9/3/2007 – 16-Kart/45-Lap Labor Day Race, Reuter breaks leaving Matt Stevens taking of 12th of 24 Oswego’s 2 track’s Features! +YouTube
Galletta’s 2007 Race #14 : 9/3/2007 45-Lapper:
On September 3rd, 2007, Matt “Furlong” Stevens regains his usual form and wins the Galletta’s 2007 Labor Day 45, a special yearly Monday race. Kyle Reuter led most of the 16-kart race in the Galletta’s #5, but broke with 1 lap remaining. 2nd place went to the driver of the Galletta’s #8, Chris “ChrusherComix” Stevens who has been in Kyle’s shoes many times before, including earlier this year. Matt has won 50% of the Features that he has entered this season: 5 of 10 Oswego Speedway Features, and 7 of 14 Galletta’s Features. Considering the amount of skilled drivers – anywhere between 6-16 karts per race – that is a staggering record.

The fun started early as — in what could only be explained as a rather inebriated-looking move — Kenny Lindsley Jr. floored his kart through the corner in practice, flipping violently in turn 2. His son Kenny III was doing corner flagger and rushed to his aide.
Here is a picture of the close racing during the 1st heat. It was won by Ryan Coleman in the Galletta’s #9.
Here is one clip of a wreck where Nick Dann and Ken Lindsley Sr. wrecked and collected Dick Dann. Another angle (and a higher quality version of this one) are on the Galletta’s 2007 DVD Volume #15.
After a caution in heat 1, Ken Lindsley Sr. didn’t see the yellow flag and then drives over Chris Stevens’ drive-heel and leg!
A shot from the 2nd heat, which was won by Matt Stevens in the Galletta’s #33.
Ed Maynes ran his 2nd race of 2007. However, he got collected in a small mishap during the 2nd heat here and retired. (2008 edit: For good.)
The 14-kart Feature began early, a trend we’d like to keep up from here on out! SBS driver Ryan Coleman drove a great race in the Galletta’s 9-Lives and probably would have been able to score a top 3-5 position if the track held up. Here is a video clip of the close feature battles that take place every week!
A familiar battle took place at Galletta’s Go-Kart Speedway. For much of the latter half of this year, it has been a 3-way-battle between Matt Stevens, Chris Stevens, and Kyle Reuter. We see the trio battling it out again this weekend, this time with Kyle holding off Matt and Chris until a caution on lap 44 set up one last restart. On that restart, Kyle hit one bump too many and his drive-wheel system gave way, enabling Matt to inherit the win, and Chris to take 2nd. Ogre, running 3rd on the last lap, almost spun out, then angrily pulled off the track before the finish line robbing himself out of 2-4 positions. This enabled Nick Dann to get his career best finish, and sets up his plot to dominate the planet from his go-kart seat. He will make you pay.
Kyle and several of the visiting drivers were highly frustrated – and understandably so – as several ruts in turn 1 took a few of their karts out of competition for the night. The track is being graded and smoothed out this week, and we’ll again look into getting clay for the turns – though nobody will deliver it to us no matter how many people or times that we call, so any help would be appreciated. However, this by itself can’t completely solve the problem, when inexperienced drivers drift or slide their rear-ends and floor it into and through the turns – especially before the racing even begins. This not only digs potholes into the track and breaks the drive-wheel setups, but it also enables Matt and Chris to have way more power in the straights because they do not do this *NOTE: crafty veteran secret exposed.* We’ll now stop allowing practice for anybody other than a rookie 1st-timer, cut down the warm-ups to 1-3 laps each before the race begins, and no throttling going into the turns during warm-ups (Old rules that we’ll re-institute). More of this subject on the message board here.

The next race is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th, 2007 with drivers expected to arrive between 5:00-6pm. Usually we race on Saturdays in the Fall because we watch NFL on Sundays (both of our teams will be done around 4pm), but some of our regular competitors have prior obligations conflicting with a few of our dates and our teams should be done by 4pm. If the chance of rain is greater for Sunday instead of Saturday, we’ll try to race Saturday instead, so ask Matt. Next weekend will probably be a Saturday (9/15) race, and we are aiming the 12th Annual Galletta’s Go-Kart Klassic 175 to be on a Saturday in late-September/early October (meaning the most available regular drivers available will be the selected date). Schedule for all of September 2007 will be on this message board thread and updated when needed. Now here are the newly updated…
