Name:
Kevin Galletta
Bio:
Kevin Galletta – cousin to Galletta’s Karting Club founders Matt and Chris Stevens and brother to long-time driver Brian Galletta – is a consistent, hard-running karter and multi-time feature winner, racing periodically in the 1990s before Navy duty and family kept him from competing until around 2013. He now races every race that his work schedule and his many children permit him to, driving for his retired brother Brian’s #28 Platt-Num kart.

Career Regular Season Feature Wins
Aug 11, 2013 | 8/10 – 8/11/2013 – Justin Galletta, Chris Stevens & Kevin Galletta won the “Triple 30 Lappers for Tim Galletta” weekend +YouTube |
Kevin has won more races than this, but unfortunately due to simply bad timing with his attendance, some of them have been makeup and rookie/refresher makeup point races and not full-fledged regular point feature events.
2020
Kevin found it quite difficult to race the full season in 2020, especially due to the untimely passing of his beloved big brother, Brian Galletta. When he did run, he ran in his late brother’s honor in both Brian’s race jacket and former karts which are kept in his name.
In an odd twist of fate, with the three races Kevin completed in 2020, he pulled past his cousin Tim into the 7th place in the Galletta’s Speedway All-Time Points List (2000-2020). So who do you think is now right above him in 6th place All-Time? You guessed it… big bro Brian.

2019/9/29 – 24th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Go-Karting 200-Lap Klassic [+YouTube]
Due to circumstances revolving around his family time, Kevin did not race during the 2019 regular season at all… until the last and biggest race of the year! (And, honestly, if you only come to one all year, that’s the one to come to!) On Sunday, September 29th, 2019 – The 24th Annual Galletta’s Go-Kart Klassic 200 Lap 1-WD Championship of the Galaxy, Kevin Galletta qualified 6th in the – Galletta’s #43 (00:16.59 | 00:16.80), but dropped out before the race’s halfway point, meaning that while he is a threat to win any race that he finishes, he is yet to make it to the final lap of a Galletta’s Klassic 200!
Enjoy the race from two camera angles here.

8/26/2018 – 35-Lapper won by Kevin Galletta
Sunday, August 26th, 2018 – In our never-ending mystery that has been the last two seasons (either several 1st timer rookies show and no vets, a couple of vets show and no rookies, OR nobody at all), we had two vets show up and one rookie. Due to a late start (Chris and his wife got back from work and had to do a few things before they could join the race and record–one reason why we plan on switching to Saturdays after today). Brian Galletta got some nice shots, which we uploaded as well.
POINTS, VICTORY PICTURE AND EDITED VIDEOS (even in the face of business around work, kids, kids’ school, and seasonal events, not enough free time the past two weeks) ARE FOUND HERE!
2018/07/15 – Rookie & Makeup Points Race won by Kevin Galletta [+YouTube]
Sunday, July 15th, 2018 – Due to race video, points, and karts not getting done during the week, Matt and Chris sat out this event, making it a make-up points / rookie bonus race. (We usually don’t take victory pictures for makeup races, but maybe we should, since it makes nice cover photos for the website — here Kev poses with his fiance Kristina and three of his many children!) Steve Sixberry led the entire show until getting loose in turn 4 when he slid a bit too high, enabling returning veteran Kevin Galletta to execute a pass and take the win. This makes for the 1st time the #43 kart has won a feature since it was re-numbered from its original number–the former Brian Galletta #13! Race video and full race info here.

2017
8/5/2017 – Twin-30s won by Kevin Galletta & Matt Stevens!
Saturday, August 5th, 2017 – Kevin Galletta led every lap of the 1st 30-Lapper to take his 2nd feature win of 2017 and Matt Stevens won the 2nd to win the 1st of 2 “Welcome Back Tim!” races of 2017. Matt and Kev’s cousin Tim Galletta was a full time racer from 2009-2012 before a move south took him away from one of his favorite pastimes. Unfortunately, due to getting married and work, Kevin missed the entire rest of the ’17 season after this fun double-header, including missing the Klassic 200, his 1st missed since 2013. Full race coverage, including points and complete race videos are found here.
6/24/2017 – Kevin Galletta & Keith Raymond make it 4-Winners-for-4-Races this season! [+YouTube]
Saturday, June 24th, 2017 – We took another preemptive Saturday race (to avoid rain forecast on Sunday) and held another twin-feature night to get caught up for missing the 1st two weekends of our usual season (1st weekend in June through at least September). And lo-and-behold, the polar opposite of last year’s start has occurred–where Kelly Miller, Matt Stevens and Chris Stevens hogged all the wins in the 1st EIGHT features–we have four features and FOUR different winners! Kevin Galletta outlasted early leader Adam Lytle (who broke down while leading) to win the 1st one, and Keith Raymond outlasted Chris Stevens and Matt Stevens (each of whom ALSO broke down while leading), although Josh Arnold gave him a great run. (And Kevin had to take his kids home before the start of the 2nd feature, so he is represented here by his Force Ghost.) More details and FULL race video (including BOTH Tower camera AND Matt helmet camera in full HD) below:

8/14/2016 – Kevin Galletta Survives Another Episode of Night of a Thousand Cautions – GALLETTA ROCKFEST ’16! [+YouTube]
Sunday, August 1th, 2016, Week 10 – Every year, we have a week or two where the cautions just pile up. A spin here. A crash there. Oops, a flip. Broken chain. Blown Tire. Bent Axle. Just one of those nights, and after a dry summer and a downpour for most of the weekend, we expected a better track, but rocks saw that not to be. But Kevin Galletta braved the obstacles and actually survived two close calls in front of him (including a HARD flip to then-leader Mike Patak right in front of him) to take home his 2nd win of ’16. Top-3 Points leaders were not immune to the disasters, as all three of them got to 2nd and all three of them had mechanical failures, something that they have not had much of until tonight (but none of the trio could get around Kevin tonight). This makes for some VERY interesting points battles as the Klassic 200 creeps closer. Race page with points are up here, and the YouTube video is above and here. Higher-res victory picture here.
7/31/2016 – Kings of Harborfest are crowned: ‘King Kong’ Kevin Galletta & Partner Adam Lytle – Team ‘You-Don’t-Know-Where-You-Are’ Take the Twin-30s! [+YouTube]
Sunday, July 31st, 2016, Week 8 – Finally! It took eight weeks, but finally someone else was able to crack victory line besides Matt Stevens (3 wins), Chris Stevens (3 wins) and Kelly Miller (2 wins). Kevin Galletta ended a winless (and hell, FINISH-less) dry spell that lasted over a year with a victory in the 1st feature and a 2nd place in the 2nd. And Adam Lytle was the only one beating him to the stripe in feature #2. While Chris, Matt and Kelly enjoy winning and getting top-threes, it’s still good to see new faces in victory lane, but none of the three were even able to get near the front tonight. Everyone was strong and the points leaders just did not get it rolling. In fact, not just that, but Chris had a pretty nice little crash. See for yourself: The complete race video on YouTube video is here. The video is also available with full breakdown of the race and points on the race page here.

8/22/2015 – Kevin Galletta wins the Kristina McCann Invitational & Kart Swap Meet 25! [+YouTube]
SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – This weekend will be a double-header at Galletta’s! A special make-up/rookie/powderpuff makeup race was held on Saturday, which went to Kevin Galletta (in the Galletta Bros. #28). This race was originally scheduled a few weeks in advance for Kristina McCann and friends, but wound up also evolving into a race for any racers who needed a makeup race (including a few rookies learning the quickest line and the karts), which we usually hold BEFORE the regular races, but we got them out of the way a day early. Also a rarely-used for-sale kart was sold to a new rookie race team (their 2nd now), which makes two karts back on track for regular racing again. The racing continues Sunday for the regular points race will be held Sunday, August 23rd, 2015 at roughly 6 pm. Points and pics up now. Vids, too!

10/11/2014 – 19th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200 won by Matt Stevens; Kevin Galletta leads 2nd most laps in the 200! +YouTube
SATURDAY, October 11th, 2014, OSWEGO, NY – 200 laps. Only 6 cautions. No fuel refills. And 79 consecutive green flag laps to the finish. Matt Stevens again proved why he is the best karter in Oswego County for 19 years now. He not only prepared 23 on-site karts and made them all within 0.66 seconds of each other (we defy anybody on the planet to do that in any motorsport race anywhere at any time!), but he time trialed on the pole for the 19th running of the area’s largest, longest-running, and hardest to win kart race, took it easy for a bit and then dominated the 2nd half of clinched what he already led almost all season – the Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway Track championship. Can’t buy it. You have to earn it. There are only five drivers in the world that have won a Galletta’s Klassic, and only 2 drivers in the world that have won Galletta’s Track Championships (see above) and Matt has won more of them than everybody else combined. Sadly, the only downfall was the club has lost drivers. Kevin Galletta ran a masterful opening half of the race, leading the vast majority of the first 100 laps, but fatigue and work the next morning forced him out of the race’s completion.
6/21/2014 – Kevin Galletta & Matt Stevens win in the first Twin-Features Night of 2014! +YouTube
SATURDAY, JUNE 21st, 2014, OSWEGO, NY – The 1st twin-feature night of the young season went down on Saturday June 21st, and it was pole-sitter Kevin Galletta who led all 35 laps of the 1st feature in his most impressive performance of his career thus far. In the 2nd feature, Matt Stevens dispatched a few karts on the drop of the green and beat his brother Chris to the lead to win the time-shortened 25-lap feature of the night. Eric Woolworth – points leader and winner of the 1st two features of the season – had a few wild rides and finally had his win streak snapped. More details are up now.

10/13/2013 – The 18th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200!
Kevin before the 18th annual running of the Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200.
SATURDAY,OCTOBER 12th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – OUTTA’ NOWHERE! The 5th member of the Gallettta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic Championship fraternity is crowned! The longest-running Oswego Karting championship ran it’s 18th annual marathon event, which decides both the point standings (best overall karter in the area), and also the best Iron-Man karter in the area. Eleven drivers entered but only three led all night (11 drivers?! That leaves several karts on site – including the timed fastest kart of the fleet – Galletta’s #5 – unused?! For shame!!! And this is supposed to be a racing town?!) The three you see, Kelly Miller, Matt Stevens, and Chris Stevens had a duel of the ages, as they essentially battled back and forth for the lead for all 200 laps, with occasional challenges by Brian Galletta and Eric Woolworth. All three had the lead and lost it in breathtaking manners (Kelly led early and a slow leaking tired forced him to pit after getting passed, Matt hounded Chris and Kelly, took the lead, then slipped up and Chris got him back, and Chris led several laps late, got pinned and passed by both Kelly and Matt behind lapped traffic, and suffered a a bent sprocket that took him out of the top 2)! But the one who had it last – Kelly Miller, gets the win. He becomes only the 5th driver – Matt Stevens (won 10), Chris Stevens (won 5), Wes Stevens (won 1), Kyle Reuter (won 1) – in the Klassic’s 18 year history to win the big one , all while only picking up his 2nd career win at Galletta’s. Although many know him from both racing Stocks and Supermodifieds on the big track downtown, Kelly showed he knows how to drive more than just the big machines! And in a kart THAT SAT UNUSED waiting for a driver ABOUT 97% OF THE YEAR. Congrats to Kelly, congrats and thank you to all who showed, and to all who could’ve came out and didn’t? On your knees, dogs. READ MORE HERE!
8/10 – 8/11/2013 – Justin Galletta, Chris Stevens & Kevin Galletta won the “Triple 30 Lappers for Tim Galletta” weekend
SATURDAY-SUNDAY, AUGUST 10th-11th, 2013, OSWEGO, NY – Tim Galletta – cousin to founders Matt and Chris Stevens and also another grandson of the Late Galletta’s Greenhouse founder, John J. Galletta – raced in the club for the better part of four seasons (2009-2012), including missing only 1 race in a 3 year span. His move down south for work took him out of weekly competition, in fact, for a full year! Tim was back for a specially scheduled Saturday, August 10th, 2013 show, his only race of the year thus far (hopefully he can work in time for the 2013 Klassic 200). We had twin 30s on Saturday and then, we also ran a 3rd feature, a slightly longer 35-lapper, on our regularly scheduled Sunday! The races did not disappoint. Justin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #7) won the 1st, Chris Stevens (Chrusher.com/Galletta’s Greenhouse/R&C Sushi LLC #8) won the 2nd, and a career first winner for Kevin Galletta (Galletta’s Greenhouse #9) kart in the 3rd feature on Sunday. More on the race page here!

Brian Galletta – the only competitor who has had any substantial prior experience – drew the pole for the FIRST EVER ALL-GALLETTA race – which featured all cousins of Galletta’s Karting founders Chris and Matt Stevens, and also all grandsons (and one great-grandson) of Galletta’s Greenhouse founder John J. Galletta. The draw made it very easy for him to use his knowledge of the karts and track (including a feature win, some heat wins, time-trialing 2nd fastest and and leading a large chunk of the 2003 Klassic) and dominate all 30 laps unchallenged for the win, his 2nd career feature win at Galletta’s.
