8/5/2007 – 17 Large, Dick Dann Penetrates the Threshold of Victory Lane after flipping on his head, wins 17-kart/45-Lap 10,000 Rocks-To-Win race! (+YouTube)
Galletta’s 2007 Race #10: 8/5/2007 45-Lapper:
Surviving a 1st lap flip onto a woman’s backside, a seemingly concussed Dick Dann (in his Dickhead-Destroyer #86) penetrates Victory Lane to become the winner of the Mr. Galletta Speedway’s 10,000 Rocks-to-Win 2007 (He is joined here by his teammate/son, Nick Dann). 17-drivers large, Mr. Dann proved to be a hard Dick to pass in the largest attending driver event in Galletta’s Speedway history. Two extremely violent and scary wrecks occurred (and will be sure-fire hits on YouTube and this site).
2007 Volume #10 DVD:
Contains the August 2nd, 2007 races from Oswego Speedway, and the August 5th, 2007 races at Galletta’s. Each view is from two angles on each track. Contains two angles of every Galletta’s Karting Club race on both Oswego Kartway and Galletta’s Greenhouse Backyard Speedway that this website chronicles, plus at least one angle of the pricier, but smaller methanol classes on the Oswego Speedway dirt track (that do not have their own points chases nor records). 2 hours & 21 minutes.
Here’s a preview of the contents of this disc:

With the unprecedented amount of 1st-time rookie-rental drivers, we had to hold two elimination heats to determine who could qualify for the feature. The first heat was won by Jesse Vivlemore (Galletta’s #5) and was followed by Andy Noto (Galletta’s/Kelly #9), Russ Hockey (Galletta’s #7), and Lil’ Ken Lindsey (Galletta’s #1) did not qualify due to too many cautions and a DNF.
The second heat was won by Buddy Cottom (Galletta’s #6). He was followed by Big Ken Lindsey (Galletta’s #2), Ryan Coleman (Galletta’s #0), and Richard Hockey (Galletta’s/Kelly-Mobile #9). The last two did not qualify due to to not enough rental karts available, though they raced well enough to get in if we simply had more karts. If they came any other week, they’d make the show! All of these rookies were very good and we’d love for them to all come back often!
The third heat was a doozy! All of the attending veterans were placed in a whopping 9-man, 10-lap heat! And man, did we put on a tremendous show! Nick Dann (Dick-Destroyer #68) took his pole position and held off a few challenges to take his second heat of his young career. He was followed by Matt (Galletta’s #33) and Chris Stevens (Galletta’s #8), MC Howell (Galletta’s #6), Kyle Reuter (Galletta’s #0), Dick Dann (Dick-Destroyer #86), Wes Stevens (Galletta’s #4), Melissa Gabel (Galletta’s #3), and Gary Miller Sr. (Miller #24). When Nick was asked why he was so fast, he responded, “I just can’t help it.”
Early on, the first lap was filled with some horrible accidents and had to be re-tried a few times, mirroring the Mr. SBS show the night before at Oswego. First, Dick Dann crashed hard in turn 1 and landed upside down on top of Melissa Gabel. Both were OK, but Dick was shaken up and damaged his helmet on Melissa’s motor, one of Matt’s back-ups.
BIG OL’ DICK DANN FLIPS VIOLENTLY! BREAKS HELMET! TAKES A BANG AND THEN COMES BACK TO PENETRATE VICTORY’S LANE FOR THE WIN!
Boy that big Dick can take a lick! And keep banging!
The next attempt at lap one was even more scary then that! Nobody saw that a 1st-time driver Big Ken Lindsey stall the Galletta’s #2 in a dark patch in the back straight, so nobody threw the caution flag. Going FULL-THROTTLE, a few of us missed him, but Matt slammed into him taking he and the Galletta’s #33 airborne, landing backwards on Kyle Reuter’s Galletta’s #0, putting that kart out of commission with a broken carb. At the same time, MC Howell avoided them all and flew into the woods in a comical fashion. The Galletta’s #2 was O.F.T.N. with a completely severed right rear axle & wheel. Matt hammered the drivewheel axle back into place and continued his sights on his 5th straight Galletta’s Feature. Here are two camera angles (though the quality is poor and choppy here, so buy the DVD for high quality image and sound).
Second camera angle:
Another nasty accident took out both Jesse Vivlemore and Gary Miller when the spinning rookie Buddy Cottom collected them both. Gary’s wrist was sore which forced him to retire for the evening, so Kyle Reuter then jumped into Gary’s #24. Hence, although Kyle was some laps down, he was able to pick up extra points and get some racing action in after missing all of last week’s. Here’s a video. Owch!
Crap… I must apologize. There are internet dweeb-trolls who take offense to me using the word “nasty” to describe a wreck. They look up “nasty” to see if there are video games or home porn movies featuring their women (or men). Sorry. It definitely ain’t THAT nasty!
Other than the nasty wrecks, the race was one to remember. Nick Dann was holding the lead for the first seventeen laps until his dad, Dick, jumped both he and then-2nd-place-running Chris Stevens for the lead on a restart. Ogre Stevens, Matt Stevens and MC Howell were all in hot pursuit, but Dick was too hard to pass.
Chris thought he had a little something for the #86, but when his right rear tire starting falling off, all he could do was hold off Matt and Nick until a late caution put him in the pits and he hopped into his backup #5. By then, though everybody was having some clean, smooth, and competitive racing throughout the field, Dick had the newfound horsepower to hold off Matt and take the feature win, his first ever points feature and 2nd career win (He also won a late-season non-points show in Fall 2006).

The next Galletta’s Speedway race is Sunday August 12th, 2007. Drivers not normally expected weekly need to arrive at no later than 6:15pm to secure your entrance into the events. Races start between 6:30-7:15 pm (depending on enough drivers arriving). Drivers arriving between 6:15-6:45pm will race in the 1st heat and rookie/rusty races (if necessary). Drivers arriving after 6:59pm will race the 2nd heat with Matt, so get here early.
***NOTE*** – I hope nobody was offended by the… um… er, adult innuendo/double entendre jokes on this page. The reason it was done was two-fold: (1) Dick’s son Nick inspired the gags, and (2) this website often doesn’t get much traffic just featuring our backyard karting, but got a noticeable traffic spike spike when the words “BIG DICK” and such, so I ran with it to keep the visitors satisfied. A lot of image searches from women and gay men… neither of which must enjoy backyard karting very much, because they didn’t stay. Unless it was nude. Er… ew. Not enough hot women racing with us to make that the least bit entertaining for most people, lol!
