Galletta’s Karting Club – 2009 Season, Week 8:

Melissa Stevens picked up her third career feature win on Monday – “THE SHOVELER DIDN’T MAKE IT 60″ – and this makes her the 10th different winner in 11 feature races this season at Galletta’s. Plus, the top 3 in points are sure to be even closer after the points are tallied.
But 1st…
Our SUNDAY, AUGUST 2nd, 2009 show was postponed to Monday due to rain, as you can see. Russ tried to go, but to no avail (yes, that lake really was our turn 2 Sunday). Talk about “real” racing!
Also, apparently earlier in the week, some cowardly, illiterate, raving lunatic madman from the Oswego Kartway mocked us, personally attacked me, and was allegedly plotting to come on up and crack all of our skulls in with a sharpened shovel! Joy! But, wait… he didn’t show. Regardless, the entire story of why someone would even threaten us with such an asinine, ignorant, stupid, classless and immature threat won’t make sense under normal circumstances, but it is related to irrational red-necks at the local track that our club supported and raced at for it’s first three full years (from it’s initial late 2005 exhibition through late 2008’s Classic), and they kicked us out for personal reasons. The entire story between the checkered past of the Galletta’s Karting Club and the Oswego Speedway’s Dirt Kartway is located here, and judge for yourself if you will, their anger and mockery is justified? Must’ve been some belligerent, drunk, pot-smoking, worker’s-compensation fraud, hotheaded redneck, embezzling, gangster-wanna’-be confirmed cheat at the Oswego Kiddie Clique Fartway.
August 3rd, 2009 60-Lap Finish:
1st. Melissa Stevens (Stevens #80)
2nd. Russ Hockey (Hockey #00)
3rd. Buddy Cottom (Galletta’s #6, 1, 2, 5)
4th. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s #4)
5th. Matthew Stevens (Galletta’s #3, 7)
6th. Larry Phillips (L&K Engine #04)
7th. Dan Woodard (Woodard #5 = **)
8th. Fred Collins (Galletta’s #9)
9th. Gary Miller (Miller #24, Galletta’s #0; DNF)
** = Dan Woodard used a stock 6.5hp OHV motor. Under normal circumstances, OHVs are allowed to run, but his placement had no change to the gas flathead points race. Just like Dick Dann the previous week who experimented with methanol, Dick and Dan scored points, but nobody else was affected points-wise. It would be great for Dan to come out on a regular basis with a gas flathead, and Matt can work with them to get them to the perfect speed – which is the same as everybody else, or if more stock 6.5hp OHVs came back, they could have their own separate class, or race in our class counting points and wins separately.
2009 Gas Flathead Dirt Karting Championship of Oswego Point Standings:
After 8 combined events at John J. Galletta Memorial Go-Kart Speedway from 6/8/2009 -thru- 8/3/2009.
Our complete Points Standings from the prior eight seasons are found on this webpage.
NOTES: All karts are 1-WD and all Motors are 1-WD 5hp Gas Flatheads with Stock ’90s Carb, shaved head, and select pre-approved Dyno Racing Cams (different weight requires different ones allowed). This means fast, equal speeds and, cheater-free engine-builders, all for low prices. Two karts so far this season were not gas flatheads (a methanol flathead with raptor carb and a gas stock 6.5hp OHV), and they scored their full points but their placement did not penalize anybody else with the same gas flathead motor, who were scored as if the other motored kart was not there.
NEW CHANGE IN THE POINTS THIS WEEK: Also, we have not been docking points for drivers hopping into an unused backup karts after their starter kart breaks during a race. Since Matt demanded this, the points this week are adjusted to penalize -5 pts. per first kart switch (and -1 point per additional kart switch in the same race), and -10 points for a medium/light driver switching into a “heavy handicap kart” (the #7 and #0 if you are under 200 lbs.). Oddly, although Matt demanded the rule to be enforced – and we had to go back and dock points for every kart switch so far this season – Matt lost the most points (-25), then Buddy (-12), then Chris and Gary (-10 each), and then finally Russ and Nick (-5 each). Henceforth, we will re-enact the rule, which was in use for the past two seasons.
