These are nominal donations to kart & track operator Matt Stevens for gas / parts / electricity / track watering. He makes $0.00 on kart rentals. (Try upkeep on 20 karts & track yourself if you think otherwise and get back to us.) All drivers must sign a waiver.
That's right! Every single season since 1995, every "Klassic" since 2002, and very single points race and YouTube video we have since 2005 to now are ALL available to view for free right here!
[NOTE: Video to this race is currently missing in our archives. As soon as it is found, it will be uploaded, as it the only regular season race at Galletta’s since mid-2005 that we do not have uploaded to the site! My OCD is kicking in that it isn’t here! Arrgh! -Chris]
Jason “The Hammer” Mills was the fastest kart on the track, and dominated the entire race… er… ALMOST. But then a long came that crafty, pesky, persistent lil’ Matt!
The opening race saw Jason Mills dominate the majority of the feature event in the rental Galletta’s #0, scoring either 1st or 2nd place for all but the first five laps. However, continuing tradition of our club, Matt Stevens still managed to score the win even when he didn’t even seem the quickest on track!
Jason — who was clearly faster at race end and all over the #3’s back bumper — still scored more “lap led” points and holds a slim lead in the points standings. The only logical explanation for Matt winning was that Jason appeared to be attempting to help out his friend and “teammate” Ed Maynes in his #43, but his apparent plan backfired when Ed, leading at the time, almost wrecked himself and lost three positions.
The top four positions battled back and forth all night, and any of them could have won it minus a mistake or two each. However, it was Matt who again needled out a close victory, as he so often has in his Galletta’s #3.
Other notes:
Barrelin’ Brian Bortel flipped again, on top of Chris “Chrusher Comix” Stevens who still managed to recover for fourth. Chris wound up hurting his lower back ribs/kidney area in the accident when Bortel plowed both Chris AND his dad Wes Stevens off the track (edit: an injury that plagued Chris with for a few years afterwards).
Also, a controversy ensued over the counted laps, as the race was shortened from 50 laps to 40 laps due to a wet track, a late start time, and school kids needing to get to bed.
Ed Maynes somehow got confused during the concluding moments of the race. Ed raised his hand on lap 39 and let off the gas and claimed to believe it to be the checker, but was then passed by Chris and Wes Stevens on the final lap who saw the white flag, not the checkered. He was allowed — via the courtesy of Chris and Wes — to be scored in his probable third place position, despite the fact that he technically finished fifth on the track. We don’t usually make this exception to the rule, but Ed is a trusted member of our race club and was pretty irked about what happened, so to keep him happy, we obliged. NOTE: This is the final warning to all the drivers that the race ends when you see the checker then the yellow and not before. (Edit: But it happened again later in the year, and AGAIN we made an exception to not appear biased. Sigh….)
Next week, race will start in daylight, guaranteed. [And we did.]

DVD is available for $5 [Missing…].
1 angle (Tower). This was supposed to have additional footage from Oswego Speedway, but Team Seabrook (AKA Howard and his wife) never got me the footage at our class at Oswego Speedway’s dirt races that they promised me. This then led to a weird “missing” video to this race, and no DVD (not uploaded video has been found since. If it ever does, this will be rectified. Judging what happened later this year with people from the Seabrook Racing family spreading discord by misconstruing content and trashing our website’s coverage later this season, we doubt the video to Oswego will ever will be given to us to upload (and judging the way the family has acted, it was probably zoomed in on Howie the entire race and can’t see anything else).
2006 Volumes #1 & 2 DVD set:
Contains the June 11th, 2006, June 18th, 2006 and June 25th, 2006 races at Galletta’s. Two discs contains highlights from 2006 and on. Two camera angles of each race. Price $5 each disc.
Galletta's Backyard Go-Kart Speedway is a free-to-race-on and free-to-watch 0.133887 mile dirt oval with 20-degree banked turns . It is located behind Galletta's Greenhouse in Oswego, NY, and can be seen from outer space! The single-wheel-drive gasoline-fueled flathead motor karts take the track between 15-17 seconds per lap which averages over 30 mph (approximately 45-50 mph top speed in the straights). Our speeds are comparable to alcohol/methanol-fueled karts that cost 8 times as much because we use mostly homemade or rebuilt go-karts and gas on a large track; leading to more karts, more competition, and more fun. Our class is usually the largest and most competitive in the area. Thanks to Google Earth for this Spring 2006 photo. Our karting club's home track is located in back of:
