DRIVER PROFILE FOR WILDMAN FLIPPIN’ FRED COLLINS (2004-09; 2012) |
Fred Collins after his historic first feature win on 7/27/2009, after he came back from a wild flip in the first 30-lap feature of the night, shook it off, and then led the majority of the second 30-lapper in the Galletta’s #9! Five years of winless racing, wild accidents, and close calls with victory lane falling short finally paid off for Fred!
Name:
Fred Collins
Name:
Fearlessly Fast Flippin’ Freddie, Wild-man of the Woods Wrecks, Wild Werewolf, Bionic Hip Hipster.
Karts:
Galletta’s Go-Karts #9, #2, #7 or #1. He Bought Howard Seabrook’s Spongebob Squarepants machine in 2007, but oddly never raced it once anywhere, then had it stolen from him. Also bought one of Ed Maynes old karts, but, again, never raced it anywhere, and apparently a neighbor burned it and his ex-girlfriend took it from him and tried to sell it to us (which she asked too high of a price for). Poor Fred always has bad luck! Well, at least he won some races in 2009!
Years Racing Go-karts at Galletta’s:
2004-current (sporadic because he can’t afford parts and gas money). Fred retired after the 2009 season due to lack of funds. He would race more if he had more money, sponsors, and rides to the track.
Career highlights:
Won in 2009. Led a large portion of the 2005 Klassic. Finished well in 2005 and 2006 Klassics. Excellent attendance until he broke his hip in an off-season snowmobile accident. Always finishes well in the Point Standings. All-Time Career leader in flips.
2009
70 green-flag laps, 13 karts, and two feature winners were in store for Monday, August 31st, 2009 – a Twin-30s Night! Rapid Rollin’ Russell Hockey took the first feature of the night, followed by Furiously Fast Fred Collins taking the second.
Fred’s career highlight to date was on 7/27/2009 as seen in this YouTube video, where he flipped in the first 30-lap feature, yet came back and won the second 30-lap feature – his career first after five long years of racing!
July 27th, 2009, Oswego, N.Y. — This has been the closest season of racing so far in Galletta’s Backyard Speedway history. We have 9 different winners in 10 features so far this season at Galletta’s, with the racing bumper-to-bumper throughout, and the points race is closer than ever before this far into a season. And with 15-kart event in store, the first 30-lap feature saw Nick Dann emerge as the winner of the first 30-lapper in the Galletta’s #0. It also saw Fred Collins flip. The 2nd 30-lap feature saw Fred come back from his flip and shake it off to take his first ever feature win in the Galletta’s #9! Five years of winless racing, wild accidents, and close calls of getting into victory lane falling short finally paid off for Fred!

2007
Did you know?:
That Fred broke his hip in a snowmobile accident before the 2007 season and has raced with a slow-healing broken hip. Has flipped and/or flown off of his kart countless times. Here’s one from 7/8/2007, where yours truly had to pull him off of the ground after he fell off of his kart .:
Then Fred had possibly the scariest accident ever in Galletta’s raceway history. Matt Stevens, Wes Stevens, and Kyle Reuter caught tires, and going 35-45 mph, Matt and Kyle, out of control, drove directly into Fred Collins, who parked in the middle of the track at the start of the race. Even though the wreck was horrific, video-watching dolts on YouTube constantly give it poor ratings because they mistake it for the Worst Wreck on YouTube. It isn’t. It was the worst wreck on Galletta’s Backyard Speedway caught on tape. Nice that I get wrath because of all the low IQ-ed people out there in YouTube land. Observe:
Visually, the worst wreck at Galletta’s. More here–>.

Still seeking his first win. Galletta’s All-Time Leader of most career races without a single win of any kind, heat or feature (before 2009).
2005
Fred joined Galletta’s Karting late in 2004, after the Klassic. A first, we thought he was a Werewolf, as he came to race with shaggy hair, crashing into the woods, then emerging from the brush howling at the sky during his races (and wrecks). A camera was accidentally left on in the kart garage and we never deleted it because… well… Fred is hysterical!
