8/10 – 8/11/2013 – Justin Galletta, Chris Stevens & Kevin Galletta won the “Triple 30 Lappers for Tim Galletta” weekend
SATURDAY-SUNDAY, AUGUST 10th-11th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Tim Galletta – cousin to founders Matt and Chris Stevens and also another grandson of the Late Galletta’s Greenhouse founder, John J. Galletta – raced in the club for the better part of four seasons (2009-2012), including missing only 1 race in a 3 year span. His move down south for work took him out of weekly competition, in fact, for a full year! Tim was back for a specially scheduled Saturday, August 10th, 2013 show, his only race of the year thus far (hopefully he can work in time for the 2013 Klassic 200). We had twin 30s on Saturday and then, we also ran a 3rd feature, a slightly longer 35-lapper, on our regularly scheduled Sunday! The races did not disappoint.
8/10/2013 – Justin Galletta & Chris Stevens take the ‘Twin-30s-For-Tim’ Saturday Night Special!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 10th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – The first race was won by his son, Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7), who started on the pole and led all 30 laps for the win. The 2nd feature looked like it was going to be another father-and-son night, as Tim drove his old kart (sold to a golfing Dave Spanfelner and now the DS Humphrey’s #54) past two rookies and into the lead. But a flat tire and a loose track did Tim in, and that enabled Chris Stevens to emerge in the right place at the right time (in his Chrusher.com/Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi LLC #8) to win his 6th feature of 2013, his hottest start in well over ten years, maybe more! 13 drivers, and 60-green flag laps! Only 2 or 3 cautions all night, as well. Doesn’t get much better!
8/10/2013 – 30-LAP FEATURE #1
Start:
1st. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
2nd. Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #78)
3rd. Joe Sereno (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
4th. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
5th. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #8)
6th. Tim Galletta (DS Humphrey’s #54)
7th. David Turner (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
8th. Ed Lawton (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
9th. Melissa Stevens – w/Lilybeth Stevens (Scissors ‘n Fur #19)
10th. Raymond “RaYzor” Castaldo (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9)
11th. Scott “Cow” Gagnon (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
12th. Lawton Jr. (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
13th. Zach Shirtliff (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74)
Two of Chris and Matt’s high school buds stopped by for one of our rare Summer
Saturday events.
RaYzor Castaldo raced with us a few times in the 1990s and early 2000s, and
goes out and gets a few laps from time to time here and there, but he lives
in Syracuse and his job and band takes him away from ever racing on a Sunday,
which is the majority of our racing season. Here Ray got some laps in, but is
terribly rusty, and a couple late arrivals (*cough* Joe, *cough* Justin), made
it so the ever-busy RaYzor could only run a few laps before pulling the Galletta’s
#9.
Scott “Cow” Gagnon had, despite being friends with the founding bro’s
for over twenty years, had shockingly never once raced in a Galletta’s Karting Club
race! There’s a first time for everything, as here we see that Scott took a few laps before pulling
off as well. You may say “So what?!”, but when you run a karting club,
you can put your buddies picture on the website, too, especially when it’s hard
to get them into a race and funny seeing them out there kin karts for a change.
With a former feature winner on the pole with a fast kart like the heavyweight-handicap
Galletta’s Greenhouse #7, it’s not hard to foresee a green-to-checker 30-laps
led win for such a competitor. That was the case with Justin Galletta. Sure,
his bro Joe Sereno and his cousins Matt and Chris Stevens were testing him,
but he held on for the 30-lap sweep win!
Finish:
1st. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
2nd. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
3rd. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #8)
4th. Tim Galletta (DS Humphrey’s #54)
5th. Ed Lawton (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
6th. David Turner (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
7th. Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #78, #88)
8th. Joe Sereno (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
9th. Raymond “RaYzor” Castaldo (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9)
10th. Melissa Stevens – w/Lilybeth Stevens (Scissors ‘n Fur #19)
11th. Scott “Cow” Gagnon (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
12th. Lawton Jr. (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
13th. Zach Shurtliff (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74)
8/10/2013 – 30-LAP FEATURE #2

1st. David Turner (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)

12th. Lawton Jr. (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
13th. Zach Shurtliff (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74)
Rookies Dave Turner and Ed Lawton both looked good in their 2nd week of racing
at Galletta’s. But the handicap system worked well for 3rd-place-starting Tim
Galletta, who this race was special for. And add to that, he is driving his
former kart, the DS Humphrey’s #54, which just won last week with its current
owner Dave Spanfelner behind the wheel. Dave had a golf tournament and had a
few ttoo many cold ones to race, so he flagged and watched his kart storm into
the lead by lap 4. Tim Galletta then looked like the man to beat in 1st place, and was trying to put a cap on winning the race we scheduled for his one weekend up in Oswego. Chris made his way up to 2nd and stayed with him, but a veteran like multi-feature-winning Tim Galletta in a powerful kart like the #54 is going to be tough to beat.
…but the track was a little loose and Tim got high in turn 1 (either because off the loose track or a softening left-rear tire), and almost fell off the track in 2. This gave Chris a free lane to take the lead. Tim then badly slowed, the left-rear tire went flat.
Finish:
1st. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com/R&C Sushi #8)
2nd. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/Chrusher.com #74)
3rd. Joe Sereno (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
4th. Tim Galletta (DS Humphrey’s #54, Galletta’s #9)

But the races were not yet done. In addition to Saturday, we also ran our usual day…
… 8/11/2013 – Sunday Night Follow-Up – Career First Victory for Kevin Galletta!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 11th, 2013 – As a follow-up
to our special edition Saturday Twin-30s (for Tim Galletta), we ran a makeup
race followed by a third 30+ lap race thrown in for good measure. In fact, a
35-lapper! And it was a career first winner! Kevin Galletta, brother to Brian
Galletta and cousins to Tim Galletta, Chris and Matt Stevens (and a few others
who rarely-to-never race), took the win leading all 35-laps in the Galletta’s
Greenhouse #9 kart, but had to survive a near wreck or two AND hold off Chris
and Matt to do so.
Newbie/Rookie Heat Finish:
1st. Kyle Menter (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1)
2nd. Chris Larkin (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
3rd. Dan Cliff (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
4th. Dan Brown (Galletta’s Greenhouse #0)
For some reason, there was supposed to be one rookie practice, one rookie heat
and one makeup race for all those – vets and newbies – who missed Saturday’s
show (and be counted at the end of it). However, for some unknown reason, there
were two! Odd. As if I didn’t have enough trouble with the scoring! Well, to
make things easy, we tacked the final order of the one (the 1st with primarily
rookies) onto the other (the 2nd one with primarily veterans). The third heat
is kind of just… well, a mess and I’ll bank them for future consideration
(makeup, heat, or whatever… most of the time the newbies don’t come back so
why do I put more effort in scoring them than they did actually racing??).
Makeup Race for Saturday’s Event (Composite with parts 1 and 2) :

11th. Dan Cliff (Galletta’s Greenhouse #2)
12th. Melissa Stevens – w/Lilybeth Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19)
Kevin Galletta started on the pole in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #9, and although
at times had some crazy stuff going on behind him, held off a challenge or two
from Adam Lytle and Chris Stevens (including when they were three-wide on a
restart and all did a good job to avoid the wreck), still would up leading all
35 laps and took his career 1st victory. Brother of longtime racer Brian Galletta
and cousins of Chris and Matt, Kevin had raced on and off with us through the
years (but Military, family and his jobs have prevented him from running all
too much), this by far was his best race yet.
Finish:
1st. Kevin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9)

From the desk of the webmaster Chris Stevens:
Due to overwhelming amount of work at my and my wife’s sushi bar, a trip to Cortland to watch my New York Jets practice, and three features this weekend, the points were not done before the 8/19/2013 event. Therefore, the 8/10, 8/11 and 8/18 shows were all combined in this points update
to make the web page editing much easier. Here is the:
