9/4/2015 – Kyle Reuter leads all 50-Laps in 11-Kart Labor Day Triumph!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – Five newbie 1st-timer rookies joined us this weekend to make an 11-kart Labor Day Weekend feature event. And Kyle Reuter’s return last weekend handicapped him on the pole this one, and Reuter led all 50-laps in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #5 to win a feature in it two years in a row, getting pumped for Klassic fever coming later this month. And, as we all know, at Galletta’s Greenhouse Backyard Speedway, the winner is always the winner of the biggest “Classic Weekend” Go-Kart race of Oswego for twenty years rolling, not the itty-bitty, pee-wee league bump-to-pass cookie-cutter one that’s so short that it’s shorter than one of our regular races. And this isn’t even our big one. That one’s later this month! Pics, descriptions, points are here and videos ASAP!
ROOKIE HEAT START:
1. George Johnson (Galletta’s Greenhouse #81)
2. Tony Cimilluca (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
3. Brad Sharkey (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
4. Jon Johnson (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
5. Steven Sharkey (Galletta’s Greenhouse #78)
This batch of rookies looked pretty good out there. Of course, it never matters how good they are in their 1st race. It only matters how often they come back and if they want to become a full time or semi-full time racer. Our races are great now, but imagine how amazing they’d be with 3-10 more karts on track weekly. Wow.
This week’s batch of rookies certainly delivered less accidents than last week’s batch. In fact, they had almost no cautions, rare for a a race consisting of 1st-time drivers! That’s what we like to see!
ROOKIE HEAT FINISH:

2. Jon Johnson (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
3. Brad Sharkey (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
4. George Johnson (Galletta’s Greenhouse #81)
5. Steven Sharkey (Galletta’s Greenhouse #78)
50-Lap Champion of ALL Oswego Karting on Labor Day Feature Event
It’s almost unfair, really… Kyle Reuter – a multi-time Quarter-Midget Champion, multi-time Methanol Flat Kart Champion, former Galletta’s Visiting Driver Points Champion, and former Galletta’s Klassic 200 Champion – gets to start on the pole in only his 2nd week back of 2015! Our handicap system saw to it. This is what happens when too few veteran drivers show and the rookies don’t have enough races under their belts… our points/wins handicap system will put a really good driver handicapped in 1st. It’s actually been happening for a few years now, but as long as the rookies keep coming back, THEY will be handicapped on the pole instead of multi-time winning vets. In fact, this week had Kevin Galletta set to start on the pole, but personal family reasons have prevented it. Drivers out there? We need you to fill up our field.
With accomplished and talented drivers like Kyle, Matt, Chris and all the other feature-winning veterans… we only need a few more good drivers on the track and there will be NO dispute which go-kart class in the area has the most talent packed in it. To us, there already IS no contest, but sometimes 100 precision prefab racing karts of novices diluted to 5-10 kart fields racing 3-7 minute races somehow still think they’re learning more about pure racing than 10-15 equalized kart fields racing for 35-60 minutes. Yeah, we disagree. And we welcome more to join us. You won’t find more talent in one field at the local pay tracks than this one.
FEATURE START – 50 LAPS:
1. Kyle Reuter (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
2. Keith Raymond (Good Guys Barbershop #88)
3. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c)
4. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
5. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #4)
6. Tony Cimilluca (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
7. Jon Johnson (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
8. Brad Sharkey (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
9. George Johnson (Galletta’s Greenhouse #81)
10. Steven Sharkey (Galletta’s Greenhouse #78)
11. Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19)
Reuter at first pulled away in the always fast-and-loose Galletta’s Greenhouse #5, but the kart seemed to get looser as the race went on and Kyle was barely holding on. Behind him, however, was a lot of close racing. 4th-in-points Keith Raymond spun out early on in 2nd and 3rd-in-points Adam Lytle did his usual expert job or running in the fast line very well and holding everyone off, including 1st-&-2nd-in-points, Chris and Matt Stevens. The rookies all ran VERY well, especially Tony Cimilluca, who looked as if he may have been running a little light to use the #7, as he was clearly the fastest of the rookies tonight. However, mechanical issues took a few out, as well as Adam Lytle and Matt Stevens. Matt used a timeout to return to the race, but was only able to recover one spot upon his return. Reuter was very loose at race’s end, and almost fell off the track a few times, but held on to hold off points-leader Chris Stevens for his 1st win of 2015! And with only 1 more race scheduled before the 20th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200, none too soon!
