8/29/2010 – Matt Stevens Passes Shadoe Russell Late to Seal Yet Another 12-kart/45-Lap Win! +YouTube CRASH Video!
Welcome! We are a Karting Club that created an inexpensive alternative to “competitive karting.” We invented and organized a race series of extremely affordable Single Wheel Drive “Gas stocker” karts for a Points championship every summer at Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway. We have over twelve karts, many of which are available to be raced every weekend, so new drivers are always welcome. Hybrid between an WKA-type flat-kart kart (but far cheaper) and a yard kart (but far faster and more durable) built to race on any dirt track – backyard or racing facility – the most affordable professional, competitive karting series in the world. Pro racers who’ve tried it often say they have the most fun racing with us. Tough economy? Race for mere pocket change. We also record every race and make them available on DVD! Want to race? You are invited to join our economical racing club. The weekly karting club race series starts in June and lasts through October. Enjoy the site!
Galletta’s Karting Club – 2010 Season, Event #13 – Sunday, August 29th, 2010:
2010 Season, Event #13- Sunday, August 29th, 2010 – Shadoe Russell led 43 laps right out of the gate Sunday, most of them by a rather large margin. However, there were 45 laps to be scored, and after a late-race restart with a lap to go, Matt Stevens pulled the Galletta’s Greenhouse #3 kart outside of Doe’s #26 and was able to steal a near-perfect race away from the impressive Doe-Boi-Fresh. Plus, a wild ride when last week’s winner Chris Stevens caught AJ Nason’s wheel, went airborne and then blew through a freaking tire-wall! Awesome! Plus, startling revelations occurred in the post-race footage! Details, points & pics/vids forthcoming.
REMINDER – Next Weekend’s race will be Monday for Sunday’s Oswego Speedway’s International Classic 200, since many Galletta’s competitors — including Chris, Matt, Rungnapha and Melissa — go there every Labor Day Sunday. See you next Monday! UPDATE – Next race — originally scheduled for Monday because of Sunday being the Oswego Speedway’s International Classic 200 — is re-scheduled to Sunday because the Oswego Classic was rain delayed to Monday!
Confusing, I know, but it’s how we roll, son. Per usual, other than posing pictures, all in-action race snapshots are screen captures directly from our weekly race DVDs, which document the entire race from usually two camera angles, usually are anywhere between 1 – 2 & 1/2 hours, and are only $5 each, in higher quality resolution than our YouTube vids which they are made from. Just like the donations that run all of the karts, all proceeds go back into the club (in this case the DVDRs and the website). Every regular season race has been videotaped since mid-2005-and-up, and every Galletta’s Karting Klassic has been videotaped since 1998-and-up. Order any DVD directly from Chris (email, phone, in-person, mail) anytime.
10-LAP HEATS / 5-LAP RETCON B-MAIN:
Larry Phillips holding off several competitors in the 1st heat before a tire blew, but AJ led every lap of it from the pole.10-Lap Heat 1 Finish: 1st. AJ Nason (Hammerd #35) 2nd. Mike MC Howell (Galletta’s #0) 3rd. George Russell (Galletta’s #2) 4th. Tim Galletta (Sid Harvey’s #54) 5th. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s #8) 6th. Larry Phillips (L&K Small Engine #04) |
Shadoe dominated the 2nd heat early until he and Russ Hockey wrecked with him on a pass attempt after a restart. Jeff took it from there.10-Lap Heat 2 Finish: 1st. Jeff Tetro (Galletta’s #9) 2nd. Melissa Stevens (SNF #80) 3rd. Russ Hockey (Hockey #00) 4th. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s #3) 5th. Shadoe Russell (Doe #26) 6th. Randy Platt (Platt #187) DNF |
Again, the “Make-Up Race” is a 5-Lap “Retcon” race where drivers who missed a previous feature can still get credit for both a feature event and points for it. They are scored at the end of the race they missed and credited for those point positions. Here is the result:
5-Lap B-Main Handicap Start: 1st. Shadoe Russell (Doe #26) 2nd. AJ Nason (Hammerd #35) 3rd. Russ Hockey (Hockey #00) 4th. MC Howell (Galletta’s #0) 5th. Jeff Tetro (Galletta’s #9) 6th. George Russell (Galletta’s #2) 7th. Randy Platt (Platt #187) 8th. * Larry Phillips (L&K #04) * – Did Not Start |

45-LAP FEATURE EVENT:
Shadoe Russell again started on the pole and again domina-f***ing-ated all and pulled away from AJ and the rest of the field, backing up his trash-talking done to AJ on Facebook all week. Behind Doe-Boy, the battles were found everywhere. The above picture shows Melissa Stevens in her patented middle-groove holding back 5-hard-charging competitors.
Again, although the Doe was fiercely dominating all in 1st, everyone else was fighting like a pack of crazed dogs for 2nd place. Only pros can race open-wheels this close, and anybody who doubts the collective skills of the regular drivers at Galletta’s Karting Club is welcome to come and try racing with us. What we lack in ultra-expensive equipment — by choice — we make up for in pure competitive racing from 1st place to last.
When AJ Nason’s RF tire went flat while running 2nd around mid-race, several drivers started passing him. However, with so many drivers fighting for the same spot, there could be trouble. So, when Chris Stevens’ Galletta’s #4 LR hooked AJ’s RF, it sent Chris hopping airborne and crashing into the tire barriers against a tree, while it knocked AJ straight into Randy Platt, eerily reminiscent of a wreck that occurred the very same weekend three years earlier and dubbed the “Worst Crash Ever Taped At Galletta’s Backyard Karting Speedway” for our YouTube video, but fortunately not as wild as that one. AJ and his #35 was OFTN. Somehow through this mess and some skillful passes afterwards, Matt Stevens somehow slowly but surely emerged in 2nd place, crafty as always, always waiting to strike in his patented low groove that many people try but only he has mastered.
Shadoe had again pulled away, and by the time Matt Stevens passed Mike Howell for 2nd, Doe was ahead by an insurmountable margin. However, with three laps to go, George Russell spun out putting Matt Stevens on Shadoe for a restart. This proved to be Doe-Boy’s downfall, as in trying to unseat Matt as master of the low-groove at Galletta’s, he left the faster upper groove wide open and Matt passed him for the lead with a lap to go, ruining Doe’s nearly perfect bid for his 1st feature win and securing Matt’s 3rd
of the season (and 97th since the 2000 season at Galletta’s). The win hog! Doe-man plots to lead every lap next time, but it was a great run nonetheless. Meanwhile behind them there was almost a tie for both 3rd and 5th, as Tim Galletta snipped MC by a smidge at the line, and directly on their bumpers Chris and Melissa Stevens were also side-by-side, but the camera could not tell conclusively who had the edge (Melissa thought she had it, while Chris thought that either he had it, or it was a dead heat), so a tie was awarded for 5th. In fact, the camera could also not tell who took 3rd, but both MC and Tim agreed that the #54 barely got a partial bumper by the stripe first.
45-Lap Feature Handicap Start: 1st. Shadoe Russell (Doe #26) 2nd. AJ Nason (Hammerd #35) 3rd. Larry Phillips (L&K Sml. Egn. #04) 4th. Russ Hockey (Hockey #00) 5th. Mike MC Howell (Galletta’s #0) 6th. Jeff Tetro (Galletta’s #9) 7th. Melissa Stevens (SNF #19) 8th. Tim Galletta (Sid Harvey’s #54) 9th. George Russell (Galletta’s #2) 10th. Randy Platt (Platt #187) 11th. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s #4) 12th. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s #3) |
