7/24/2005 – 15-Kart Race won by Matt Stevens (15 Mixed Motors, 40-Laps)
Welcome! We are a Dirt Go-Karting Club that races for a Points championship every weekend from June-thru-October since the early 1990s, counting points since 1996, and online since 2005! We race gas-only stock 5-horsepower class at Galletta’s Greenhouse’s not-for-profit/race-at-your-own-risk Go-Kart Speedway Summer Sundays and Fall Saturdays, and a gas-only 8hp-and-less Yard Kart summer Thursdays at Oswego Speedway’s Clay Dirt Oval. Always looking for new, experienced teen drivers or serious adult racers to join us!
Galletta’s Go-Kart Racing Association – 2005 Season (w/Mixed Motors) – Week #8:
JUNE 24th, 2005 – OSWEGO, NY – Matt Stevens (in his Galletta’s #3) won one of the oddest races in recent history. For the past five to six seasons, the outside groove was the fastest groove on the track. Almost all of the passing was done on the outside, and many times the lower-middle to inside was rarely used successfully. However, with the dry summer that Oswego has had, along with the 5.5+hp invader karts sliding in the turns, the track transformed and the outer groove has become too loose to race on, in some instances with karts spinning or flying off of the track entirely. This caught every competitor by surprise, as they all had to re-learn new grooves in the middle and lower portions of the track. One of the people it caught by surprise was Flippin’ Barrelin’Brian Bortel (in his #15 kart) who took violent flips in both practice and the feature event, injuring his leg in the process and retiring early. Mike Billion (in his #57) secured a second place finish, with Fred Collins (in the Galletta’s #2) having his best race ever getting a solid third place finish in a competitive event. Chris Stevens had quite a race himself. Chris began the race in his Galletta’s #8 with his 5.5hp engine. But when the throttle cable broke, Chris hopped into the Galletta’s #0 and shot through the field, passing a fast and surprised Mark Miller (in his #007) late in traffic for fourth. By being so fast and passing so many karts with a kart that everybody else passed on saying it was “too slow”, Chris again proved that he and Matt do not reserve the fastest karts for themselves and do not rig the race in their favor, contrary to some current AND retired driver’s beliefs. All of the Galletta’s rental karts are fast if the driver isn’t too heavy and knows how to navigate the track (which usually means 200lbs. or less and less than one half a year’s worth of experience). Every single Galletta’s kart has won a few feature events at one time or another in it’s existence. Jason Mills raced his own #9 for the first time on Galletta’s Speedway, but joined Ogre (#4), Shane Miller (#32), Neil Gosch (#44), Ed Meynes (#18), Bob Piazza (#11) and Bortel with various mechanical problems, scoring dreaded, point-killing DNFs.
