Galletta's Karting Club

(formerly the Dick Dann #86, the Tim Galletta #54, the Dave Spanfelner #54, and Josh Arnold #93) is known as the winningest big-man kart in the fleet. Countless drivers over +6′ and +200 lbs. have scored many victories in it!

The kart’s long history and many owner/drivers

The 1st appearance to our club during the 2006 Season, was as the Dick Dann #86, which was believed to originally be an antique converted racing kart. Dick drove it steadily from 2006-08 at both Galletta’s and Oswego Kartway. While he picked up a couple of wins at Galletta’s, he never could quite figure out how to get it to handle at Oswego… until at the club’s last race there, as it did net the fastest time-trial in a Gas Stocker Kart at Oswego Kartway in the 2008 Classic (albeit with a previously unapproved racing carburetor).

When Dick jumped ship for the local pay track karting in 2009 (so he could invest more money into his kart than our “affordability first” club allowed), he sold the kart to Chris and Matt’s cousin Tim Galletta in 2010 who numbered it #54. After a significant rebuild (from his uncle Wes Stevens) for Tim’s 6’4″ frame, he raced full-time and scored a handful of wins between 2010-11 until a job change forced him to move to the Carolinas.

It was next sold to Tim’s friend and then-D.S. Humphries owner Dave Spanfelner, who also won a few races in it between 2012-13, which again proved the kart can win with even bigger guys. Sadly, like Dann, Spanfelner also abruptly quit the club for the local pay track racing (his reasons were different — mainly having a problem with our inconsistent scheduling and some of this website’s race descriptions) and put it up for sale.

Another of Chris and Matt’s cousins, Brian Galletta purchased it in 2014 so that he and his brother Kevin could run in as the Galletta Bros. #54. Sadly, Brian didn’t get a chance to race it much, as the various health conditions he had his entire life, a fall down a flight of stairs, and some legal issues collectively forced him into early retirement from racing in 2015.

The kart then was sold to Josh Arnold before the 2016 season, who gave it a complete makeover from the yellow-and-black #54 to its now visage as the black-and-teal #93. Josh had it running up front weekly and scoring a handful of wins between 2016-19.

In 2020, Josh sold the kart to Chris and Matt Stevens to spend more time with his wife and kids, now making it a full-time Galletta’s Greenhouse House Kart, best suited for taller drivers. And since Chris and Matt never sell karts, it is available to be rented and raced weekly.
