11/8/2009 – Fall Bonus Points Race ’09 Finale won by Matt Stevens (+YouTube)
Galletta’s Karting Club – 2009 Season, Race Event 18:
Sunday, November 8th, 2009 in Oswego, NY – Fall “Bonus Points“ Race
November 8th, 2009 – Every season at Galletta’s, we race weekly starting in in June, race weekly until our 200-lap Klassic. After that, our Fall series takes place (weather and driver availability dependent) that add bonus points into the All-Time Points list. On November 8th, 2009, we held such a race.
Every season at Galletta’s Backyard Karting Speedway, we start our season in June, and race every weekend until we end our points season with our 200-lap Galletta’s Go-Kart Klassic. However, when the weather is good and enough drivers are interested, we hold a race that we add bonus points into the All-Time Points list. On November 8th, 2009, we held such a race.
Tim Galletta used his points handicap to start on the pole and held his own in the lead for many laps. He fought off challenges from Gary Miller and Chris Stevens — who battled back and forth in for 2nd –until Matt Stevens used a slingshot move at the perfect moment when Gary and Chris were bunched up behind Tim to go from 4th to 2nd and then into 1st a few laps later. As usual, if Matt makes it into the lead, he is near-impossible to beat, as every local karter of note has tried and failed, and many just stick to local WKA events to avoid him.
11/8/2009 40-Lapper – Final Order of Finish:
1st – Matt Stevens #3 (+110 bonus points)
2nd – Gary Miller #24 (+105 bonus points)
3rd – Chris Stevens #4 (+100 bonus points)
4th – George Russell #2 (+95 bonus points)
5th – Tim Galletta #7 (+90 bonus points)
6th – Shadoe Russell #26 (+85 bonus points)
7th, 8th, 9th, = Scheduled, but DNS (Did Not Start)
11 drivers were originally scheduled, but only 6 raced (one got injured in his garage before the race, one had an abscessed tooth and left early, two did not show, and another was cooking). We usually only race with a minimum of 10 DRIVERS IN ATTENDANCE AND DAYTIME, and unless we have more drivers along with decent weather, this will be the final race until the first Sunday in June 2010.
We thank all of the forty-eight drivers who raced with us this year at Galletta’s, and hope all of you and more join us weekly next season in the undisputedly most experienced, longest-running, and most economical karting class in Oswego County, and most parts of the country. And, WKA-ers… you haven’t truly won a karting race unless you have also won our endurance-building races in a gas flathead kart at Galletta’s! If you don’t believe us, try it, or ask someone who has won here. When the $500 karts are equalized and the driver skills are needed to compete for wins, it is a more hard-earned win in an 8-15 kart, 30-120 minute race than winning a 5-10 minute race in a $5,000 kart beating a handful of people who only spent $1,000-4,000. Try it!
Again, the points are finalized after the Klassic, but Fall “bonus” points are earned after the Klassic and added into the All-Time list when the season is complete. For fun, I added the post-Klassic races into the season tally here. (Good thing its over because Matt was creeping up on me after winning that last one. Thanks for plowing me off the track so Matt could get by me, Gary! Haha!)
