9/1/2013 – Branden “Tumor” Matott &  Matt Stevens Win The 18th Annual Oswego Karting Labor Day Championship Twin-30s!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, 2013, OSWEGO, NY –  Another driver steps into the storied 18-year Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway winner’s circle, 1st year driver Branden “Tumor” Matott wins his 1st career feature with a 30-lap sweep in his Inkings Tattoo/Woodchuck Saloon #34.5 during the 1st feature. He was then joined by the man who has been in victory lane more than every single other driver (minus his brother) combined – Matt Stevens, as he survived several crazy entanglements en route to putting not one, but two karts into the lead (1st the Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74 – which broke a wheel hub, and then the Galletta’s Greenhouse #33) to inch a little closer to his brother Chris in both the points and wins columns. Some entertaining 9-kart races that provided a nice nightcap following Oswego Speedway’s Classic 200. More details below….

Three-wide early on and Brian Galletta got the worst of it, clobbering the wall in the front stretch.

This was the show for most of the 2nd half of the race… Tumor Matott leading, with Chris and Matt Stevens staying with him, but Tumor accomplished his 1st career feature win with an impressive performance.

TWIN 30-LAP FEATURE #2

Adam Lytle looked to do the same thing that Tumor did in the 1st feature… lead all 30 laps from his starting pole position. Here he is in the opening laps with that rabid dog Matt Stevens trying to make sure that doesn’t happen..

Rookie Ryan Palmer got a bit too high in turn 1 and crashed into our tirewall beneath the camera tower. 1st feature winner Toomer was also collected.

Matt made short work of all foes and took the lead in the #74 without much trouble. With Matt in the lead, we had a tremendous battle behind him between Adam Lytle (#33c), Eric Woolworth (#2), Chris Stevens (#0) and Brian Galletta (#28). Oddly enough, the hub broke on the #74 while he was leading, so Matt then climbed into his #33 where he blew by this group within a few laps again.  Just one of those nights were Matt couldn’t be stopped. By anybody. Yes, you too.

Despite the fact that Adam Lytle was either 1st or 2nd place for almost the entire race (and only to Matt), he was a pinball in the latter stages of the race when a very loose Eric Woolworth cracked him from one side in turn 4, and Brian Galletta cracked him on the other as they came together in the front stretch!

Adam then spun out and collected others… a rough ending to an overall good effort by Adam.
