As of completion of 6/7/2015 – 9/26/2015’s race events (including the 20th Annual 200-Lap Oswego Overall Karting Championship) featuring 41 drivers racing in 20 features with 8 different winners (not even counting 2 all-rookie races with even more!) in the 20th Annual World Championship of Clockwise Gas Stock Flathead Karting!
…tallied after the:
9/26/2015 – The 20th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic Championship 200!
Saturday, September 26th, 2015 was the date for our 20th Annual Klassic 200. The race decides both the Track Championship and the Klassic 200 Champion in one fell swoop, as the race counts as the biggest AND the final points race of the season (although after Klassic, we may still have Fall Series races, which still count in the All-Time Points). All past veterans as well as future veterans are – as always – invited to battle it out for the longest-running (and we say premiere) Karting Title in Oswego NY for two decades. As a contest of driver talent, endurance, strategy, patience, and athleticism, it empirically decides the best kart drivers of Oswego, period. There is no valid counter argument. If you want to be discussed as the best, you compete here.
201 laps! The first 50 or so were plagued with countless rookie mishaps that slowed the event down considerably. In fact, in one rookie mistake alone, one 1st-time driver wound up even taking out early leader Kyle Reuter and then-2nd place Brian Galletta!
But once the rookies settled down (or were eliminated by demolishing their karts) the entire race was a showcase of elite driving talent that cannot be questioned. Kyle Reuter and Chris Stevens shared the lead back and forth and only lapped traffic and low fuel changed things. Matt Stevens again showed why he is a master of kart building and pure racing ability with his near win, almost taking it all on the last lap until a bent sprocket ended his shot. And gas mileage was key – everyone who made it to lap 150 refueled… except Chris Stevens, who attempted to win it all on one standard tank of gas! And on lap 199, that gas was used up with Kyle Reuter and Matt Stevens side-by-side trying to take the lead! And believe me, at that point, it wasn’t even done yet!
It was a DOOZY in EVERY way! Race descriptions, pictures, the concluded points and race videos to one of the greatest races in Galletta’s history – making it one of the greatest kart races in the history of Oswego by default are all here! But for now… we are all… BEAT.
But wait! 2015 ain’t done yet! On October 10th, 2015, David Hartpence won an All-Rookie Tryout Fall bonus race in the former Larry Phillips #04/Kenny Lindsley #14/Eric Woolworth #88/Billy Ruggio #02b/Eric Woolworth #88/Keith Raymond #88, which David Hall has purchased for the 2016 season! Er, wait, wasn’t it Lee Gleason? Then, on November 5th, 2015, a second all-rookie non-points show was won by rookie Josh Arnold, the new owner of the former Dick Dann #86/Tim Galletta #54/Dave Spanfelner #54/Brian Galletta #54 machine, which he purchased and repainted and re-numbered #93, ready for the 2016 season!
Now, here is reverse chronological order rundown of the entire 2015 season. And complete HD videos free to watch on each and every one! Enjoy:
9/11/2015 – Rookie Tony Cimilluca wins 15-kart/45-lap Feature in only his 2nd race!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – FIFTEEN karts took the track on the 9/11 Anniversary race, and a rookie in his second ever race took the checker! Tony Cimilluca started 4th, took the lead early on passing three other rookies and held off challenges from veterans Matt Stevens, Adam Lytle and Chris Stevens (Multi-time winners and top-3 in points) for an improbable feature win! Considering the fact that a great many drivers race for a year (or even years) before they are able to find that first checkered flag, and only a select few have won a feature in only their 2nd weekend at the track, impressive to say the least! More details here and videos forthcoming, so come back soon!
Next weekend is a bye week and Saturday, September 26th at noon is our 20th Annual Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200! More details forthcoming. Again… sorry, work, baby and last weekend’s holiday festivities have put me behind on the website, but I’ll get back on the ball this week! – Chris
9/4/2015 – Kyle Reuter leads all 50-Laps in 11-Kart Labor Day Triumph!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – Five newbie 1st-timer rookies joined us this weekend to make an 11-kart Labor Day Weekend feature event. And Kyle Reuter’s return last weekend handicapped him on the pole this one, and Reuter led all 50-laps in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #5 to win a feature in it two years in a row, getting pumped for Klassic fever coming later this month. Pics, descriptions & points are here and videos should be soon to follow! Come back soon!
8/28/2015 – Adam “AJ” Lytle leads green to checker in a Full-Moon, 14-Kart, 40-Lap event!
FRIDAY, AUGUST 29th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – Eight newbie 1st-timer rookies showed up (although some had prior racing experience), and with four 2015 regulars and a returning veteran (former Klassic 200 and multi-time flatty and 1/4 midget champ Kyle Reuter), FOURTEEN karts started the 40-lap feature! The biggest feature we’ve had in a handful of years, and the most in recent memory to say the least (one may have to go back to 2007 or 2008 to find a field that big)! As usual with many 1st-time racers on the track at once AND a full-moon, many cautions slowed the evening down considerably. But after things settled down, the rookies proved that they could race (at least between the cautions). But polesitter Adam Lytle picked up another full moon race, which he clearly specializes in, as all but one or two of his wins have come on such evenings! Points, pics, and more up. Vid soon!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23rd, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – Melissa Stevens (w/ daughter Lilybeth) dusted off her racing clothes and led all 35 laps of the 1st feature for her first feature win since 2012! In the 2nd 30-lap feature, it looked like Kevin Galletta was going to score his 1st win since 2014 when his kill switch shorted out and he stalled while leading. Keith Raymond inherited the lead and took his 3rd career feature win (all this year thus far). Kevin knighted him in some sort of ceremony that we have still not yet fully deciphered. Fields have been larger, with three rookies joining the fun, now and with (two and possibly a third) purchasing seldom-used karts, the stretch run to the Klassic 200 looks like it will be a doozy! Pictures, points & descriptions up now and race video up soon.
8/22/2015 – Kevin Galletta wins the Kristina McCann Invitational & Kart Swap Meet 25!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – This weekend will be a double-header at Galletta’s! A special make-up/rookie/powderpuff makeup race was held on Saturday, which went to Kevin Galletta (in the Galletta Bros. #28). This race was originally scheduled a few weeks in advance for Kristina McCann and friends, but wound up also evolving into a race for any racers who needed a makeup race (including a few rookies learning the quickest line and the karts), which we usually hold BEFORE the regular races, but we got them out of the way a day early. Also a rarely-used for-sale kart was sold to a new rookie race team (their 2nd now), which makes two karts back on track for regular racing again. The racing continues Sunday for the regular points race will be held Sunday, August 23rd, 2015 at roughly 6pm. Points and pics up now. Vid in the future!
8/16/2015 – Adam “AJ” Lytle scores an odd 50 49 lap victory, per what he requested!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – With the unfortunate cancellation of a scheduled memorial race due to not enough drivers Friday, racing was rescheduled to Sunday. Adam Lytle used his rebuilt steering well, as he successfully guarded the pole position for 50 laps, fighting off pass attempts by Keith Raymond, Matt Stevens and Chris Stevens (which just happened to be the last three feature winners!). In the past, Lytle jokingly requested an oddball numbered feature race, and he somewhat got it, as a rookie spun off the tack on the 2nd to last lap, the tower signalled caution while the starter tower did not, and despite running 50 under green, he technically got his oddball 49-lap number and his 4th career feature win (We’re still counting 50 though)! Results, pics, points & YouTube video soon!
8/7/2015 – Matt and Chris Stevens steal each others wins at Masters of Oswego Karting Twin-Feature Night!
FRIDAY, AUGUST 7th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – There were some crazy accidents this week at Galletta’s (one would almost think there was a full moon out, but there wasn’t). Early leaders spun and collected others and put point leaders Chris and Matt up front again. Usually whomever gets to the lead first between the bros wins. But there was some shenanigans that had the bros pretty competitively mad at each other (happens once or twice a year since they’re always so close in points). Chris had the lead in the 1st and Matt used lapped traffic getting sideways to trap Chris for the win, much to Chris’ displeasure, as that passing flag apparently simply does not exist anymore. Chris tried to return the favor to Matt in the 2nd feature, but this time the traffic spun out and saved Matt from getting passed. Chris then rode Matt’s bumper, one lap pushing him into loose dirt, enabling Chris to sneak by his little bro to win the 2nd feature, much to the anger of Matt. But in reality, every other karter should be getting mad because Chris and Matt keep hogging the wins in Oswego’s oldest and longest running karting division! But Matt has succeeded again with creating a new setup on the #9 to help heavyweight drivers to compete with lighter ones (he weighed himself own over 40 lbs. to test the kart, and had plenty of power to spare, proved in the win and near sweep!). Results, pics, and points, & YouTube video are up!
7/31/2015 – Keith Raymond SWEEPS to win his 1st… AND 2nd Career Feature wins at the 20th Annual 10,000-to-win Twin-25’s!
FRIDAY, JULY 31st, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – For twenty years, we have held our 10,000-to-win race the same week as the big track that our races were inspired by (except, unfortunately, the only thing we have in that abundance to put up for a prize is… track rocks. So… have at ’em!). And with it coinciding with a full moon, it was sure to be interesting. In fact, we nearly postponed, but at the last possible moment, we had 7 drivers and put on the show (later than usual, but better late than never). Since last season, 2nd year racer Keith Raymond has been up front and leading many a feature event only to have chains, sprockets and even a motor give out when it looked like he had the race covered. He finally broke through in spades… he swept both of our features – 1st by dominating every lap from the pole position in the 1st race, then coming from mid-pack and evading a pileup to take the lead and not look back for his 1st and 2nd career feature wins in one night! And the picture above asks… was Keith cloned? The ghost of the original kart owner, Larry Phillips, would be proud. Wait… Larry’s not a ghost! But he SEEMS like one! Hmmm… wait.. what… the…. More details, pictures, and a YouTube video are all up!
7/26/2015 – 20th Annual HarborFAST Championship won by Chris Stevens!
SUNDAY, JULY 26th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – For twenty of the event’s twenty-eight years, the undisputed champion of Oswego’s Harborfest has been decided at Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Speedway – usually the Sunday night when Harborfest dies a slow death and the city’s streets become drivable again. Past winners of Oswego’s crown jewel of Harborfest have included illustrious names such as Kyle Reuter, Melissa Stevens, Kelly Miller, Fred Collins & Nick Dann, Matt Stevens and Wes “Ogre” Stevens. But Chris Stevens became a multi-time winner of the event in 2015, sneaking by his brother Matt and inheriting the lead from Kevin Galletta when mechanical issues forced the #28 to the pits. Only 25 laps to make sure Harborfest ’15 is hurried along and as dead as a doornail. Chris takes his 4th feature (in 3 different karts) of 2015, making up for ’14 where he only won the final regular season race before the ’14 Klassic 200! When asked, Chris said, “Experience plays a big role in these races, but many times, a little luck is the difference. Taking away when Matt got me twice due to no passing flags, I’ve just been a lot luckier this year than last. And no matter who wins, Matt’s the head mechanic of all the karts anyways, so he basically wins every race no matter the driver.” Ogie Stevens refused to participate and hid the Championship belt again. Damn him. Points, pics, and videos are all here.
7/19/2015 – Matt Stevens’ Mastery of the Low Groove Secures 139th career feature win!
SUNDAY, JULY 19th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – With rain on Friday and not enough drivers on Saturday, we postponed the feature to a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon. Keith Raymond and Brian Galletta had eyes on the prize leading good chunks of the 50-lap feature, but both broke down while leading. Matt Stevens took the lead from there and – as the high groove proved problematic for the 2nd weekend in a row – he used his mastery of the low groove in turn one to secure his 139th Oswego Karting Feature Win (counting feature wins at Galletta’s and Oswego Kartway combined since 2005 and counting 1990s Klassic wins). All while in his trusty old Galletta’s Greenhouse #3, which he has won a majority of those features in. While a YouTube video should be forthcoming, more details (results, points, pics and rundowns) are up… here.
7/10/2015 – Adam Lytle survives War of Attrition 40-Lapper for his 4th career feature win!
FRIDAY, JULY 10th, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – George Sweeting, Keith Raymond, Kevin Galletta, Chris Stevens and Matt Stevens all either had 1st and/or 2nd place and all had mechanical problems or an unfortunate caution to put them in the rear. In fact EVERY DRIVER who raced in the 40-lapper was involved in at least a minor mishap. But it was Adam Lytle who impressively wins his 4th career feature (though he noted after the race that it may have been his 1st where a full moon was not out)! However, it certainly felt like it was, as it was one of those nights where crazy things happened – track rutted, karts flipping, chains popping, sprockets bending, drivers breaking or crashing while leading – a race takes longer to complete than other ones… just one of those nights that happens once or twice a season. But Lytle is proving he has a knack of winning these tough mudder, grind-it-out, survivor wins karting races, as he takes another one, and has steadily become one of the top threats to win at the track week in and week out! Points, pics are up here and & video possibly up later.
7/3/2015 – Chris Stevens runs to Independence Day ’15 45-Lap Triumph.
FRIDAY, JULY 3rd, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – Originally scheduled for Sunday, July 5th, 2015, in order to skip the fireworks and Independence Day festivities and working around our regular driver schedules, we again moved race day to Friday, July 3rd, 2015. Chris Stevens made amends on his highly frustrating week, as in last weekend’s Twin-35’s where he lost BOTH features in traffic to his brother and all week long he battled a stomach bug. This week, he successfully navigated traffic en route to an impressive feature win to make it the 2nd time he won a feature with the runs. Too much information? In a statistical anomaly, at least three times this has been known to happen – in fact 3/3! Maybe we need to get stomach bugs before races more often? Keith Raymond led early until the motor stalled, again proving that 1st feature victory elusive! NOTE: We will have a unique open-ended conclusion to this race, however. If you missed at least one race this season at Galletta’s, you are welcome to enter our addendum race that will be held on either Saturday or (more likely) Sunday. This isn’t for anybody who has raced in every race thus far, it is a make-up race for anybody who has missed one or all of the races thus far. If nobody comes forward, we will not have one. Contact us for details. Points & pics up now and video up soon.
6/26/2015 – Matt Stevens Steals BOTH Twin-35s from bro Chris thanks to Ogre’s new NO Passing Flag Rule! (PLUS… Lytle ON FIRE!!!)
FRIDAY, JUNE 26TH, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – Originally scheduled for Sunday, July 28th, 2015, seeing another rainy weekend looming on the horizon in the Oswego/Central NY forecast (we simply cannot remember a cooler and rainier June in our lives!), all active club drivers elected to instead hold yet another preemptive Friday Night race. Friday, June 26th, 2015 at 7pm it went down. Keith Raymond and George Sweeting had tremendous drives and held early advantages until Chris Stevens was able to squeeze by for the lead in both features. But then, in BOTH features, head flagger Wesley James “TrOgre” Stevens didn’t throw the passing flag, and BOTH TIMES, Matt Stevens snuck by for two wins to pad his all-time feature win lead of all Oswego Karters. By two. Again. If there were spectators around, people would be accusing the track official of skulduggery in helping Matt! But in reality, we need FLAGGERS and CAMERA OPERATORS as bad as we need drivers, as Wes cannot count laps and operate flags/caution lights. Races may have to come to a halt unless we have more help on said duties. Volunteers and racers… step forward! PLUS… a 3-kart pileup that resulted in Adam Lytle flipping and his motor erupting INTO FLAMES! Pix, Points & Vids will be up here.
6/19/2015 – Twin-35’s swept by R&C Sushi Bar Crew – Eric Woolworth & Chris Stevens!
FRIDAY, JUNE 19TH, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – After the Sunday, June 14th, 2015 race was rained out (due to a track that didn’t dry all week and a few showers showing up before all the drivers arrived), and Sunday, June 21st, 2015 looking to have more rain, we had an emergency pre-emptive strike race. And due to missing last weekend, it was scheduled to be a twin-feature event. And some excellent racing on a nice track was in store! The 1st race had Keith Raymond leading strong in his Good Guys Barbershop #88… until disappointingly a motor let loose. Eric Woolworth then took the lead and held off Matt Stevens, Adam Lytle and Chris Stevens for the win. Then, in the 2nd feature, Keith again led this time in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #6 and looked again like he was going to take the checker. But the 1st win for Keith is proving extremely elusive, as he got sideways fending off Matt and Chris Stevens, and then opened up the track for Chris Stevens to take off and hide in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #0 for the win. This means that 2/3rds of the Oswego, NY Price Chopper R&C Sushi Bar Chef crew swept the features! (If only Rungnapha ‘Aou’ Stevens raced too! 😉 ) Updated points, pictures are up and a YouTube video will be coming soon, so check back daily!
6/7/2015 – 20th Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Season Season Opener won by Chris Stevens!
SUNDAY, JUNE 7TH, 2015, OSWEGO, NY – <Our 20th Season of Points Racing at Galletta’s Greenhouse Backyard Karting Speedway has arrived! An 8-lap rookie race at 7pm was followed immediately by a 50-lap feature with 11-drivers (the largest single karting class in the area), which saw a bit of a surprising beginning. Chris Stevens got a great start when the green flag dropped and went from 5th to 1st and led all fifty laps en route to his 2nd opening night win in three years. The Galletta’s Greenhouse / Chrusher.com / R&C Sushi Bar LLC #8 looked fast all night, as head mechanic Matt Stevens scoring 2nd in the Galletta’s Greenhouse #33 noted. Driver Chris Stevens said, “The #8 must’ve been itching for a race all winter, as my brother Matt had it set up nice for the Klassic 200 when the rear axle broke on lap 0. I ran the #0 into 2nd that day, and it was very strong, but man, this #8 made me think of what it could’ve done. Would’ve been fun to drive it and see! Now I finally get to pose in victory lane for the first time with my baby Faith Marie.” Raced started at 7:00 pm and concluded at 8:20 pm. 11 drivers filled 23 on-site karts. Thank you all who came and look forward to seeing you all back and more every week! Check out the updated race page (and for the first time in four years… a full-race YouTube video is premiered!).

Welcome to the Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Club & Backyard Speedway’s website!
Founded in the early 1990s, Galletta’s Karting Club & Backyard Speedway was created to race go-karts as competitively as we can for as purposefully affordable as we can (via rules), using karts that are hybrid – something between a prefabricated racing kart and a yard kart that can race fast and safe on both pay tracks and backyard tracks alike, all the while having drivers that are highly talented and experienced racers. You may think you are good on pay tracks, but in reality, you didn’t prove much unless you raced and competed for wins at Galletta’s! The original, longest-running, and largest karting class in the area, we are also the easiest to join – we often have several unused, fast, feature-winning, arrive-and-drive karts to join into the races immediately, and if you like it, build or buy your own for a few hundred dollars to join and compete instead of a few thousand like most classes take to join and compete. And, the talent levels of the more experienced drivers at Galletta’s is far superior to the pay tracks – they’ve been racing more than a decade before the local pay tracks were built. Read on to see our twenty year history of weekly points racing (with videos and complete rundowns of each season since 1995 – and race from 2005) every June through October in Oswego, NY! Enjoy!
NOTE: THE LARGEST AND MOST HIGHLY EXPERIENCED KARTING CLASS IN OSWEGO, NY – BAR NONE, PERIOD! No other class in the area has more than 25 competitors, and most have 6-15 (most tracks count total karts, but don’t mention that their karts per class is 1-10, most averaging 5-8). Most pay tracks are roughly half our size. Most tracks have 5-10 minute races topping out at 10-35 laps (which would equal 5-15 laps on ours). Most tracks have karts that cost a few grand to even field let alone really be competitive in. Ours, just a few hundred once and affordable maintenance & gas money thereafter. All the karts in our class are set to COMPETE, NO MATTER YOUR WEIGHT! 130lbs.? 250lbs.? Yep, we can set up a kart for you. We can help you build, or ride one of our feature-winning Galletta’s Team Karts Race with us, you get the most experience and race against the empirically proven most experienced karting drivers in the area. Not to mention, we don’t race on the same day and you can race on all area tracks if you were up for it. And the best part? For more than HALF the price of any class on any pay track. What are you waiting for? You either have it or you don’t. If you don’t show, we both know what that answer is, don’t we? Lolz! Let’s go!
