9/17/2011: A F***ed-Up 45

Posted on September 18th, 2011 by ChrusherComix Studios

Randy Platt takes his Platt-Num #187 into Victory Lane on 9/17/2011!\

A F**-Up 45 (I saw Brian go FLYING!)SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th, 2011: In a day that saw the start time change from 4pm to 5pm to 6pm and finally 7pm as we scrambled to get the Platt-Num #28 race-ready for intended buyer Brian Galletta (only to see it break the drive wheel right off at the axle bolt during the race… ugh), and the a twin-35 night get turned to Twin-30s and then finally a single 45, we just had a long, weird race day, intended to be the last regular show before Klassic (unless our schedule changes, and right now it is OPEN to include as many drivers as possible on a Saturday with a Sunday raindate). It finished with Joe Sereno dominating only to lose a throttle cable in the lead and Randy Platt hold off everybody else in the extremely close and competitive 45-Lapper. Sorry that the pics, descriptions, points and videos are so slow of late, but the webmaster being busy with work and being slightly sleep deprived is slowing all this stuff down! Read on, muthaf*****!

DVD Highlight YouTube Video

Posted on September 26th, 2011 by ChrusherComix Studios

[VIDEO FORTHCOMING: COME BACK SOON.. er, maybe… um… YES! I DID IT!]

YouTube video to this race is currently being produced and is forthcoming. All picture captures & video clips are directly taken from our weekly DVDs, which are almost always available to buy the day after the race. It’s best to pre-order them so I can have them ready on race day for you. The YouTube highlight reels are cool bonuses to these discs, but the webmaster is so delayed… sigh…

Above is this race’s menu. For a DVD copy of this race, please e-mail or call Chris Stevens and ask for this week’s race. Each disc is chock full of between 1 to 3 hours of racing in the highest-possible DVD resolution with Dolby Stereo 2.0 with Pro-Logic Surround Sound, predominantly from multiple angles and are only $5 each (discounts available for multiple copies or regular kart Galletta-Kart renters). We accept PayPal or cash, and can either ship or arrange for pickup.

45-LAP FEATURE EVENT – PRE-KLASSIC TUNER RACE:

Our last scheduled race before the 16th Annual Klassic 200 Championship (the ONLY true championship of karting in Oswego (don’t let pricey 3-8 kiddie-karts going 40-50 laps on an overpriced/over-hyped kiddie kart track let you think you’ve won anything other than winning the track some extra money and yourself a swelled head), a special Saturday show was an 8-kart extravaganza. The show was delayed four hours while the Platt-itude #28 was being rebuilt for new owner Brian Galletta, and waiting for the arrival of a few more drivers who were scheduled to make this final tune-up before our annual 200-lap championship race.

Starting Lineup:
Pos. | Driver (Karts driven) | 2011 Wins

  1. Joe Sereno (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5) [1 win]
  2. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) [1 win]
  3. Randi Platt (Platt-itude #187) [1 win]
  4. Melissa Stevens (Scissors N Fur #80)  [2 wins]
  5. Tim Galletta (Galletta #54) [3 wins]
  6. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)  [6 wins]
  7. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #4, 8) [3 wins]
  8. Brian Galletta (Platt-itude #287) DNS

{NR} = 1st Time on track / Newbie; Inexperienced Rookie
DNS = Did Not Start – Arrived late & started seven laps down.

Normally 8 karts isn’t that bad of a field (at least for most local karting classes), but we’re an experienced lot of drivers that are all greedy for as much competition as we can fit on track. We were originally due for a 10-kart race, but two drivers were unable to make it at the Nth hour. Several vets are penciled in for Klassic though, which is looking like at least 11 drivers locked in and several rental karts wide open (don’t forget that Kyle Reuter – old-school Galletta’s Karting Club aureate and undisputed champion of the local kiddie-Kartway from 2008-2010 – won the Klassic in an unused/ignored rental kart, effectively proving that all those alleged drivers and race-fans in the local area who know about our races and think up of a million whiney excuses as to not come out and watch or race really are afraid wussies who can’t drive and know we’re better. He’ll be back to defend his 2010 Klassic 200 title, which he called, “The most fun I’ve ever had in a race!” and added, “I can’t believe I won it!”)

One of the reasons for the name of this race was the fact that MANY things went wrong, which is why Matt and his racing park assistants needed 2 weeks to prepare our ever-growing stable of over a dozen karts and the track for the 200 Lapper. In addition to the long delay in fixing the #28 and waiting for a few drivers, the Galletta’s #7 had to be retired early due to a developing knock, forcing Justin into the #9 (which he then flipped off turn 4 and retired for the evening), the Galletta’s #4 spitted-and-sputtered to an early retirement (carb screws falling out) forcing Chris Stevens into the Galletta’s #8 (which was developing a smoking problem as well), and long-suffering Joe Sereno snapped a throttle cable in the Galletta’s #5 while dominating with a big lead (not the 1st time this has happened to Joe, who also lost a pack of cigs all over the track during the warm-up session!). But it didn’t end there….

Brian Galletta, driving his new purchase – the Platt-itute #28 built by his buddy Randy Platt – snapped the drivewheel axle bolt at the weld and went for a wild flip in turn 1.

"Ow! Butt hurt!"

The drivewheel wanted to keep going though, as it drove halfway down the back stretch! Brian was okay, but was violated inappropriately by a weight bar on the #28 (which says, “Take it!” and ,”Muthaf***ah'” on it), which may lead it to be added to the Sex Offender List. Seriously, despite the fact that the kart is wicked fast, it badly needed a lot of weld reinforcements, which has been taking place all week after the race and should be ready to rock the 200.

Randy “Bobandi” Platt, who inherited the lead after the #7 and #5’s breakdowns (and whose weld saw to Brian’s early-race departure as well, heheh), took another easy win. Here Chris Stevens shakes his fist and points at Randy to purposefully ruin his victory lap because that’s how I roll, homie.

Final Order of Finish:

  1. Randi Platt (Platt-itude #187) [2 wins]
