6/19/2015 – Twin-35’s swept by R&C Sushi Bar Crew – Eric Woolworth & Chris Stevens!
FRIDAY, JUNE 19TH, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – After the Sunday, June 14th, 2015 race was rained out (due to a track that didn’t dry all week and a few showers showing up before all the drivers arrived), and Sunday, June 21st, 2015 looking to have more rain, we had an emergency pre-emptive strike race. And due to missing last weekend, it was scheduled to be a twin-feature event. And some excellent racing on a nice track was in store! The 1st race had Keith Raymond leading strong in his Good Guys Barbershop #88… until disappointingly a motor let loose. Eric Woolworth then took the lead and held off Matt Stevens, Adam Lytle and Chris Stevens for the win. Then, in the 2nd feature, Keith again led this time in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #6 and looked again like he was going to take the checker. But the 1st win for Keith is proving extremely elusive, as he got sideways fending off Matt and Chris Stevens, and then opened up the track for Chris Stevens to take off and hide in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #0 for the win. This means that 2/3rds of the Oswego, NY Price Chopper R&C Sushi Bar Chef crew swept the features! (If only Rungnapha ‘Aou’ Stevens raced too! ???? ) Updated points, pictures are up and a YouTube video will be coming soon, so check back daily!
In a stunning turn of events – Ray Castaldo triumphs!
In a moment of complete delusional grandeur bordering on insanity, before the feature could start, one Raymond Castaldo grabbed the checkered flag and proceeded to take a victory lap. He claims that he won in a most triumphant fashion. Puzzling. He may have won an uncontested hot lap all by himself, but reports were not yet confirmed.
35-Lap Feature #1 [Makeup for 6/14/2015 rainout]
Start:
1. Keith Raymond (Good Guys Barbershop #88)
2. Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19) [Elected to start in last]
3. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #88)
4. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c)
5. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
6. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi LLC/Chrusher.com #4)
7. Kevin Galletta (Galletta Bros. #28)
8. Ray Castaldo (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
9. George Sweeting (Sweeting #81)
In the early going, Keith Raymond looked strong in the #88, which got a tune-up during the week [inset pics]. But that 1st career feature victory keeps proving elusive for Keith, as a piston rod let loose while leading. Adam Lytle (#33c) also continues his steady driving, holding off Matt (#33) and Chris (#4) in the early going.
The Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi/Chrusher.com #4 has a yet-to-be-diagnosed left rear drive-wheel problem dating back to the 2014 Klassic 200, where the un-retired Wesley “TrOgre” Stevens ran it until a tire went soft and the chain popped. The chain popped off on Chris in the early going, so he had to continue in his regular starter kart, the Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi/Chrusher.com #8. [inset pic] Meanwhile, after the #88’s motor issues relegated Keith to a spectator for the remainder of the feature, Eric Woolworth took command of the lead and sought his 1st feature win of the season.
Eric Woolworth defends his 2nd weekend win streak, holding off the tricky multi-time overall Oswego Karting champion Matt Stevens at the stripe. Adam Lytle and Chris Stevens followed closely behind.
Finish:
1. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #88)
2. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #33)
3. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c)
4. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s/R&C Sushi/Chrusher.com #4; #8)
5. Kevin Galletta (Galletta Bros. #28)
6. George Sweeting (Sweeting #81; Galletta’s Greenhouse #7)
7. Keith Raymond (Good Guys Barbershop #88) = DNF (Blown Motor)
8. Ray Castaldo (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) = DNF (Driver decision)
9. Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19) = DNF (Driver decision)
35-Lap Feature #2 [Preemptive for potential rain out on 20th Annual Father’s Day 6/21/2015 race]
Per usual, our 2nd of a twin feature race inverts the finish of the 1st feature, except feature winners in the back to ensure a higher chance of non-winners to win.
Start:
1. Keith Raymond (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
2. Kevin Galletta (Galletta Bros. #28)
3. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c)
4. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3)
5. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #0)
6. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #88)
7. George Sweeting (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) [elected to start rear]
8. Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19) = DNS
9. Ray Castaldo (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5) = DNS
The 2nd feature again had Keith Raymond on the pole and dominate the early going, this time in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #6. From there, Keith held off challenges from Adam Lytle, Chris Stevens, and Matt Stevens. Chris Stevens has been getting off to great starts thus far, and again he pulled a multi-kart pass on the opening lap – from 5th to 3rd. Eventually Chris and Matt traded places a few times in 2nd looking for a way around Keith but to no avail.
Then, Keith Raymond got sideways in between turns 3 & 4 with Chris Stevens high and Matt Stevens low. As luck sometimes plays a part in these races, Chris evaded the incident and took the lead high, while Keith and Matt slowed up so badly that they went from 1st and 3rd to 4th and 5th in one turn! (We’re sorry we were unable to get a better view, we had zero camera operators and two stationary cameras for the 2nd feature.)
Chris then ran away with the race to secure his 2nd win of the season, this time in the very fast Galletta’s Greenhouse #0, which he ran to a strong 2nd in the 2014 Klassic 200.
Finish:
1. Chris Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #0)
2. Kevin Galletta (Galletta Bros. #28)
3. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #88)
4. Keith Raymond (Galletta’s Greenhouse #6)
5. Matt Stevens (Galletta’s Greenhouse #3)
6. Adam Lytle (Lytle #33c)
7. George Sweeting (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) = DNF
8. Melissa Stevens (Scissors n’ Fur #19) = DNS
9. Ray Castaldo (Galletta’s Greenhouse #5) = DNS
A tremendous race season thus far. Clean, dramatic, close racing! If there is only one complaint… it is… MORE DRIVERS NEEDED! The racing is fantastic, but the more the merrier! As for the points, well here they are tallied up after the 1st two events of the 2015 season…

6/26/2015 – Preemptive Strike! Sunday 6/28/2015’s Race is re-scheduled to Friday 9/26/2015!
Next race was originally scheduled for Sunday, July 28th, 2015 at 7pm has been preemptively moved. Due to what appears to be yet another wet weekend in the Oswego area (we simply cannot remember a cooler and rainier June in our lives!), we are going for yet another preemptive race set for Friday, June 26th, 2015 at 7pm. Besides… there is no other local karting event at that time worth going to other than Galletta’s, so why not? 😉 [ZING!] See you there!
Handicapping for 6/26/2015 race:
Handicapping goes by a system of tie-breakers, and was developed to give everyone the best chance of victory, not just the guys who win the most or score the most points (in fact, they have it the hardest). It has worked exceedingly well at this, as seen in our all-time points-and-wins charts. They are, in order of importance: (1) Wins in current year, (2) Average Points-Per-Feature Current Year, (3) All-Time Track Wins, (4) Weight. Also, no matter where a driver is handicapped to start, they can elect to start in the rear if they (or a majority of veteran drivers) feel they are not able to hold speed/groove.
