2017/10/13 – 22nd Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Go-Karting Klassic 200 [+YouTube Video]
October 13th, 2017 – The Galletta’s Greenhouse Go-Karting Club completed it’s 22nd season with another 200-lap Klassic. It was down between the big three drivers all season — veteran brother duo of Chris and Matt Stevens, and impressive young gun Josh Arnold. Kelly Miller returned from taking almost the entire year off (assisting his son, Steven Perez in stock car racing) to time-trial the pole, and for the 1st 150 laps it was all Kelly (until his kart broke down) and Matt Stevens (until he decided to refuel on lap 150), until Chris Stevens once again proved to be the champion of kart and fuel conservation to inherit the lead and hold off Josh and Matt en route to another Track Championship and Klassic Championship sweep! Josh Arnold also sealed his Visitor’s Track Championship with a 3rd place finish.
10/13/2017 – 22nd Annual Galletta’s Klassic Time Trial Session
Each driver is given two laps under the clock in order of total points of the season (unless driver/kart is not ready). If a driver has raced most of the season(or their lead kart has a terminal problem), they allowed to time a second kart and choose the one they wish to drive (with the fastest time in that particular kart). The best time in the kart they select to drive is taken.
10/13/2017 – 22nd Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Go-Karting Klassic 200 Starting Lineup:
1. Kelly Miller (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9)
2. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3)
3. Josh Arnold (Arnie #93)
4. ® Robert Swan (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
5. Chris Stevens (GallettasGreenhouse.com/Chrusher.com/OswegoSushi.com #4)
6. ® Newbie John Parkhurst (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5)
7. Lee Gleason (Gleason #29)
8. ® Steven Perez (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
9. Melissa Stevens (SNF #80)
10. ® Rob Vanderhaden (Galletta’s Greenhouse #78)
® = Rookie: 1st Season w/on-track experience
Newbie = Rookie: 1st time in kart AND on track.
Note: All drivers with at least 1 career feature win are allowed to time-trial more than one kart (and choose the best time of whatever kart they elected to run — as long as it was the time in that kart) if they own it or pay for the rental. Chris Stevens’ #8 was handling poorly, and he timed his #4, which timed better, and rather than hold up the show fixing the handling on the #8, he elected to race the #4. No other qualified driver chose to time the 2nd kart.

Key: ® = Newbie / Rookie to our races (less than a season of races on our track) * = Makeup Feature Used (heat race for bonus points to earn towards a feature missed earlier in the season) T = Mid-Race Timeout Used (One allowed per newbie, three allowed per regular driver per season, additional ones earned via 100% attendance and/or regular feature wins) k = Mid-Race Kart Change Used (includes a point penalty per change)
Fun (or sad?) facts about 2017 Season:
- – Only 5 of 34 drivers attended at least HALF of the season’s races (a 14 year low).
- – Only 4 of 34 drivers raced in every event (a 14 year low).
- – 21 of 34 drivers were rookies (Either 1st time drivers or drivers with less than one season of races [on the Galletta’s track], another a 14 year record).
- – Half of the regular season events were cancelled due to not enough drivers in attendence on race day (A 22 year high).
- – Klassic was postponed three weeks due to not enough drivers committing (a 15 year record).
- – A handful of drivers did not pay, but a few of them negotiated deals with Matt. Paying entry/kart rental doesn’t always mean money for gas + part-wear. Sometimes it includes chipping in with track/kart work, donating karts or kart parts and/or gas for the karts or track work, and/or bringing paying drivers to race and fill seats when we are low on drivers. The track and karts run on nominal BARE BONES donations and if drivers don’t pay their fair share, Matt will try and cover it, but property owner Mary Stevens covers it if he cannot (which happens every year because the donations NEVER cover costs, especially when nobody shows and/or some show and don’t pay). Maybe some people think it’s fun and games to break karts and burn gas and Matt doesn’t deserve the money, and if you fell that way then try running a track and 15-20 karts for friends/family on your own dime and get back to us, thanks.
’17 KLASSIC NOTES:
- – Four drivers made it to the last lap.
- – All drivers that made it to lap 200 refueled except Chris Stevens (which essentially won him the race).
- – Two drivers made it to the last lap on the lead lap — Chris and Matt Stevens.
- – John Arnold and Robert Swan were penalized 1 lap and 10 points each for the Klassic change-your-kart-after-a-breakdown rule. This rule has existed since after the 2010 season, the one and only time that a driver broke one kart, changed into a second one and won a Klassic, and some drivers and while the victory stood because those were the rules and every driver could have done it, spectators in following years felt it was unfair for a driver to get a fresher kart without penalty. If one can take the fresher kart and pass everyone on track (or inherit your lucky dog lap back if everyone else broke or refueled), then they would get back on the lead lap and have a shot. It made sense to every active driver … until now, where ONE rookie apparently was offended. If one does not like this rule (and only Robert Swan protested it by NOT PAYING and even ARGUING with Matt on the phone because he broke not one but TWO karts before lap 185), it must be discussed BEFORE the race and voted upon, but it was enacted so that drivers who save their gas and save their karts for the end are rewarded while those who abuse and break karts (and the rewarded by jumping into another, “fresher” kart) are not given an advantage over those who made it to the end on one kart and one tank of gas. Regular season, it is a point penalty as we want to be inclusive and it’s hard to come from the rear in a 2nd kart in a shorter race, but a long race, so many things can happen, and with so many points (and a Championship) at stake requires sterner rules, thus postseason it is a point penalty and loss of a lap. Quite frankly, to be angry about this shows you’ve never raced anything else, because if you did, and you broke a kart and denaded the race stop for you to get a 2nd kart and go back out, they’d laugh t you and say some pretty unflattering things. Do not mistake our usual leniency (because we allow it in the regular season) as stupidity. And by not paying, no apology, and no willing to meet in the middle, you show your character. And hint: It’s one of the lesser ones in our two decade racing history. Congrats! We can and will alter the website if he ever came forth with an apology and paid off his debt, but… nobody is holding their breath.
- – Robert Swan, Rob V, Kelly Miller, and Steven Perez did not pay and owe Matt Stevens kart repair/gas money by the end of the season. Considering the four left six broken karts between, burned gas and that Matt used his PERSONAL MONEY to cover their costs (that included Christmas money for his family), it was extremely disappointing and disrespectful to the GKC and their families. Matt did negotiate a deal with a few of them, but one (Robert Swan) refused and blamed Matt because he had 2 karts break down. They will be unable to race in further races and be marked on the website as “unpaid” until paid up. I would have disqualified them with 0 points each until paid up, but this would just simply make it harder on me when they paid up and I’d have to add in points afterwards. This incident has enacted a new rule that we used to let slide: No drivers will be allowed to start a kart until Matt is paid IN FULL from here on out.
- – Robert Swan was penalized an additional -20 points for unsportsmanlike conduct (did not pay after using [and breaking] two karts, and argued with Matt Stevens–the head kart mechanic, track official, and all-time points and wins leader in ALL karting divisions of Oswego, NY history who THANKLESSLY will put a FAST kart under your butt that HE and ANYBODY with any skill could win a race in–over the rules, track lines, and durability of the karts).
- – Due to the lack of drivers making it most of the year, we are now no longer scheduling weekly races UNLESS WE KNOW BEFOREHAND THAT WE HAVE ENOUGH DRIVERS. Matt had a PAINFUL year of kart and track prep with more than half of the season only 2-3 racers showing up despite saying they would, and then some people didn’t even pay for his kart and track services even when they did show up. If I were my brother, I would be MUCH more vocal against this disrespectful and actually purposefully hurtful activity. But since this is primarily my brother’s hobby, I will keep it at that. – Webmaster Chris
ALL-TIME GALLETTA’S KARTING CLUB & SPEEDWAY ALL-TIME POINT STANDINGS AFTER THE 2017 SEASON & KLASSIC
Drivers all-time stats at two of Oswego, New York’s Dirt Karting Tracks: – Our own Galletta’s Greenhouse Backyard Karting Speedway (est. 1995; counted from 2000-2017) in green, and… – the Oswego Kartway’s 1-WD Gas Division (formerly known as Oswego Speedway Dirt Track, est. 2006; counted from 2006-2008) in orange.
You can scroll the chart left, right, up and down to see all 337 different drivers on record. Of note, the Oswego Kartway deleted all references to our division after the conclusion of the 2008 season after barring our division from the program, so this website is the only way to know our points and videos on the track. Kartway’s stats are not tallied into the Galletta’s stats on the below chart:
Key: Bold = Active in last season; ® = Rookie (less than 10-17 races on track).

9/28/2017 - Matt Stevens Annual Pre-Klassic Personal Time Trial Session
Every year, head mechanic Matt Stevens preps all of the karts at Galletta's and attempts to get them all up to par and ready to go in our 200 lapper. Matt preps every kart as if it was his own and as if he was going to drive it for the race, and the only karts he gives preference to are the ones that are the slowest, and he tries to get them fast enough to compete with any of the others and the ones that are the fastest he doesn't do as much to. And ANY of the karts can win with a good driver at the helm. He usually does his job well, as at the fact of the matter is that he has won a feature in nearly every kart he owns and has driven (most of the Galletta Team karts, with the exception of his brother's and maybe his wife's; and they won in theirs anyway, and every Galletta's Team kart has won with either him or someone else driving it) and pretty much any kart that has ever won, he either built or helped with the set up.

10/13/2017 - The 22nd Annual Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200!
Friday, October 13th, 2017 - Our 22nd Annual Galletta's Go-Karts 200-Lap Klassic Championship FINALLY went down after a near month of delays due to lousy driver attendence, occasional bad weather, colds, and other strange anomolies. We actually had to schedule it on a Friday due to all the delays, otherwise risk weather not cooperating and losing more drivers than we already could muster. And it wound up being one of the best and most climatic races in Klassic history, which is what we hope for all of them. Above is the unedited race video for your viewing pleasure!
Flexible Schedule
UpdateResults!Every week we have a "Flexible Schedule" to try and get as inclusive as possible getting more drivers on the track. We're open to many days and many times in this quest for more drivers -- old veteran racers, newbie rookies, vets of other race divisions in the area looking to have fun racing equalized karts and everything between. Around 20 arrive-and-drive karts with most of them sitting idle without drivers and only $25 to race them for 50-70 laps a week (prices higher for the Klassic 200 Lapper). 6-or-more constitutes as a points race that will be video recorded for the website. We hold and extremely open and inclusive schedule because we have had such low driver turnout most (almost all) of this season. With higher driver turnout, we can be MUCH firmer on creating a schedule and holding an accurate start time because we won't be waiting for a bare-bones minimum driver field. Regular season starts are usually flexible between 5-7pm, Klassic 200 should start time trials between 12pm and 1pm, the 200 starting shortly after then. We are in search of new rookie drivers (we have all-rookie races for groups) and returning retired/semi-retired vets. Come on up!
Schedule for the next month... Well, let's see how being so open and inclusive helped out our race schedule, shall we?:10/7/2017 - Race Cancelled Due to Lack of Driver Availability & Klassic Prep Week III
Saturday, October 7th, 2017 - Matt had originally loosely scheduled the Klassic 200 for Saturday, September 23rd, then firmly for 30th, then sternly for October 7th and then..... WELL, WELL, WELL... FOR THE 9TH TIME IN 18 WEEKENDS SINCE OUR JUNE OPENER... WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DRIVERS YET AGAIN! WOW! SURPRISE. HALF OF THE RACE SEASON HAS BEEN CANCELLED?! Why? Not weather! Nope. Not karts! No, plenty of those. Nope,... NO DRIVERS! And people got mad when I said everybody quit? Sure looks like it. Well, here we go, we gonna' try again and see! The 22nd Annual Galletta's Klassic 200 is now scheduled for Friday, October 13th, 2017 and if people no-show for that, then we'll try again on Saturday, October 7th, 2017! If people no-show for that, then eventually it will just be Matt, Chris and Josh for 200 laps in a rainstorm or snowstorm and that's it, as they have been the only 3 showing any skill and determination at racing at all every single race all season.
9/30/2017 - Race Cancelled Due to Weather, Lack of Driver Availability & Klassic Prep Week II
Saturday, September 30th, 2017 - Matt had originally scheduled the Klassic 200 for Saturday, September 30th, but between bad weather (cold & rain), a bout of stubborn respiratory/head colds going around AND only 2-3 visiting veterans available to race led to a wise decision to delay. He did, however, get the personal time trial session in for all but 3 of the karts, and that is found here. is now scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, 2017!
[10/1/2017 Update: The regular season points are finished. Due to work (and low driver turnout) , it took a little longer than expected, but it is now here. (And will be time trial order for Klassic 200). The Klassic usually concludes our point standings [although we do count Fall races as All-Time points IF we have them, but we've had such inconsistent (and often poor) weekly attendance this season that we likely won't be able to have any]. -Webmaster Chris]
9/23/2017 - Race Cancelled Due to Lack of Driver Availability & Klassic Prep Week
Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 - Matt Stevens elected this to be an off-week due to his daughter’s birthday and most of our regular veteran drivers seemingly ONLY wanting to race Klassic (if that?) and nothing else. However, the 9/16/2017 race video was completed and the points are being processed (they were actually almost done, when a computer glitch unsaved finished work and I have to find time to re-do it). Also, I’ve been delayed due to work and family stuff, further compacted by, having to play catch up and finish two (of the most exciting races in our history – the 2013 Klassic 200 that had a showdown between Kelly Miller and Chris & Matt Stevens, and the 2015 Klassic 200 which had a showdown between Kyle Reuter and Chris & Matt Stevens!) videos before the YouTube video editor was removed from service (which was the primary editor I used and how I was able to edit hundreds of our race videos dating back from 1998-2017 in the last year and a half). But the points WILL be done before our next race. Thanks! -Webmaster Chris
