6/7/2014 – HUGE Brian Galletta crash [YouTube] During 19th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Speedway Opener (won by Eric Woolworth)!
2014 brings our 19th Annual Points Season at Galletta’s – ’14 Opener Set to Begin IS ON NOW!
That’s right. You don’t have to pay to watch our races. They are free to watch live, free to watch on YouTube. Basically the only thing we ask is… join us racing!
The 2014 season is looming, our 19th points season, the longest-running annual weekly dirt karting point circuit in the area. Here is our upcoming schedule, which has been known to be the same every season, but this year we have a few tweaks! One that we have been considering for a while now has come: We will be racing primarily on Saturdays all year (with Sunday as a primary rain-date or Friday as a preemptive rain-date). Race with some of the nicest AND talented drivers in the area in the most affordable motorsport in the area. And, while you’re at it? Try and beat Matt and Chris Stevens, who are the two most experienced karters in Oswego, and nobody has ever beat them out for 1st and 2nd in any weekly annual point series that they entered in 18 years.:
Saturday, May 31st – Sunday, June 1st, 2014 – Was a spruce-up/practice/fun day is set for Saturday and Sunday evenings, where track work and kart maintenance is needed and a free kart practice is set for anyone who chips in to help get things ready… IF the track is ready. Please keep in mind, that we are firstly a greenhouse, and a fact lost to many karters who can’t wait for our start, work comes first. Spruce-up is not to be done too early, as the greenhouse has customers and plants to water, so it would be a good idea to wait until the late-afternoon/early-evening.
[NOTE: Track was prepped and thanks to all who chipped in! Brian Galletta, Kelly Miller and Adam Lytle’s efforts helped Matt a great deal towards the track being ready for next weekend’s opener!]
Saturday, June 7th, 2014 – Our 19th Annual Points Opener. We have no meaningless “fun” race dates like kiddie kart tracks do. When the races are on, they count for both our annual points series and our all-time one. That’s how men race. And attendance is half the battle in beating the #1 and #2 winningest karters in Oswego, NY! We would be honored, if you would join us. (Hoo-Paah!)
Then. It went down…
19th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway Season Opener won by Eric Woolworth in the #88 + HUGE Brian Galletta Crash!
SATURDAY, JUNE 7TH, 2014, OSWEGO, NY – The original, longest-running, and most experienced karting class in Oswego, NY began their 19th point season, and it was another tremendous, highly-skilled battle from front to back and start to finish. Melissa Stevens, Adam Lytle, Eric Woolworth and Brian Galletta all took turns leading. Kelly Miller, Matt Stevens and Chris Stevens battled back and forth all night behind them. But after then-leader Brian Galletta’s brand-new #42 plowed into the 1st turn wall (when his left front hub imploded) taking out 3rd place Matt Stevens as well, Eric Woolworth held off defending track champ Chris Stevens for the rest of the way for a triumphant win. A kart that he sold to a newbie in 2013, bought it back (for a measly $110?! The motor alone was worth more than that!), and was a rocket-ship with a replaced drive tire with an experienced driver at the helm. View below for more points, pictures and details!
HEAT RACE
Heat saw the return to racing action for Matt Stevens’ wife Melissa, who just took one lap in every race last season due to being pregnant with their first child – Lilybeth. She had to hop into her backup, the #80, when the #19 lost a pull cord before the heat started.
Heat Start:
- Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #80)
- Adam Lytle (Lytle Racing #33c)
- Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #88)
- Brian Galletta (Bobandinator-Platt-num/Galletta #42)
- Kelly Miller (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
- Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3)
- Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi Bar/Chrusher.com #4)
- Matthew Daniels (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1) – Newbie/Rookie
Brian Galletta tried to take the heat on the start in the low groove and lost several spots, although showed the Platt-num/Galletta #42 has a good ability to stick, as he held said groove for several laps before relinquishing.
Chris, Kelly and Matt resumed their epic Klassic battle had a nice back-and-forth 3-way race in the middle of the pack.
Heat was shortened to 5 laps before it began to make sure the show got completed before dark. With the greenhouse’s busy season taking so much of our time, not all of the lights were ready for prime-time.
She promptly led every lap to win the heat.
Chris Stevens (#4), Kelly Miller (#7) and Matt Stevens (#3) – the only three that survived the 2013 Klassic and waged an epic battle for the lead in it – right back at it in the opening heat!
Heat Finish:
- Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #80)
- Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #88)
- Adam Lytle (Lytle Racing #33c)
- Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi Bar/Chrusher.com #4)
- Kelly Miller (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
- Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3)
- Brian Galletta (Bobandinator-Platt-num/Galletta #42)
- Matthew Daniels (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1) – Newbie/Rookie
19th Annual Season Opener at Galletta’s Greenhouse Backyard Speedway begins!
40-Lap Feature Start:

- Adam Lytle (Lytle Racing #33c)
- Eric Woolworth (Raven Tavern #88)
- Brian Galletta (Bobandinator-Platt-num/Galletta #42)
- Kelly Miller (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
- Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3)
- Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi Bar/Chrusher.com #4)
- Matthew Daniels (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1) – Newbie/Rookie
Matt Stevens’ helmet cam picked up some great action throughout. Here he looks for a way under his brother Chris (#4), Adam Lytle (#33c), and Kelly Miller (#7).
Brian Galletta was a man on a mission in his newly rebuilt (to meet width requirements to satisfy race starter/ head chassis spec man Wesley “Ogre” Stevens) #42…
He hunted early-leader Eric Woolworth down like a dog and muscled the #42 into the top spot, where he looked poise to win the feature.
Brian and Eric immediately started pulling away again after a restart for Kelly Miller (#7 lost a drive-wheel).
But then… the only downer on an otherwise great race happened….
Going strong down the front stretch, the #42’s left front wheel IMPLODED just before hitting the turn. Without control, he went nose 1st into the race tire barrier under the race tower. The usually quick-reaction Matt Stevens had nowhere to go and speared his drive tire with the front bumper of the #3.
Second shot. Brian was shaken up a bit and got sore ribs. You can see here how far he got bent up. He will be a race-time decision to start next week, but may just run 1 lap for points until healed up. (Edit: Well… ok, doctor’s orders, 2-4 weeks off.)
BUT… Brian wasn’t the only victim here either! Poor Aou and her baby:
THE WRECK FROM MATT STEVENS’S COMPLETE HELMET CAM FOOTAGE (+multi-angle Wreck rewind):
BOOM!
As you can hear on the video here, our camera-woman (Oswego Price Chopper sushi chef, and Chris’ lovely wife of 10 years), Mrs. Rungnapha “Aou” Stevens is 7 months pregnant and she and her unborn baby girl got a heck of a scare when Brian slammed into the race tower! Yowza!
After Kelly Miller lost a drive-wheel on the #7 and hopped into the #9, he immediately began battling with husband-and-wife Matt and Melissa Stevens. He was nipped by a bumper at the finish line by Matt Stevens for 3rd.
Eric Woolworth may have been caught from behind by Brian Galletta, but he turned on the jets and defending track champ Chris Stevens was unable to give him a challenge in his potent #4 (which was nearly undefeatable in 2013). Eric absolutely FLEECED aspiring karter Ryan Palmer in the exchange getting the kart (with a FAST motor on it) back for a fraction of the value. And the #88 looks to be a beast to contend with all year!

Post Script — PhotoBucket is the worst photo hosting service EVAH!!!!
When this page was originally built, we used PhotoBucket to host the majority of our pictures. Every picture from 2007-2018 (hundreds of them!) were hosted free with ads, which is perfectly fine for blogs, non-profit sites and message boards.
Years later, they reneged on their terms of service and went back and forth between blurring, watermarking with massive stamps, or once even outright REMOVING the pictures entirely! They then held them ransom for higher-than-buying-your-own-hosting prices. So, that’s means HUNDREDS of pictures were either gone, blurred, and/or watermarked, and held hostage. And videos? Gone for good. No coming back from those. More or less, it was extortion.
Since they did that, years afterwards, I’ve had to re-edit every embedded picture to my personal hosting, which took a lot of time and patience. This does increase the server load, so I now upload far less pictures. But, since YouTube still allows for unlimited uploads, so, we now just have our complete race videos on every page — which, IMO, are better than plain snapshots anyways.
Now, as an example of how nasty they are… the empty spaces below USED to be vidos of Brian’s crash. You can still see them on our YouTube playlists, but here? See for yourself:

Here’s a short video clip, compressed from our HD Blu-Ray or DVD home videos.
VIDEO CLIP #2:
Same as above, but slow-mo. He will be a race-time decision to start next week, but may just run 1 lap for points until healed up. Well… ok, doctor’s orders, 2-4 weeks off.
See that? Nope. Gone. Thanks PhotoBucket. Try to be more like YouTube, ok?
Oh, well. Tirade over. Onto next week…
