8/8/2010 – Randy Platt & Tim Galletta take the “Snooze-U-Lose” Twin 30s! (+YouTube)
2010 Season, Event #10- Sunday, August 8th, 2010 – A “Snooze-U-Lose Twin-30s Night” was in store at Galletta’s Backyard Karting Speedway, and Timothy Galletta became the 1st 2-feature winner of the season (but first in his Sid Harvey’s #54 kart) when he took Feature #1. The 2nd 30-Lapper went top the man who led most of the 1st feature until he broke – Randy Platt (in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #2 kart), fighting off a furious last-lap in-traffic challenge from Matt Stevens. Points, results, pictures and videos:

Per usual, all in-action race snapshots are screen captures directly from our weekly race DVDs, which document the entire race from two camera angles, usually are anywhere between 1-2 hours, and are only $5 each, in higher quality resolution than our YouTube vids which they are made from. Just like the donations that run all of the karts, all proceeds go back into the club (in this case the DVDRs and the website).
Galletta’s Karting Club – 2010 Season, Event #10 – Sunday, August 8th, 2010 Race Recap:
Randi “Bobandi” Platt dominated his pole-starting position in the Galletta’s #2. Randy’s own kart was completed in time for the race, but due to an inability to work out the handling bugs, he just put his motor back on the Galletta’s #2.
Randy was so fast that he was not even in the frame as AJ Nason holds off Chris Stevens, Mike Howell and Tim Galletta in the early going. Chris Stevens, however, broke a chain on his Galletta’s Greenhouse #8 kart, and he hopped into the Galletta’s Greenhouse #5, which was the last kart he won a Galletta’s Klassic with in 2000 and 2001. AJ Nason’s motor needs a bore, as it was showing signs of excessive wear and he parked it to try out the Galletta’s Greenhouse #9 kart.
Randy’s dominance however would not last, as the motor that was just placed on the #2 from his own kart must not have been bolted down securely, as vibrations shook it loose and cost him the race. Eerily reminiscent of the prior week’s race where his axle bent and blew off a chain on almost the very same spot in the back turn. This set up Tim Galletta – who passed Mike “MC” Howell when MC slipped up with the Galletta’s Greenhouse #0 kart just once in turn 4 – for the win. Mike pressured Tim but was unable to score a pass. Tim’s 2nd career win comes in his 2nd year and even 2nd kart, as this one was with his Sid Harvey’s #54 (his prior win was in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #7 on week 2 of this season).
.
Randy’s dominance could not be held in check twice. As the 1st Twin-30 is a traditional Galletta’s-type handicap (First by inverting season wins and secondly by points-per-race), the 2nd Twin-30 is inverting the finish of the 1st Feature. Randy’s 1st-Feature breakdown helped him this time, as he again had the pole and again started to pull away in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #2 kart. That was until Matt and Chris Stevens were able to pass AJ Nason and track him down. Matt challenged Randy in his Galletta’s Greenhouse #33 kart, and on the final two laps, Randy was pressure cooked between lapped traffic and Matty-Joey, but was able to maintain a strong groove and score his 1st career win at Galletta’s Greenhouse Speedway!

Key: Notes:
Scoring: Point scoring scale is found on our rules page, heats are bonus points, and more bonus points are awarded for each lap run in 1st place (1 point per lap) and 2nd & 3rd place (0.5 points per lap). Starts: Regular season race starts are handicapped via inverting (a) feature wins and (b) points-per-race. 2nd of a Twin-30 start is inverted from the 1st finish. Klassic is started via time-trials. Notes:
-
This was the first race where – due to several complaints filed to us last week – alcoholic beverages and intoxicated individuals are prohibited within 10-feet of the track and — joining the obvious prohibition on drivers drinking — flaggers are not allowed to drink. We cannot chance losing drivers and worse yet risk an accident over some beers, whether it be just a volunteer or not. In addition, please do not blame us for the actions of volunteers. We at Galletta’s do not drink and do not condone drinking on the premises. We understand some people want to enjoy a few beers watching a sport, and we have allowed spectators to have a beer or two in the past, but we would prefer you not to drink on the property, and beg everyone to please drink responsibly and *never* drive drunk. This does not mean that anybody is barred, it just means to please drink responsibly and please do not flag, drive or race drunk anywhere near our races. Safety first. Thank you.
-
This race was originally called “The Snooze-U-Lose Twin-30s Night” as suggested by Melissa and agreed to via the attending drivers because, shockingly, many regular competitors did not show for race-time and we originally wanted it to be the one show that will not be available for a make-up-points-race. Our lowest turn-out of the season led to rewarding the drivers who did make it with two point-earning features! Our make-up-race feature instituted this year has been great, but there is a limit to it. As it was announced on the season opener that it is to be used sparingly, and if you look back, it was created to be used only for drivers who miss one or two Sunday races due to work or family, or for people who cant make the Monday rain-dates (because some people can’t make it due to working later on weeknights). It still has been doing a great job at keeping people in the point standings when they would be completely out of it without the chance to make up points. However, in hindsight, we felt like it may be too harsh and rescinded this decision, but only for drivers who indeed are trying to make every show and just could not make this one.
