SUNDAY, AUGUST 19th, 2012: Per usual in Mid-August at Galletta’s, we have a midsummer lull in driver turnout. It always seems to have early summer races with the most people, and late-summer/early-fall races we have less people come out. Then, by Klassic, we have possibly the most of the year, but sometimes karts are filled by 1st-Timer/newbie rookies who don’t have much hope and may cause a few wrecks. So, we need drivers racing on a regular basis and a full-field of seasoned drivers by Klassic, people! Only ten drivers showed this past Sunday, but, per usual, this did not stop a tremendous race that saw the lead change six times, and had several battles and wrecks to make things interesting for drivers, spectators, and the video alike. In fact, three 1st-year rookies battled back and forth for the lead most of the feature! But at the end of the day, it was Chris Stevens (posing with his lovely wife and camera-woman, Oswego Price Chopper and SUNY Oswego Sushi Chef Rungnapha “Aou” Stevens) who emerged in first at the end, winning his fourth feature win in four race events! MORE…
YouTube video to this race is currently being produced and is forthcoming done. All picture captures & video clips are directly taken from our weekly DVDs, which are almost always available to buy the day after the race. It’s best to pre-order them so I can have them ready on race day for you.
Above is this race’s menu. For a DVD copy of this race, please e-mail or call Chris Stevens and ask for this week’s race. Each disc is chock full of between 1 to 3 hours of racing in the highest-possible DVD resolution with Dolby Stereo 2.0 with Pro-Logic Surround Sound, predominantly from multiple angles and are only $5 each (discounts available for multiple copies or regular kart Galletta-Kart renters). We accept PayPal or cash, and can either ship or arrange for pickup.
Ten drivers battled (including tow 1st-time-on-track rookies, one of which did not start the feature although he qualified in the heat), although a handful of regular veteran drivers did not show up (Randy? Joe? Justin? These guys are needed on the track!). And although the 2012 crop of rookies are all growing into better drivers week by week, with overall less race experienced drivers on the track, the brothers Chris and Matt are getting to the front quicker and picking up more wins than they have in the past five or six seasons. More veteran drivers needed!!!

Six lead changes between Ruggio, Woolworth, Spanfelner, and Chris Stevens, with the twenty-year-vet brothers Chris and Matt had several back and forth battles coming up through traffic, along with a handful of small wrecks – one of which took out the Galletta’s #4 and forced Chris into his other kart. But Chris took the lead late in that Galletta’s #8 when a fast D.S. Humphrey’s #54 developed sprocket problems in the lead. Matt came up to challenge his brother, and stayed with him for the most part, but not enough for a decent shot at a pass.
Winner of the 50-Lap, 10-Kart Feature Race on 8/19/2012 was Chris Stevens in the Chrusher.com/Galletta’s Greenhouse #8! Matt Stevens started the year with four straight wins, but Chris has repeated this streak with four wins in four events (although a few others also got wins via Twin-30s). He’s closed in on Matt, but he still has a points lead, not to mention two more wins. Hopefully more experienced drivers will show up on raceday to slow the brothers down and get some different people in victory lane, otherwise it will be those two every week and the rookies won’t be able to get some 1st-time wins in.

Key: ^ = Used Make-Up Retcon Races (Heat/Consi/Semi/B-Main race scored as if raced in the back of a previously missed event’s feature or twin features.)
T = Used Time-Outs (3 per driver per season; 5-10 minute break/repair blocks; can be rolled-over to Klassic. Newbie Rookies get one until the become regulars.)
L = Raced Light in handicap kart; Point penalty & warning only, no harsh DQs.
® = Rookie (Inexperienced beginner with less than 1 full season at Galletta’s. NR = Newbie rookie, a 1st-time beginner/novice.)
Notes: Scoring: Point scoring scale is found on our scoring page in addition to our rules page, heats are bonus points, and more bonus points are awarded for each lap run in 1st place (1 point per lap) and 2nd & 3rd place (0.5 points per lap) for regular-season feature races and Klassic 200 (not for heats and Fall Bonus Races). Starts: Regular season race starts are handicapped via inverting (a) feature wins and (b) points-per-race. 2nd of a Twin-30 start is inverted from the 1st finish, minus winners are still inverted . Klassic is started via time-trials.

Galletta's Backyard Go-Kart Speedway is a free-to-race-on and free-to-watch 0.133887 mile dirt oval with 20-degree banked turns . It is located behind Galletta's Greenhouse in Oswego, NY, and can be seen from outer space! The single-wheel-drive gasoline-fueled flathead motor karts take the track between 15-17 seconds per lap which averages over 30 mph (approximately 45-50 mph top speed in the straights). Our speeds are comparable to alcohol/methanol-fueled karts that cost 8 times as much because we use mostly homemade or rebuilt go-karts and gas on a large track; leading to more karts, more competition, and more fun. Our class is usually the largest and most competitive in the area. Thanks to Google Earth for this Spring 2006 photo. Our karting club's home track is located in back of:
