ogre then catching a tire and slamming into a tree. Thankfully, with a used Supermodified tire in front of it, he was not injured. (Right) Rick Maynes (#9) and Jason Mills (#6) battle near the front.

After Jason Mills (#6) retired with carb pickup problems, the battle for the final twenty-seven laps saw Chris Crusher Stevens (#8) followed by Ed Maynes (#43) and Matt Stevens (#3). The battle for second was particularly furious as Matt kept getting runs on Ed, but couldn’t get the pass.
The final lap saw Chris “ChrusherComix” a pull away from Ed Maynes and Matt Stevens to get an impressive victory and take a slim lead in the point standings.

Galletta’s Karting Club @ Oswego Speedway Exhibition #1
– Friday, June 23rd 2006:
Oswego Speedway’s dirt track (2005 pic) where we race once per week June-August!
On Friday, June 23rd 2006, a handful of the Galletta’s Go-Kart Association ventured to the Oswego Speedway and put on an exhibition that had a 10-lap heat and a 20-lap feature with our limited modification Racing Yard Karts (right-turn, motors must be gas, stock carb, stock motors but w/shaved heads allowed). Matt Stevens, Chris Stevens, Gary Miller, Wesley “Ogre” Stevens, Brian Bortel, Robbie Jimenez and Josh Schute put on a great show, had a great time, and we plan to be back every week with more drivers and karts. Matt won both the heat and the feature – passing Gary Miller on the last lap, but it didn’t count for points. Also there are a fledgling amount of WKA-spec methanol kart classes. We are more than happy to help support the track as a stable, 10-16 kart “affordable” pump gas, stock motor class, as it gives us a secondary track to run, maybe entice some new drivers to join us, and also show off that our veteran drivers are just as good as any other karting class around as well. For more info, go to the Speedway’s official site here (the track would later go on to be named “Oswego Kartway” in 2008). We later went back and counted all of these drivers and races for separate Oswego Points here. Now, onto next Sunday’s point race at Galletta’s….
DVD is available for $5.
