2012 FALL BONUS POINT RACE SERIES
Posted on December 5th, 2012 byGalletta’s All-Time Points listings, that concludes at the end of the season annually. This season, we had three such events – a pre-Klassic shakedown (on 9/24/2012), a post-Klassic rained out race (on 10/13/2012), and the DS Humphreys Twin 35s (on 11/10/2012). All are listed below:
Every year at Galletta’s Backyard Speedway, our regular point season starts in the first race (usually the first Sunday in June) and concludes with the 200-Lap “Klassic Championship” race in either late-September or early-October. Any races after the Klassic are counted as Fall Bonus Point Challenge races. They are their own separate point series, but the points do count towards theThe Galletta’s Karting Club Season 2012 – Volume #17 DVD:
As usual, almost every race at Galletta’s has been recorded from mid-2005-and-up (along with every Klassic from 1998), and all of the footage is available at $5 per disc. This DVD includes all the Fall races, plus the 3rd camera angle (stationary start-finish line cam) of the Klassic 200 – lots of footage, and some good action. An additional disc – Volume #18: Bonus Footage, which includes unused material from the whole season (independent digital camera footage) is also available. What’s on this one? See below:
9/24/2012: Ogie Narrates the Pre-Klassic Shakedown 30
Posted on December 5th, 2012 byOne of the Fall races was before Klassic – not counted for regular points because only a few drivers showed, but it was needed it it to shake down two brand-new karts.
Ogie Stevens is a condescending, generally evil bastard. Narrating the race from the tower angle, he gets as abusive and hateful as ever. Still… it was pretty funny, kinda’. But don’t tell him we said that.
It looked like Brian Galletta was going to win it in his brand-new #13. He broke – in fact, sheared his crankshaft, a first in our 17+ years of racing. Then, it looked like Eric Woolworth was going to win in his brand-new #78. a kart frame that sat on the side of the greenhouse for years, and finally was rebuilt and had a motor slapped on it. Eric was dominating until he got caught sleeping on a restart by Dave Spanfelner, but then Eric broke anyway. And speaking of Dave, he was looking like he may take it, too, until his kart started slowing badly, and he wrecked with two guys he brought out. So… *YAWN*…. it happened again. Matt Stevens came from last to first in the nearly-forgotten, always passed-over, dirty-looking Galletta’s #6 kart. Ooh, that crafty lil’ Matty-Joey!!!
WHOA! A YOUTUBE VIDEO OF IT! YAY!

10/6/2012: 17th Annual Championship 200
Posted on October 7th-December 4th, 2012 bySATURDAY, October 6th, 2012: The 17th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Club Championship 200 just went down. 14 karts, son.
This is NOT a Fall Bonus Point race, but since it is our big point finale, it’s here for your viewing pleasure. Want to see results? Fine. Go see… HERE… NOW!
10/13/2012: Dash-Before-The-Rain 20
ChrusherComix Studios
This race was kind of a stinker. After the Klassic, most of the competitors (and camera people) are burned out after a long, competitive, exhausting season with lots of late-night races (and by this time of year, sometimes cold). Not to mention the controversial finish of the prior weekend’s Klassic left much drama to the point standings – as with an unknown finish, there was no conclusive champion between the club’s co-founding brothers and long-time rival racers, Chris and Matt. But even so, several drivers were ready for more – specifically 1st-season drivers. Problem: The weather didn’t cooperate, and not only did the already chilly race get rain-shortened (to about 20 laps), but the videotape “accidentally got erased, eheh” by Melissa. The above snapshot — a split second screenshot of it before the rest got taped over — is the only evidence we have that it even existed.
10/13/2012 Post-Klassic Rain-Shortened 25(?) Finish:
1st. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta #13) 2nd. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3) 3rd. Dave Spanfelner (DS Humphrey’s #81) 4th. Melissa Stevens (SNF #80; Galletta’s Greenhouse #4) 5th. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #78) 6th. Mike Ledger (Brian Galletta #28) |

The above and below features also became somewhat historic… these were the very 1st feature races at Galletta’s that Matt Stevens ever entered without Chris that Matt did not win. What many people don’t know is that Chris is very adept at battling Matt and even if his kart is a little slower, he knows how to hold off Matt’s pass attempts better than anybody (not by racing dirty and crashing, but by knowing his preferred lines and areas he likes to attempt to get momentum up and attempt slingshot passes, so he knows where to put his kart to make a pass extremely difficult to impossible), and has also passed Matt more than anybody [he makes so few mistakes, so rarely is he EVER passed unless he’s gambling for a pass himself, hits a loose part of the track, or has a malfunction but Chris has done it more than anyone]. Racing two decades against someone, you’ll learn all their tricks). Well, every race that Chris didn’t enter, Matt blew by everyone easily and won going away, because Chris was not there to slow him down and/or block him. Like in a sport, even if you can’t stop him, you can at least hope to contain him and limit his damage — something Chris is Matt’s only true rival at (minus a handful of very good drivers who don’t race enough to do it enough). So there’s only been a dozen or so of these races, which Matt won all easily. But for the 1st time ever… Matt didn’t win these. In fact, one was rain-shortened, and the others he broke and retired (so technically, his record is still intact, as he didn’t FINISH the race).
11/10/2012: 1st Annual D.S. Humphreys Twin-35s Fall Bonus Race
ChrusherComix Studios
SATURDAY, November 10th, 2012: Ten karts – including a handful of new DS Humphreys invitational rookies – battled for seventy laps in the first ever DS Humphreys sponsored Fall Twin-35s race on 11/10/2012! Brian Galletta took the 1st feature in his brand-new #13 (his 2nd win of 2012), while Dave Spanfelner picked up his 1st career feature win in his DS Humphreys #54.
The first feature had some good battles with Dave Spanfelner, Eric Woolworth, and Brian Galletta taking shots at the lead, but Dave and Eric both broke and Brian Galletta was too fast for anyone else to deal with. This is the 2nd Fall race in a row that Eric Woolworth looked fast enough to win going away, but broke while up front.
11/10/2012 D.S. Humphrey’s Twin-35 #1 Finish:1 st. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta Racing #13) 2nd. Brad Rees (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) 3rd. Joe Buske (Brian Galletta Racing #28) 4th. Kim Rees (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6) 5th. Russel Crutchley (Galletta’s Greenhouse #1) 6th. Adam Lytle (Adam Lytle Racing #33c) 7th. Clue Gilman (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9) 8th. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #02) – DNF 9th. Dave Spanfelner (DS Humphrey’s #81) – DNF 10th. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3) – DNF |

Assorted in-action shots show Brian Galletta, Matt Stevens, Eric Woolworth, and Joe Buske try to pass Dave Spanfelner.
The 2nd feature had a lot of bumper-to-bumper and wheel-to-wheel grinding between Dave Spanfelner, Eric Woolworth, Joe Buske, Brian Galletta, and Matt Stevens. However, although Eric came close to getting the pass, he broke and Dave held off everyone else for his 1st career feature win. Congrats, Dave!
