2013 Season
Welcome to our 18th Season at Galletta’s Greenhouse Go-Kart Speedway – 2013
38 racers joined us in in 24 feature races in our 18th annual points chase at Galletta’s Greenhouse’s Backyard Karting Speedway in 2013! View it all here, now all in HD!
Our complete season video playlist! Seriously, does any other race track race for free, have full race and point breakdowns, and free race videos to every single race for over a decade? Can we get a little thanks for that? Lets go over the entire season:
6/5/2013: 18th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Season Opener (45-Laps)
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5TH 2013 – The 18th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Club Season Opener (the original, longest-running, most competitive, and largest karting class in Oswego, NY) was scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd, 2013, but for the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th?) year in a row, rained out (technically, the rain stopped in time for a race, but the track was far too wet to prepare). We did not announce a rain date publicly because we flat out did not know what day we were going to run (a lot of track work and kart work was needed and rain was on the horizon). Wednesday wound up being the best day with rain forecasts for the weekend, so we hurried up and ran with it. 8 veterans made it, no surprise that they were the top-8 points-earners in 2012 – and we obviously lost a few rookie 1st-timers because of our short-notice wid-week rain date – but we still put on a tremendous race for our opener. Chris Stevens won the opener in his old kart, the Galletta’s Greenhouse Bluestreak #2! Why was he in this usual Galletta’s Team “rental” kart when he has two karts of his own? And why is his cousin Brian Galletta sneaking up behind him with an evil look in his eyes? Find out via points, pics and race videos here!
6/9/2013: Eric Woolworth picks up 1st career win in Raven Tavern #88!
SUNDAY, JUNE 9TH, 2013 – Eric Woolworth had flirted with victory lane a handful of times in his rookie season last year, but always had a freak luck break or lose control of his kart at the worst time. Not today. Eric led all 45-laps from his pole starting position, and — although Brian Galletta pulled alongside of him, and Matt and Chris Stevens kept him within sight — none of the nine other competitors could get him. More details & race video are found HERE!
6/19/2013: Dave Spanfelner and Brian Galletta take the Mid-Week Twin Features!
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19TH, 2013 – Sunday, June 16th saw a muddy track prevent the 2nd of 3 regularly-scheduled Sunday races for the 2013 season. So for the 2nd time in this young season, we ran a mid-week special rain-date event! Dave Spanfelner won the 1st Twin-30 in his DS Humphrey’s #54. Then Brian Galletta stormed by his brother Kevin to take the 2nd feature, which was shortened to 24 laps by starter Wesley TrOgre Stevens due to dark (despite Chris and Matt’s protest to finish the last 6). These two also won the last Twin-30s, the DS Humphrey’s 2012 Fall Finale! (Behold! Buddy the Galletta’s Greenhouse patrol cat got in the pic, too! Ogie’s gotta’ be gettin’ jealous.) Sorry we were behind due to the shortened race week, but rest assured… more pictures and points AND videos are here!
6/23/2013: Matt Stevens Sweeps the Twin-35s in his Galletta’s Greenhouse #3 & 33!
SUNDAY, JUNE 23rd, 2013 – Matt Stevens is like a high-scoring MVP in a sport. You can contain him, slow him down for a bit, even think you got him figured out. Then he explodes. Matt took over the lead from his handicap starting position of 2nd place in the 1st feature and led most of the race to win the 1st feature. But in the 2nd feature, he really didn’t deserve it running 4th the whole way. But Chris Stevens, Dave Spanfelner, and Billy Truax all had serious shots at the win but all made mistakes that Matt capitalized upon, taking Truax by a bumper at the checker. The kid just cannot be stopped, and no driver at the local pay karting tracks is in his league in terms of experience, motor building, and sheer volume of wins and championships. His record speaks for itself, ignored or not. More pictures and points are now updated!
6/30/2013: Chris Stevens Sweeps the Twin-35s in his Galletta’s Greenhouse #4 & the #0!
SUNDAY, JUNE 30th, 2013 – Chris Stevens duplicated his brother’s previously undone feat of winning back-to-back Twin-35s in two different karts. Tearing up the 1st feature in the Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #4 with a nice fresh replacement engine he purchased off eBay for $25 (he blew a rod in the opener), he then hopped into the often ignored Galletta’s Greenhouse #0 in the 2nd feature and promptly looked just as fast, if not faster taking the win in that, after the initial leader – a VERY game and rocketship fast Dave Spanfelner – slowed up due to what seemed to be a burnt out clutch on the DS Humphrey’s #54. Thirteen karts and 70 laps in one race! This is what we mean when we say biggest and most competitive karting class in the area, bar none. PAGE, PICS, VIDS & POINTS ARE NOW UPDATED!
7/7/2013: Chris Stevens wins 3rd Straight Feature at 18th Annual Independence Day 45!
SUNDAY, JULY 7th, 2013 – Chris Stevens took the Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #4 into victory lane for his 4th feature win of 2013 (including 3rd in a row!) with a strong performance in the Independence Day 45-Lapper, our 18th annual race to celebrate America’s birthday! Initial leader Joe Sereno was holding strong – as Chris, Matt Stevens and Brian Galletta all passed each other back and forth behind him – until his drive tire blew shortly after the #4 passed him for the lead. Then another battle occurred as the leaders came up on traffic between Chris, Brian, and Matt… a tremendous contest from start to finish. (And Buddy the Galletta’s Greenhouse Patrol cat photo-bombed victory lane… AGAIN!) TONS of pictures showing the exciting action, descriptions, and points AND the RACE VIDEO are all updated and located on this page!
7/14/2013: Matt Stevens Breaks Bro’s Streak in 45-Lap Feature Triumph
SUNDAY, JULY 14th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Matt Stevens (in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #3) snapped his brother’s 3-feature win streak by passing polesitter and early-leader Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c) on a lap-16 restart and led the rest of the way. Matt wins his 3rd feature of 2013 with the triumph, coming back from a lap 0 warning where flagger Wesley “Ogre” Stevens claimed Matt jumped the gun (he did go from 5th to tied for 1st at the start before Wes threw the yellow for the warning). Meanwhile, his brother Chris trapped Lytle in traffic for 2nd and was hoping for 10 more laps and a little mre traffic so he could challenge. Honorable mention goes to Adam Lytle, who is continuing to show improvement with his fresher motor prepped by Matt a few weeks back and if not for a slow restart and lapped traffic, may have had his 1st career win. The hot temperatures kept some from making the race – and we almost had to postpone, but some late arriving rookies made for 10 competitors in the show, which qualified for our self-imposed minimum driver requirement at 8. However, missing was Brian Galletta, who took some damage in the points race after being in the top-3 all season until now. (And Buddy the Galletta’s Greenhouse Patrol cat photo-bombed victory lane… AGAIN!) Points, pictures, videos and descriptions are done, please check them out here!!
7/21/2013: Joe Sereno wins the 10-kart “Full Moon 45” in the Galletta’s #5!
SUNDAY, JULY 21st, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Joe Sereno wins the Full Moon 45 in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #5! Taking the lead in the fairly early going, then holding off challenges from Eric Woolworth and Matt Stevens proved a task not too difficult for our Popeye-armed / Bearded Brawler/ Husky Helper Joseph! More details, pictures, points, and comedy awaits you on the race page… now updated with VIDEOS for you HERE!
7/28/2013: Chris Stevens wins the 10-kart “Chris’ Declaration of Bestism 40” in the Galletta’s/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi LLC #4!
SUNDAY, JULY 28th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Driving the Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi LLC #4, Chris Stevens wins his fifth feature of 2013 (and since 2000, his 73rd feature win combined at Galletta’s Karting Speedway and Oswego Speedway’s Dirt Kartway) and has long sung the praises of his brother’s unbelievable stats, but has gone a step further to declare he and his brother the best adult Oswego Karters, period. Clue delivered. *FLUSH* Guess what? There are lotta’ more details on the weekly race page here.
8/4/2013 – Dave Spanfelner Plows Through Dominates Traffic to win “Mr. Oswego Karting 10,000-Rocks-To-Win” 45-Lapper in the D.S. Humphrey’s #54!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – The “Mr. Oswego Karting 10,000-Rocks-To-Win” 45-Lapper was utterly dominated by Mr. David Spanfelner in the D.S. Humphrey’s #54! Dave blasted from 4th to 1st at the drop of the green flag and held off countless pass attempts from point-leaders Matt and Chris Stevens and plowing through deftly avoiding a wreck involving lapped traffic in front of him en route to leading all 45-laps for his most dominant win – a perfect sweep of a heat win and leading every lap of a feature. More to come very, very soon, so come back later! No… wait… it’s done! Go to see pics, points and race video… NOW!
8/10 – 8/11/2013 – Justin Galletta, Chris Stevens & Kevin Galletta won the “Triple 30 Lappers for Tim Galletta” weekend
SATURDAY-SUNDAY, AUGUST 10th-11th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Tim Galletta – cousin to founders Matt and Chris Stevens and also another grandson of the Late Galletta’s Greenhouse founder, John J. Galletta – raced in the club for the better part of four seasons (2009-2012), including missing only 1 race in a 3 year span. His move down south for work took him out of weekly competition, in fact, for a full year! Tim was back for a specially scheduled Saturday, August 10th, 2013 show, his only race of the year thus far (hopefully he can work in time for the 2013 Klassic 200). We had twin 30s on Saturday and then, we also ran a 3rd feature, a slightly longer 35-lapper, on our regularly scheduled Sunday! The races did not disappoint. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) won the 1st, Chris Stevens (Chrusher.com/Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi LLC #8) won the 2nd, and a career first winner for Kevin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9) kart in the 3rd feature on Sunday. More, including points, pix and race videos, on the race page here!
8/18/2013 – Eric Woolworth wins his 2nd career Feature in the Raven Tavern #88!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 18th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Eric Woolworth swept the night’s heat and feature in his Raven Tavern #88 by passing Dave Spanfelner in the early stages, running away and hiding enough on late-charging Matt and Chris Stevens to collect his 2nd career win, both this season. 10 karts were used, and c’mon… we have so many open karts people. I guess it is true… people really do fear us as the best karters in Oswego and puss out on race day. Period. Word. Pass it. Do you think don’t want more people to beat? Bring it, son. More details and race videos are on the race page here! All drivers raced hard.
8/25/2013 – Matt Stevens Triumphs in Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74 at the “War of Attrition & No-Shows 25” Shortened Event!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 25th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Usually, late Summer at our fine backyard speedway in out 18 seasons of point racing and 20+ seasons of racing in general, we hit a late-Summer/early-Fall rut. This week was the case. Rut hit. Various events (golf tourneys, g@y vampire sex TV shows that absolutely cannot be missed at 9pm, work, whining-about-not-starting-on-time-but-never-showing-on-time, and broken karts) caused our show to go from an expected 10+ kart Twin-35 night to a 7-kart 25 lapper. Almost 8, but then that g@y vampire sex show couldn’t be DVR’ed! Even though we only had 7 karts on track the racing was exciting. Even if the webmaster and points leader was pretty damn miffed about being bumped out of precious point-scoring positions for the second week in a row – first by a friend last weekend and then (see pic) by his own brother this weekend! *Sigh* Still, in hindsight, despite the small show, the racing was quite good, as we almost had a 1st-time winner (Branden “Tumor” Matott, who blew up his drive-wheel system while leading), and almost a 2-in-a-row-winner (Eric Woolworth, who also broke in the lead after his brother did). But that tricky Matt Stevens won, even if he had to resort to some rough riding on his own bro to get his first win in over a month. More details are on the race page right here!
All drivers raced hard. Everybody (who showed) had fun. Every racer is great. That is all. Nobody reads the website. Nobody cares about the points. Nobody cares about the pictures and their captions. Safety, who the fuck cares. Let’s ram all day when someone’s in front of you or you get passed. Except Matt, let him go. Yay Matthew! Best ever… whoops, sorry pay track guys, shucks golly, you all are swell too!
9/1/2013 – Branden “Tumor” Matott & Matt Stevens Win The 18th Annual Oswego Karting Labor Day Championship Twin-30s!
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Another driver steps into the storied 18-year Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway winner’s circle, 1st year driver Branden “Tumor” Matott wins his 1st career feature with a 30-lap sweep in his Inkings Tattoo/Woodchuck Saloon #34.5 during the 1st feature. He was then joined by the man who has been in victory lane more than every single other driver (minus his brother) combined – Matt Stevens, as he survived several crazy entanglements en route to putting not one, but two karts into the lead (1st blowing by everybody in the Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74 – which broke a wheel hub while leading, and then blew by everybody again the Galletta’s Greenhouse #33) to inch a little closer to his brother Chris in both the points and wins columns. Some entertaining 9-kart races that provided a nice nightcap following Oswego Speedway’s Classic 200. More on the race page right here, right now – videos too!
9/8/2013 – Brian Galletta and Ryan Palmer win The Track is Loose as Heck Twin-30s!
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – The 1st feature went to Brian Galletta (in his Platt-num #28) after a crazy 1st 30-laps with crashing and all kinds of dry/dusty tack and smashing, crashing hijinks and then surviving challenges by Chris and Matt Stevens. For the 2nd feature, yet another rookie driver steps into the storied 18-year Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway winner’s circle, 1st year driver Ryan Palmer wins his 1st career feature with a 30-lap sweep in the Brian Galletta (formerly Eric Woolworth) #88, recovering from a flip, almost getting disqualified in the 1st feature from crashing into everybody, and some crazy crashes in the 1st feature and barely holding off some half-hearted challenges from Matt and Chris Stevens. Next week we will again look at Saturday, but probably run Sunday, and we are still looking at probable dates for our 18th Annual Klassic (200-Lapper), with 9/28, 10/5 and 10/6 as possible dates. More on the race is on the race rundown page right here, videos included…
9/18/2013 – Adam Lytle wins “A Klassic is a Comin’ 50” Full Moon mid-week Special in the Lytle Motorsports #33c. his 1st career feature win!
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – The race that was scheduled for Sunday, September 15th, 2013 got the heats in (won by Adam Lytle in Lytle 33c and Chris Stevens in Galletta’s #5), but the feature rained out before lap 1 was completed. So, we were able to get almost all of the drivers who qualified in the heats back for a special mid-week race, and made it a 50-lap shakedown for Klassic, which may be our next race depending on weather and driver availability. And some crazy full moon incidents went down, including Matt Stevens (driving his pregnant wife’s karts) taking the lead then sputtering, Lytle passing him back, then Chris Stevens breaking tie-rods on the #5 by hitting his bro and becoming the newest entrant into the Nature Boy Club by crashing into the woods THEN having the throttle stick on the #0 and almost going BACK into the woods FROM the pit (WOW!), a few drivers breaking before the checker, and finally Lytle getting passed by Kevin Galletta, then getting him back and holding on for his 1st career win. As if you couldn’t tell with that ear to ear smile! Whew! Quite a race! And Lytle earned and deserved it, as he has run most of the schedule for 2 years and has had all kinds of freakish bad luck, late restart passes and mechanical problems take him out of near-victories before. Now, the race page and video are finally complete!
10/13/2013 – The 18th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200…
…won by Kelly Miller in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #7!!!
OUTTA’ NOWHERE! The 5th member of the Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic Championship fraternity is crowned! The longest-running Oswego Karting championship ran it’s 18th annual marathon event, which decides both the point standings (best overall karter in the area), and also the best Iron-Man karter in the area. Eleven drivers entered but only three led all night (11 drivers?! That leaves several karts on site – including the timed fastest kart of the fleet – Galletta’s #5 – unused?! For shame!!! And this is supposed to be a racing town?!) The three you see, Kelly Miller, Matt Stevens, and Chris Stevens had a duel of the ages, as they essentially battled back and forth for the lead for all 200 laps, with occasional challenges by Brian Galletta and Eric Woolworth. All three had the lead and lost it in breathtaking manners (Kelly led early and a slow leaking tired forced him to pit after getting passed, Matt hounded Chris and Kelly, took the lead, then slipped up and Chris got him back, and Chris led several laps late, got pinned and passed by both Kelly and Matt behind lapped traffic, and suffered a a bent sprocket that took him out of the top 2)! But the one who had it last – Kelly Miller, gets the win. He becomes only the 5th driver – Matt Stevens (won 10), Chris Stevens (won 5), Wes Stevens (won 1), Kyle Reuter (won 1) – in the Klassic’s 18 year history to win the big one , all while only picking up his 2nd career win at Galletta’s. Although many know him from both racing Stocks and Supermodifieds on the big track downtown, Kelly showed he knows how to drive more than just the big machines! And in a kart THAT SAT UNUSED waiting for a driver ABOUT 97% OF THE YEAR. Congrats to Kelly, congrats and thank you to all who showed, and to all who could’ve came out and didn’t? On your knees, dogs. READ MORE HERE!

We have some new things in store for next season, including set start times, a points standings cash purse fund, membership (lower rentals, timeouts and enter into the points money fund), doing away with rookie timeouts, a lower limited amount of member timeouts), sponsorship opportunities, and more. Suggestions welcome. See you in June 2014 for the 19th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Club Points Season Opener!
NOTE: THE LARGEST KARTING CLASS IN OSWEGO! No other class in the area has more than 25 competitors, and most have 6-15. Most pay tracks are roughly half our size. Most tracks have 5-10 minute races topping out at 10-35 laps (which would equal 5-15 laps on ours). All the karts are set to COMPETE, NO MATTER YOUR WEIGHT! 130lbs.? 250lbs.? Yep, we can set up a kart for you. We can help you build, or ride one of our feature-winning Galletta’s Team Karts Race with us, you get the most experience and race against the empirically proven most experienced karting drivers in the area. And the best part? For HALF the price of any class on any pay track. What are you waiting for? Let’s go!
10/13/2013 – 2013 GAS FLATHEAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP / GALLETTA’S GREENHOUSE TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY CHRIS STEVENS, DECLARES HIMSELF BEST KARTER ON OSWEGO, NY!
With a season-high 6 feature victories, an overwhelming amount of top-3 bonus points all year long, and 193 out of 210 laps in the top three followed by a 3rd place finish in the Klassic (including nearly winning it – but was trapped in traffic AND suffered a bent axle as well) to clinch it, Chris “The Cerebral Chrusher” Stevens clinches the 2013 Gas Flathead World Championship at Galletta’s Greenhouse Speedway! And, with 38 competitors competing in 24 feature events, it is by far the largest and most experienced karting class in the city of Oswego and for a large part of Central New York as well. When asked about his declaration of bestistism, he stated, “My brother is and has been the best karter in Oswego – his record is untouchable. And I owe him for setting up my karts so good, and in fact, everybody’s karts so good. When he touches your kart, it’s up front. No question. But at least this year, I took the track title in Oswego’s biggest and longest-running class and came so close to winning my 3rd straight 200-lapper. And Rumble got more screen time than Frenzy, so yep, it’s me. I cannot deny it. I’m the best. I declare myself champion. Don’t like it, come take it. Gauntlet gets thrown every year, a lot of empty scrots in cookie-cutter pre-fabs proving nothing elsewhere, we know. We know. We see ya’. It’s cool, y’know. Know your limits. Thank you, bubs.” In addition to the below 2013 point tallies (found below the page reviews on this page), the All-Time Points & Win Tallies to every Galletta’s Karting event on the two Oswego Karting tracks from 2000-2013 has been updated and located on this webpage. Next season, we will be racing on more Saturdays than ever before in order to allow more drivers to make it on a regular weekly basis. See you then!
