9/18/2013 – Adam Lytle wins “A Klassic is a Comin’ 50″ Full Moon mid-week Special in the Lytle Motorsports #33c. his 1st career feature win!
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – The race that was scheduled for Sunday, September 15th, 2013 got the heats in (won by Adam Lytle in Lytle 33c and Chris Stevens in Galletta’s #5), but the feature rained out before lap 1 was completed. So, we were able to get almost all of the drivers who qualified in the heats back for a special mid-week race, and made it a 50-lap shakedown for Klassic, which may be our next race depending on weather and driver availability. And some crazy full moon incidents went down, including Matt Stevens (driving his pregnant wife’s karts) taking the lead then sputtering, Lytle passing him back, then Chris Stevens breaking tie-rods on the #5 by hitting his bro and becoming the newest entrant into the Nature Boy Club by crashing into the woods THEN having the throttle stick on the #0 and almost going BACK into the woods FROM the pit (WOW!), a few drivers breaking before the checker, and finally Lytle getting passed by Kevin Galletta, then getting him back and holding on for his 1st career win. As if you couldn’t tell with that ear to ear smile! Whew! Quite a race! And Lytle earned and deserved it, as he has run most of the schedule for 2 years and has had all kinds of freakish bad luck, late restart passes and mechanical problems take him out of near-victories before. Now, do come back soon for the race page. No… wait… it’s done now! Read on!

Sunday, September 15th, 2013 – Feature… Rained out:
The feature started as rain clouds moved overhead. The green flag dropped and there was a caution for a crazy start that bunched us up and a few tires wound up getting tied up in turn 1. With a complete restart ready to go, the rain started. It didn’t let up, and progressively got worse. Race postponed for ASAP with as many drivers possible, which wound up being…
Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 – 50-Lap Feature Event:
Lytle has been struggling to get his 1st win despite many starts on the pole since his rookie campaign last season. He holds a good groove and is tough to pass, but has been caught on restarts and/or with mechanical failure many times. Here he leads the pack into turn 1 at the start of the show.
Start:
1st. Adam Lytle (Lytle Racing #33c)
2nd. Branden “Toomer” Matott (Inkings Tattoo/Woodchuck Saloon #345)
3rd. Kevin Galletta (Brian Galletta/Plattnum #28)
4th. Ryan Palmer (Ryan Palmer #29)
5th. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta #54) [Did Not Start]
6th. Eric Woolworth (Galletta’s Greenhouse 2)
7th. Matt Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #80)
8th. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
9th. Tonya Taylor (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
10th. Melissa Stevens w/Lilybeth (Scissors n’ Fur #19) [Did Not Start]
Matt Stevens loves shaking karts down, and his pregnant wife has been unable to race all year (although she has taken the green flag and been scored in last all season for points – which has netted her and her then unborn baby Lilybeth Rose Stevens tied for 7th in points, which should embarrass any karter in Oswego County beneath them… because a pregnant woman and unborn baby beat your ass! LOL!) Matt in particular loves her #80, as the kart was built as a near-identical clone to his very own #33, and he wanted to get that thing a win. Here he is challenging a very game Lytle for the lead. On a restart, that tricky Matt blew by Lytle for the lead bbefore the midway point.
As the upper-right-hand picture shows, Matt at one point had the lead all to himself. But something that usually doesn’t happen happened. Matt started slowing down. The #80 started running out of gas! As the frames show, Matt eventually got caught and passed back by Adam! Now Matt does NOT get passed very often, so that was something to see! Chris also pulled alongside Matt as his motor was clearly having fuel pickup problems.
When Matt’s #80 started sputtering, not only did Lytle triumphantly pass Matt back, but so did Chris. Well… kind of. Matt slowed so suddenly coming out of turn 2 that Chris brushed the back bumper of the #80 while trying a pass, and in doing so, snapped a tie rod. Hysterical footage follows, as Chris loses control, crosses directly in front of Matt, and then PLOWS into the tires near the end of the back stretch with a lil’ help from the #80. The #5 was O.F.T.N. and Chris hopped into his #8, while the #80 was also out due to sputtering, so Matt hopped into Melissa’s other kart, the #19.
Here Kevin Galletta (in his bro’s #28) works on Lytle during a restart, and later gets him. A caution came out when they were still side-by-side, so we collectively decided to let them start side-by-side, and Lytle was able to hold off Kevin this time.
The #28 fell to mechanical problems a few laps later, as shortly after this, Kevin had to hop into the #13 (another kart in his brother Brian’s fleet), as he spun the #28 and then lost a chain.
Here is pretty much the battle every race. Oswego Karting career point-and-win leaders Chris and Matt battling it out behind someone who is fighting to hold on for a win, this time behind Lytle. The founding bros are so close in the points that every lap literally counts considering all the bonus points at stake in the top-3! At this point, Adam was probably thinking about now, “Damn, why did we agree to do an extra 5 laps?! That checker cannot come quick enough!”
Lytle did it! He’s raced steadily since the 1st race of 2012, and finally got a feature win! Just in time, too, as Klassic is coming and we don’t plan any other regular features before the big annual 200-lap point season finale!
Finish:
1st. Adam Lytle (Lytle Racing #33c)
2nd. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5, Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #8)
3rd. Matt Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19, Scissors n’ Fur #80)
4th. Eric Woolworth (Galletta’s Greenhouse 2)
5th. Kevin Galletta (Brian Galletta/Plattnum #28, Brian Galletta/Plattnum #13)
6th. Branden “Toomer” Matott (Inkings Tattoo/Woodchuck Saloon #345)
7th. Tonya Taylor (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
8th. Ryan Palmer (Ryan Palmer #29)
9th. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta #54) [Did Not Start]
10th. Melissa Stevens w/Lilybeth (Scissors n’ Fur #80) [Did Not Start]
THE NEXT RACE IS THE 18TH ANNUAL GALLETTA’S KARTING KLASSIC. The best and ONLY the best karters in Oswego show up. All others are overrated pussies that don’t want to get beat. Yes, we’ll say that to their faces if they had the balls to show up. They won’t. We already know. If they did, they wouldn’t be pussies now, would they?
Klassic is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th, 2013 with time trials starting in the afternoon hour, and Klassic 200 scheduled for shortly after 4pm. The time trials will go in order of total points, seen below:
